Riddles & Brain Teasers

Brain Teasers and Riddles is a brain-stimulating activity that is a bit more of a challenge than regular Trivia. These are logic puzzles, where many times the an-swer is “in the clue” but not the obvious answer.

Fact or Fiction

Think you can tell the difference between fact and fiction? What you think you know and the truth may surprise you!

Discussion Group

Join this monthly group where we will have a theme for discussion each session chosen from participant suggestions. Share ideas and learn new perspectives from each other.

Around the World

Come learn about different Countries from around the world. Everything from their languages, cultures, population, currency, types of foods and much more!

Biographies

Each month, take a peak into the life and legacy of some very interesting people.

Service Canada

Stephane Carignan, a Citizen Services Specialist with Service Canada will be giving a 3 part presentation

Thursday July 9 - Canadian Pension Plan

The Service Canada presentation provide clients with infor-mation on the eligibility criteria’s for the Canada Pension Plan as well as the calculation to determine benefits. We also cover different provision that could allow you to increase your bene-fits at retirement age such as the child-rearing provision. We finalize with a Q & A and contact information for the Canada pension plan directly.

Thursday July 16 - Canadian Pension Plan Disability

The Service Canada presentation provide clients with infor-mation on the eligibility criteria’s for the Canada Pension Plan disability as well as the calculation to determine benefits. We will discuss the required documents and we also cover different provisions that can assist clients returning to the workforce if their situation changes.

Thursday July 23 - Old Age Security

The Service Canada presentation provide clients with infor-mation on the eligibility criteria’s for old age security as well as the calculation to determine benefits. We also provide infor-mation on the programs linked to old age security such as the allowance and the guaranteed income supplement.

Join us for a fun home workout! Christine will guide us through workouts over the phone using commonly found objects from around your home. This session will be a great way to encour-age physical activities in your day. Christine works for Ottawa Health for the program “Better Strength, better balance” at the Vanier Richelieu Centre. She has been teaching BSBB for 7 years. Christine is a Specialized fitness instructor who specializ-es in older adults’ fitness. In her program classes, she deals with a lot of chronic diseases and older adults who have never done much physical activities so with her program she gets people of all levels moving. Come join us and learn more!

Laughter Yoga Friday July 24th & August 28th

Kathryn Kimmins is a leading authori-ty on the benefits of Laughter Yoga and is known for her energetic, enter-taining and content-rich programs. She has taken her passion for this unique craft to businesses and organi-zations, individuals and groups throughout Ontario.

As a Certified Laughter Yoga teacher, and Laughter Ambassador of Canada, Kathryn understands how laughter can be used to heal the body, mind and spirit connection. She helps people to tap into their innate & infinite child-like spirit to increase their happiness potential through her laughter yoga programs

Medications and prescriptions can be confusing, espe-cially if they are new. Join Angel, a Pharmacist at Bru-yère, to learn about how to manage them. You’ll learn about some common medication types, how to under-stand your prescriptions and labels, and where to go for reliable information. Guest speaker: Angel Deng.

Common supplements and their evidence

Have you ever glanced over the overwhelming supple-ments section at your local pharmacy or grocery store and wondered which ones you should or should-n’t be taking? Or seen ads on TV or newspapers claim-ing their wonders? Join Angel, a Pharmacist at Bru-yère, to review some of those supplements. You’ll learn about 10 common supplements and their evi-dence to help make informed choices.

Join Emily Fitzgerald, your In-Store Registered Dietitian, to learn tips and tricks on what foods to include in your diet and how to use them!

One sky, many worlds Tuesday July 14th

Ingenium is developing an International exhibition on Indigenous Astronomy. We are also planning an Indig-enous-led international symposium on this topic. As part of the research and planning for both, I have had the great fortune to visit the Arctic, Manitoba, Minne-sota, Nova Scotia and Hawaii. Please join me, David Pantalony on this two-part presentation that will describe this project and these research trips.

Fraud Prevention Monday July 20th

Christine Allum from Ontario Securities Commission will be speaking about fraud prevention and covers common frauds and scams including COVID-19 related frauds, warning signs of fraud and who to contact.

Affordability Fund Tuesday July 7th

The Affordability Fund is here to help!

If you own or rent your home, pay a hydro bill, and do not qualify for low-income programs, you are eligible. You could qualify for FREE Energy Star power bars, lightbulbs, appliances, insulation, or heat pump! Join this session and learn what you will need to apply. This presentation is offered by Lobna Aggour, an Outreach Coordinator for the Affordability Fund Trust.
