Senior Class Officers Make the Year Memorable
A lot of time and effort goes intomaking a senior year as memorable aspossible, but who are the peopleresponsible for this? This year it is the
senior class officers. The group of hard-working
officers is comprised of president SethMoomaw, vice president Austin
Anderson, secretary Ethan Taylor, treasurer Joey Wolford, and historianChristianna Shaffer. The officers are in charge of manythings, such as preparing forgraduation, planning the senior trip, scheduling speakers, collectinginformation and making ballets, making the senior slide show, andcollecting stuff for reunions. The senior class president isMoomaw. Moomaw has been in officetwo years; last year he was the vicepresident. When he’s not helping out atschool, he enjoys playing tennis andgetting mani-pedis. Moomaw plans to attend WestVirginia University to major in biology;he then plans to go to graduate schooland medical school. Moomaw said to upcoming officers,“Work as a group, be a team, majorityvote wins, and make an agenda.” Moomaw’s right-hand man is vicepresident Austin Anderson. Andersonis a two year veteran of the officer team. After graduation he plans to attendWest Virginia University to get adegree in psychology. He wants to bea high school counselor like Mrs.Walker. He is auditioning for the WVUband.. Currently he is the drum majorof the Hampshire High School band. Anderson said this aboutgraduation: “I am nervous, anxious, excited, petrified; I’m feeling
everything right now, it’s unlike anyfeeling.” His advice to underclassmen is“don’t blink. Your high school years goway too fast. Take it from someone whoknows and has experienced it all.” Taylor, the secretary of the group, records all the stuff the officersaccomplish. One big thing in particularthat he did as secretary was writingletters that were sent out for prom lastyear. Taylor participates in baseball, soccer and peer helpers. After schoolhe plans to attend WVU with his fellowofficers to become a civil engineer. “Graduation can’t come soonenough!” he said. Wolford occupies the treasurerposition on the board of officers. Hecounts money and makes sure theyhave enough to fund activities andhelps decide what to do with any extramoney. After high school, he plans to workduring summer and then attendAllegany College’s culinary artsprogram to become a chef.“I can’t waitto get out of here; everything haschanged so fast in the four years I havebeen here.”
He said, “Make high school thebest you can; it’s what you make it, somake it fun.”

What did I learn during my fouryears of high school? What didn’t I learnthat will make me successful in life? Ilearned to check the expiration date onanything you plan on eating or drinking, especially the milk. Always check thebathroom stall and toilet before entering.Never trust the words, “ I will hold ontothat paper for you.” Do not do anythingyou would not want people to know. Re-member it is a small school inside of a
small town. Even if you do not knowwhat you are doing, someone else does. Most of all, I have given my heartand soul for my Trojans. This is the be-ginning to a wonderful life. HampshireHigh School has taught me how to takeon and conquer the real world. It hastaught me how to gain friends and losefriends. It has given me the knowledgeI plan to use wisely in my future.
In my four years of high school, Ihave learned a lot. I have realized whoI really am and what I really want outof life. The main thing that I have foundout about myself is that I refuse to settlefor less than what I deserve. Graduating is scary yet extremelyrewarding, considering I‘ve had a veryrough four years. To be bluntly hon-est, I have hated high school and havealways been on the verge of droppingout. But now that the time has come,I‘m extremely proud of myself for stay-ing in school. People say that high school is thebest time you will ever have in yourlife, and although I‘ve always had anegative attitude towards school, I re-ally have had some of my best memo-ries. Being able to say “I‘m finallyready to start my life” is the best feel-ing.
“Do what makes you happybecause in the end.. who is there?YOU” - -Tyler the Creator
That's just one of the many life les-sons I have learned in high school, andI know that it is most likely the bestone I have learned. When I lie in bedat night sometimes, I think about howmuch can happen in four years. WhenI recollect and reminisce about wayback in 2008 and 2009, I rememberwhat I was like, who I was friends with, and growing up really is a depressingthought.
When I was younger, I was vulner-able, and let‘s be honest, stupid. I mademany bad decisions throughout my highschool career and don‘t regret a singlething that I have done. I would notchange one thing about my actions in thepast because you know what they say:"You live and you learn." My advice forfreshmen is don`t grow up too fast. Takeyour time and enjoy the small things. Although I‘m still not sure what ex-actly I want to do in life, I know that lifewill take me wherever I'm supposed tobe, and with all good things, come thebad. At the beginning of this article, I wasclueless and wasn‘t sure how I should re-flect on the past four years. I wasn‘t sureif I should be completely honest, or if Ishould sugar coat it. Obviously I choseto be blunt and honest because that's howlife is. Nothing is sugar coated, and noteverything in life is fair. It took me aboutthree years until I figured that out, andnow that I have expressed my feelings, Ifeel a lot better about my whole highschool experience. It's extremely true that what you de-cide on doing now will change how youlive the rest of your life. The realizationof knowing that my life will never reallybe the same is crazy, and I know for afact that graduation is the the end of onejourney, but it‘s just the start of a wholenew one, and that's enough for me.

The position of historian is filled byShaffer. She has been the historian fortwo years. Fellow officer Anderson saidthis about Shaffer:“Christianna is theheartbeat of the situation.” When she isn’t busy with her officer'sduties, she participates in the NationalHonor Society and National TechnicalHonor Society; she is the president ofRAZE and enjoys being Miss HampshireCounty. After high school she wants to attend
WVU to get her degree in elementaryeducation and become a kindergardenteacher or a counselor. Her advice for upcoming officers is“start early, make sure you includethe entire senior population, not justthe ones you like, and have a goodwork ethic.” Although she looks forward tograduation, she will miss her friends.“It’s going to be bitter sweet I’mgoing to miss a lot of people," saidShaffer.

GO TROJANS!
Principals Say Farewell
I want to take this opportunity tocongratulate all of you on graduatingfrom Hampshire High School. It is anoutstanding accomplishment that youhave achieved. All your life you have waited to “turn18, be an adult.” Well, you are there! Itis now your time. You will now have tomake tough decisions, get a job, vote, raise a family, pay taxes, and make loanpayments on your home and car, payutilities, credit cards, food, clothing, buyinsurance, purchase health care andbecome a QVC freak! Some of you mayeven have to help take care of youparents/grandparents. You are going to find out what yourgrandparents and parents have been“preaching” to you all you lives. Thoserules and regulations that they poundedin your head, those lessons that youdidn’t want to be bothered with. Youknew it all. Well, now you will have toprove, on your own, that you do. Youare now responsible for your future andthe future of this country. The future you face is a verychallenging one. The world is becomingsmaller and smaller. Technology isbecoming the mainstay of everydayliving. Skills and education are the keysto success for you and your generation. With all I have written, remember(Continued on Page 5)
Another year has come and gone hereat HHS, and it is hard to believe that thestudents of the Class of 2012 have finishedtheir goals of graduation and are ready tobegin a new journey. Some of you willjourney on to higher educationopportunities; others will move onwardin a military career or to the world ofwork, and some will pursue thedevelopment of you own families.Whatever path it is you choose to take, goat it full force and be the best you can. It is always disheartening to hear offormer students who began life's journeyafter graduation and have failed in theirattempts at accomplishment. You eachhave withstood years of public schooling;you have survived the social scene thusfar, and you have made it through somedifficult times with your heads held high. When the going gets tough in your adultlife, look back upon these years andremember those times when you thoughtthe world was ending over the drama thatis teen life. You made it through thosetimes. You can make it through others.Failure hasn't been an option thus far;don't allow it to become one from here onout. It is my sincere hope that you find yoursuccesses each in your own unique way.May you, the Class of 2012, find your wayas you navigate life's path. I believe in all
