Message from the President
Submitted by Eric Steen IhavehadsomelongtimeSenderaownerscontactmeandexpresstheirconcern about what they perceive as a decline in the neighborhood. Theboard is doing everything in its power to maintain the quality of life wehave come to know and love here in Sendera, however we are limited inwhatwecando.TheBoardofDirectorsisnottheAssociation,butratheragroupofAssociationmemberswhohavevolunteeredtheirtimetohelptheAssociationbyoverseeingthecontractorsandmakingsuretheAssociation'sassetsareproperlymaintained.SincetheBoardofDirectorsarevolunteerstheAssociationusesamanagementcompany,GoodwinManagement,totakecareoftheday-to-dayactivities.ThemanagementcompanycollectsduesandfeesfortheAssociation,managesDeedRestrictionViolations(DRVs),andmakessurethecommonareasaremaintained.TheonlywaytokeepSenderasecureisforeachandeveryresidenttotakepart. EarlymorningsIrunthroughtheneighborhoodandseeatleasthalfadozengaragedoorsopen,andhouseswithnewspaperspiledup.Thesearethetypesofthingsthatattractcrime,sopriortoleavingforworkinthemorningandbeforesettlingdownintheeveningmakesureyourgaragedoorisclosed,yourcardoorsarelocked,andnothingvaluableisvisable.Ifyouhaven'tdonesoalreadygettoknowyourneighbors.Thatwayyoucankeepaneyeoutandcallthepoliceifsomethingisgoingonattheirhousewhiletheyaregone.Rememberthatwhenyouseesomethinghappeningthatdoesn'tlookrightcall911immediately.TheotherthingsthatwillhelpkeepSenderasecureisfullparticipationintheneighborhoodwatch,andifyouhavealittleextratimevolunteertocheckontheamenities,ordrivearoundtheneighborhood. NationalNightOutisTuesday,October5thandIencourageeveryonetogetoutandmeetyourneighbors.WeareallSendera,andeverylittlebiteachofusdoescanmakeahugeimpactonthesecurityofourneighborhood.BecausesomealertresidentswereabletogetalicenseplatenumbertothepolicewhenthepoolhousewasbrokenintobackinMaythepolicenowhavetheperpetratorincustodyalongwithaconfession. IamalsohappytoannouncethatarrangementshavebeenmadetokeepthepoolopenthroughatleastNovember.Allthefurnitureexceptthepicnictableswillbeputaway,andthewaterisnotheated,butIknowthereareafewwhowillfindthisnewswelcome.

Saturday October 9th - Don’t miss Cowan Elementary School’s Fall Carnival from 11:00-4:00pm.Therewillbefoodbooths,games,vendors,andentertainment.FeelfreetowearyourHalloweencostumes to thisgreat eventwhichgetsbiggerandbettereveryyear! Judges are needed for the annual Halloween Decorating Contest! 6th Annual Sendera Chili Cook Off and Fair Sunday November 7th theSenderaRecreationCommitteewillhost the sixthSendera Chili Cook Off and Fair in theparkinglotbythepoolfrom2:30-6:30pm(TheCowboysplayat7:00pm).Judging will take place at 3:00 PM at which time residents notparticipatingascookscanjoininthefunwitha“bottomless”cuptobefilledatthechilibooths(whileitlasts),checkoutthevendors,enjoyentertainmentandgettoknowyourneighbors.CashPrizesandtrophieswillbeawardedforseveralcategoriesofchiliincluding:bestred,bestgreen,bestbooth,andfanfavorite. 9. Eachteamisresponsibleforpreparingonepotofredorgreenchili(atleast3-5quarts)tobejudged.Aboutbeans-chiliwillbejudgedwithoutbeans,butteamsmayaddbeansbeforeservingtotheneighbors.
10.Atthediscretionoftheheadjudge,cooksmayberequiredtotastetheirownchiliinfrontofajudgeatanytimeduringtheevent.
11.No deliberate sabotage to another contestant or their entrywill be tolerated and such an act would lead to automaticdisqualification.So,don’teventhinkaboutit.
12.Firearms,explosivesorotherpyrotechnicswillnotbeallowedonthepremises.(Hey,it’sTexas-wehadtosayit).
