The Consul General of China - His Excellency Mr. Ma Zhanwu invited Dr Munmun Nath to discuss student and teacher exchange programmes and collaboration between schools in China and CIS.
He also met the school football team and witnessed a friendly football match and encouraged the team with his kind words. He also gifted the team twenty soccer balls.

Teacher Chef Competition is an
annual event at CIS, conducted by
IIHM. This year the preliminary
rounds took place on 3rd September,
2018.
The participants were Ms. Sudha
Tulshan, Ms. Ranjana Chakraborty,
Ms. Rina Mitra, Ms. Amrita Nandy,
Ms. Soni Jha, Ms. Debasruti Saha
and Ms. Piali Ray.
The IB and AS students participated in the preliminary round of the
5th International Young Chef Olympiad
Svarika Sonthalia, Dwaipayan Chakroborty, Saloni Todi, Nafis Adnan, Aditi Chatterjee, Mehul Bhargawa, Ishan Chaterjee of IBDP Year 1 and Firdous Hossain, Abhimanyu Sharma of AS Level participated in the competition. They prepared a dish from home and presented it for tasting to the judges from IIHM.

On Thursday, 30th August , Mrs. Sharmila
Mukerjee, Section – Head, Middle Section
and Mr. Samitava Mukherjee, IBDP
Coordinator, attended a workshop – ‘Beyond
the Classroom’ , organized by Trailblazers in
Kolkata.
The workshop aimed at creating a revolution
in pedagogies, helping teachers incorporate a
more fun, engaging and interdisciplinary
approach to learning using outdoor training
modules.
The day-long session was filled with indoor and outdoor activities as well. These
helped in understanding how concepts can be grasped through simple fun activities
while promoting a spirit of enquiry and critical thinking. The emphasis was on
enhancing students’ sense of responsibility, accountability and awareness about
their everyday choices and how these affect the environment and society at large.
Rotary Club of Calcutta Victoria, the parent
club of the Interact Club of CIS, hosted a
talent show competition at Hotel
Hindustan International on 8th September,
2018. Arushi Pant of Grade 9 showcased
her stunning voice and Dwaipayan
Chakraborty of IB Yr1 solved 12 Rubik’s
cube problems in less than 4 minutes.

The fair was attended by representatives from esteemed
Universities across India including
Twenty four students of CIS Middle Section participated in “Mitali”; an inter-school
fest held for Middle School students, hosted by Modern High School for Girls. At the
fest there were seven events- a Quiz, Elocution competitions in Hindi and Bengali,
Dance competition, Model Making, Photography, Art event and Cooking without fire.
CIS placed First in Model making by showing how the hexagonal shape found in
beehives is utilized by mankind in various fields such as architecture, educational
models and mathematics.
CIS secured the First place in Photography for capturing a series of unique
photographs featuring flora, fauna together with human subjects. The series was
captioned- Hide and Seek by the winning pair.
Portraying beauty of nature through their effortless brush strokes, CIS placed
Second in Art.
Furthermore, the dance performance by CIS students received a special mention for
the significant message on environment that was portrayed through the graceful
Kashmiri folk dance- “Rouff”.
The students of Grade 6 did an activity on Fossil making to
appreciate how the geologists have been reconstructing the history of the earth through fossil studies. This activity was done in context to the history of the earth - the various changes it has undergone and the evolution of life over a period of time. The activity started with a Flipped Classroom session where a student guided the class on the art of fossil making. This was followed by a lesson where this learning was put into practice. The students also made interesting charts on dinosaurs to recreate the Jurassic Age in their classrooms.
