ACADEMIC SENATE MINUTES
March 8, 1972 Vol. III, No. 16
CALL TO ORDER
David Wedemeyer, Vice -Chairman of the Senate, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p. m. in the University Union Ballroom.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Charles Edwards was named Chairman on the first ballot. He received 22 of 43 votes. David Raymond was elected Vice-Chairman. Charles Hicklin was elected Secretary. (See voting procedures appended to these Minutes. A complete list of Election Results and a list of Senate members is also appended).
ELECTION OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and Secretary of the Senate, as well as the Student Body President and the President of the University, serve on the Executive Committee. In addition to these, the following four faculty Senators and two student Senators were elected:

ELECTION OF MEMBERS TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS
Phil Steffen was elected for a one - year term. Charles Hicklin was elected for a three - year term. Already serving on the committee are Ira Cohen, Ben Hubbard, and Charles E. Morris.

RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE PRESIDENT'S STUDY GROUP ON STUDENT COUNSELING, GR OWTII , AND DEVELOPMENT
The report was distributed and discussed. William Arnold and George Taylor were present to answer questions.
Discussion centered on questions about:
1. The recommendation of an office of student advocacy.
2. The cost offering of counseling services to all of the persons listed in the report.
3. The problems associated with eliminating the academic advisement office.
The President indicated that he would ha ve a communication from his office on this report within a week.

the committee be asked to respond at a later date passed with one objection and four abstentions.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM
The report from the Study Group on Administrative Organization was distributed. Some discussion was held on various points. Dean Helgeson stated that a reaction to the report would be forthcoming soon from him.
At 10:05 a motion (Hathway-Sullivan) was made to adjourn. It passed unanimously.
