Dear SIMS Conference Participants:
Welcome to the 2011 Senior Information Management System (SIMS) Conference. I would like to extend a warm greeting to you and thank you for taking the opportunity to learn more about how to make the most of the EOEA data management system.
For the next two days, you will be working with EOEA's SIMS team and Harmony Information Systems, Inc. to enhance your data management skills to better meet the needs of the consumers you serve every day. This will add immeasurably to the Patrick Administration's goal of empowering consumers to take charge of their lives supported by the best trained personnel maintaining the most appropriate services to meet their needs.
As the Commonwealth's senior and disabled population expands, we are committed to streamlining our information system to make it easier for you to record and share data that will relieve the burden of paperwork thereby maximizing your efficiency and accessibility to the consumers you serve.
I n 2011, the first of the "baby boomers" will be celebrating their sixty- fifth birthdays at a rate of approximately 10,000 daily. I n Massachusetts, the senior population will increase from about 20% to more than 26% by 2030. At the same time, the senior population is living longer and presenting more challenges. These challenges prompt new opportunities such as development of this next generation of information management systems.
You are an essential part of the Elder Affairs network and I thank you, again, for the work you do every day to maintain the service network that supports all of MA consumers.
Sincerely,
Ann L. Hartstein

Dear SlMS Conference Participant:
I want to welcome you to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. We are delighted to host the 201 1 S1MS Users Conference.
Universities exist, promote, provide and improve information and skills students need to succeed. For the next two days, you will be learning to use an updated version of the technology so essential in the service of the seniors you serve. Just as we believe UMASS Dartmouth expands the possibilities of our students, we know this conference will expand the possibilities of Massachusetts seniors, their families and caregivers.
Education and technology are dynamic: always changing to meet new needs. The program you master here will necessarily change as the aging population continues to grow. I salute you for your commitment to Massachusetts seniors and look forward to working with you today and in the future.
