The Thorvaldson Care Centre is the province’s only facility to provide “Interme-diate Care” to its residents. Intermediate personal care essentially translates to pro-viding care to those who are no longer able to handle

Foot Care for Seniors When we think about licensed practical nurses (LPNs) we generally envision them working in a healthcare setting, not as self-em-ployed nurses. In 2001, Lori Wuerch recognized that the current health care system was not able to meet some of the basic personal activities of daily living for the elderly so she ventured out on her own by launching “Foot Care for Seniors”. After graduation in 1995 from the Practical Nursing program at ACC, Wuerch says that her opportu-nities increased exponentially. “I feel that the leadership skills I obtained from the Practical Nursing program will always be a major contributor in my career success. The confidence I gained enabled me to try different experiences such as teaching, and participating on a number of com-mittees”. Relocating to Winnipeg provided an opportunity to establish
her own business, “Foot Care for Seniors, Inc.” The mobile service provides individuals with quality nursing foot care when they have lost the ability to help themselves, either permanently or temporarily. Service is delivered in the privacy and comfort of the client’s own home, hospital or care facility. This eliminates the need for family members and/or caregiv-ers to make complicated and often stressful arrangements to transport the client to obtain this service. In 2007, Wuerch won the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Home Enterprise cat-egory from Women Business Own-ers of Manitoba. Her business has expanded and now employs a staff of ten in Winnipeg. Wuerch also is proud to be a member of the Mani-toba & Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses.

Water Doctor Plumbing Services is a family owned and op-erated company, offering its services to residential, commer-cial and industrial clients. They are a full service plumbing company but specialize in water purification systems. The company is based in Ste.Anne, Manitoba and has recently opened a new office in Winnipeg to accommodate the high demand for their services across a wider range of Manitoba and NW Ontario.
The company has both mechanical drain rooter equipment for moving stubborn obstacles like tree roots, but also car-ries high pressure hot water and steam jetting equipment for blocked or frozen sewer lines.
Water Doctor Plumbing Services is available 24/7 and al-ways has at least one staff member on call. They carry a lot of inventory which is useful for those late night or holiday weekend call outs.
