THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2016 (PAGE 10) DAILY EXCELSIOR, JAMMU Khandu flags off 5th leg of Maruti Suzuki National Super League TSD Rally Excelsior Sports Correspondent ITANAGAR (AP), Dec 14: Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu flagged off the 5th leg of Maruti Suzuki National Super League TSD Rally Championship from Civil Secretariat, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. This is the first ever Maruti Suzuki motorsports rally to debut in the North-east. The rally will be passing through the oldest town of the State, Pasighat, also known as “Gateway of Arunachal Pradesh” and will conclude in the breath-tak- ing quaint village, Dambuk on December 17. The rallyists will be covering over 700 km distance, traversing through the undulating hilly terrain of Arunachal Pradesh. The rallyists from all across the country are extremely excited as they would get to experience Arunachal’s beauty along the way. Commenting on the occasion, Vinay Pant, Assistant Vice President, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd said, “The response we have received for all the stages of this championship has been phenomenal and reflects the passion people have for motor- sports. Through National Super League TSD Rally Championship, we have reached out to the budding talent and given them a platform to showcase their passion for the machines and also prepare them- selves for larger format rallies.” The Rally of Arunachal will see over 40 participants competing for the prestigious title. The partic- ipants include winners of Backwaters Rally and Deccan Rally KarthickMaruthi and S Sankar Anand. Other key partici- pants like Sachin Singh and Jagmeet Gill are set to give a tough competition to the title holders. This championship is another initiative by Maruti Suzuki to pro- mote motorsports in India. It is a combination of six different rallies namely Maruti Suzuki Uttarakhand Rally, Deccan Rally, Backwaters Rally, Mughal Rally, Rallyof Arunachal and Gujarat Rally - which will be the champi- onship finale. Participants can either be part of the all six rallies or they can participate in individual rallies. The participants will experi- ence a unique blend of motor- sports and music with The Orange Festival of Music and Adventure coinciding with the thrilling rally. ASCOMS Sports Meet inaugurated Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 14: The Annual Sports cum Academic Meet, being organized by ASCOMS College and Hospital was inaugurated with pomp and show, here today. The event was inaugurated by D K Batra, Joint Secretary in presence of Dr Pavan Malhotra , Director Principal and Dr Ravinder K Gupta , Vice Chairman Sports and Cultural Department. Various senior faculty mem- bers , residents, staff members and students were present during the inauguration. On the opening day there were Tug of War matches between staff and students in both male and female category. Staff team won the match con- vincingly in both the categories.It was followed by 100 metres race for the female teaching staff . Dr Nitika , Dr Deepender and Dr Meeta were 1st , 2nd and 3rd respectively. There was a cricket match between staff and students also.The staff team scored 195 for 7 in stipulated 20 overs. Dr Pavan Malhotra and Dr Ravinder K Gupta gave a solid opening stand of 56 runs in first 4 overs. Due to all round display of Dr Amit Suri the staff team won the match with a huge margin of 104 runs. Dr Ravinder and Dr Amit took 2 wickets each and grabbed 2 catches each. During the 4 day Meet, a lot of sports, cultural and academic activities will be conducted for staff and students. Poonch Royals win Ace of Spades T20 Cricket Tournament Excelsior Sports Correspondent RAJOURI, Dec 14: With an aim to spread the message of communal harmony amongst the locals and engage the youth in meaningful activities, Ace of Spades Inter District T20 Cricket Tournament was conducted at Sports Stadium, here. A total of eight teams with four from Rajouri and one each from Poonch, Naushera, Mendhar and Krishnaghati participated in the Tournament. The final match of the tourna- ment was played between Rising Peer Panjal and Poonch Royals in which Poonch Royals emerged as winners in a keenly contested match. The final was witnessed by Civil and Army dignitaries with locals and school children cheer- ing the teams with full zeal. The chief guest appreciated the participating teams for their sportsman spirit and thanked the locals for their whole hearted par- ticipation and response to the tournament. Sunil Kumar of Poonch Royals was declared as man of the match and Iftikar Bhatti of Poonch Royals was adjudged as the man of the series. With around 150 youth involved as part of various teams, the T20 Cricket Tournament cre- ated a lot of enthusiasm among the Youth of the town and the local population of Rajouri. CM inaugurates Skating Rink; gives away prizes Excelsior Sports Correspondent SRINAGAR, Dec 14: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today inaugurated a Roller Skating rink at Bakshhi stadium. She also distributed prizes among the winners of a football tourna- ment. Interacting with the players on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the Government intends to provide all basic sports facilities at district and block levels so that the youth take benefit of the same. The Chief Minister said she was happy to see young boys and girls playing, smiling and enjoying their times again. Later, the Chief Minister gave away prizes among winner teams of a football tournament in which 640 players represent- ing 20 boys and 10 girls' teams participated. Starting from December 5, 38 matches were played in the tournament and today IFC Nowgam bagged the first posi- tion among the boys and Women's College, M. A. Road bagged the top slot among the girls teams. The fortnight long tourna- ment was organized by Table Tennis Association District Leh in collaboration with District Youth Services and Sports. As many as 60 players participated in the various categories. On the concluding day, three match between finalists of Senior Men’s, Senior Women’s and U/17 boy category. In the men’s doubles, Rinchen Angdu and Jamyang Dorjay played with Amjad Ali Khan and Siddhart Norbo and won the match in straight sets. In women’s singles, Eshy Dolma played with Stanzin Angmo and Stanzin Angmo won the match in straight sets. Players in action during a match of 65th All India Police Hockey Championship in Jammu. –Excelsior/Rakesh Semis position cleared in 65th All India Police Hockey ITBP, Punjab, CRPF, BSF enter last four stages Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 14: Semifinals lineup has been drawn in 65th All India Police Hockey Championship, being played at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here. Defeating their rivals convinc- ingly, ITBP, Punjab, CRPF and BSF have entered the last four stages and will be meeting each other tomorrow for sealing berth in the finals. Earlier, in the first quarterfi- nals, ITBP defeated Odisha by four goals to two (4-2). For ITBP, the first goal was scored by MC Meetai in 14th minute, which was followed by the second goal netted by Harwinder Singh in 27th minute. However, Sudhir Batra and Umesh Kishan of Odisha scored goals in 29th and 38th min- utes to equalize the score. ITBP players came back strongly to score two back to back goals in 44th and 66th minutes through Harwinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh, to finally win the match by (4-2). Dilbar Sandhu and Malkiat Singh were the umpires, Joginder Singh and VP Sharma were the judges, while Gurmeet Singh was the technical officer. In the second quarterfinal, Punjab blanked Tamil Nadu by six goals to nil (6-0). For Punjab, Satwinder Singh scored the first goal in 4th minute of the match. Then after a gap of 18 minutes, Punjab managed to score three back to back goals in 22nd, 27th and 29th minutes through Gurbaj Singh, Amit Sandhu and Ajay Kumar respectively to make it 4-0 in their favour in the first half. Jagmeet Singh scored two goals in the second half in 54th and 70th minutes to help his team win by (6-0). Vijay Panchal and Jai Bhagwan were the match umpires, Sham Lal and MS Reen were the judges and Amar Singh Negi was the technical officer. In the third quarterfinal match, CRPF got better of hosts Jammu and Kashmir by four goals to one (4-1). The goal scorers for CRPF were Jayant Tirkey (17th minute), Bikas Kujur (25th minute), Bikas Kujur (48th minute) and Ravender Kujur (66th minute). The lone goal from J&K was scored by Jasreet Singh in 67th minute. Ravinder Kharab and Deepak Kumar were the umpires, Gurmeet Singh and Amar Singh Negi were the judges, while Feroz Mohd Khan was the technical officer. In the last quarterfinal match, BSF thrashed Karnataka by five goals to nil (5-0). The first goal was scored by Gudjit Singh in 16th minute, which was followed by second in 17th minute netted by Mandeep Singh. The third and 4th goals were scored by Hatinder Singh in 40th and 45th minutes, while the fifth goal was netted by Lakhvir Singh in 67th minute. Rajendra Kumar, today inaugurat- ed South Kashmir Sports Festival 2016 at Government Boys Degree College, Khanabal here. On the occasion, DGP took salute at the March Past by the teams of different sports and vari- ous cultural items were also pre- sented by the students and artists which were highly applauded by the audience. Speaking on the occasion, DGP said that the main purpose behind organizing such events was to bridge the gap between police and public. He said that police has already organized many such programmes and continue to strive for the same in future as well. "Through these events we get opportunities to watch extraordinary performances of the outstanding sports persons besides encouraging the poten- tial sports persons", DGP said. He declared that the winners of various events would be dually rewarded so that they feel encouraged and strive to com- pete at national and international levels. The DGP also announced a cash reward of Rs 10000 in favour of Yasir Noorani hailing from Pulwama, a differently abled boy, for his heart throb- bing singing talent. DGP further informed that fees of talented youth would also be waived off if they choose to study at J&K Police Public School. It is worthwhile to mention here that J&K Police runs Police Public Schools at several locations in the state including Srinagar, Jammu, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kargil and so forth. The Sports festival is being conducted in the disciplines of Tennis Ball Cricket, Volley Ball, Kho Kho, Chess, Carrom and Sqay Martial Art from December 14 to 25. The matches will be conducted in two phases. The teams of each district will compete among themselves at respective District Hqrs of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and PD Awantipora, from Dec 15 to 17 in 1st phase. The 2nd phase of the festival will be conducted at Degree College Anantnag ground where the winners of 1st Phase will compete among themselves (inter-district).The closing cere- mony is scheduled to be held on December 25, in which all the winner and runner up teams would be awarded in a spectacu- lar ceremony. SKIMS Premier Football League concludes Excelsior Sports Correspondent SRINAGAR, Dec 14: SKIMS Premier Football League's concluding ceremony was held today at SKIMS Medical College in which legis- lators Noor Mohammad and Saif ud-Din Bhat were chief guest and guest of honour respective- ly. Both the lawmakers gave away prizes to the winning and runner-up teams. They lauded the SKIMS Principal and organ- izers for conducting such sports activities in the college after a gap of many years and assured the College administration of all possible support from the Government in enhancing sports infra of the institution. Winners of SKIMS Premier Football League being felicitated in Srinagar. 5th Christmas Soccer Championship Kanwal Sports scripts convincing win over Udhampur FC Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 14: Kanwal Sports Anantnag Football Club registered convincing win over Udhampur Football Club via tie breaker by four goals to three (4-3) in the ongoing 5th Christmas Soccer Championship, which is being organized by Christian Sports Organization in collabora- tion with J&K Football Association at Parade ground, here. The Championship is being organized with an objective to help youth not to take drugs and live a healthy life. The slogan of the tour- nament is “Be Healthy–Don’t Do Drugs”. Earlier, in the stipulated time both the teams scored 2 goals each. From KS Anantnag, Qasim scored 1st goal in 23rd minute, while 2nd goal was scored by Adil Shafi through penalty kick in 20th minute. Reasi Eleven registers emphatic win Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 14: In the 3rd league match of Dr. Vidushi Kapahi memorial 50 over cricket league played at Country Cricket Academy grounds Gharota Jammu, between Reasi Eleven and KC International School, Reasi Eleven emerged victorious. Reasi Eleven won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, they scored 196 runs in 40 overs with their captain Kapil scoring (31), Aamir (30) and Vikas (28). From the KC International side, Jaswinder was the pick of the bowlers who scalped 3 wickets. Mohim, Kanav, Jagpreet, Yogan and Vansh took one wicket each. While chasing the target, KC International School manged to score 147 runs in 32 overs to lose the match by 49 runs. Kanav con- tributed 28 runs, while Nandi scored 22. From the Reasi XI side Rahat got 3 wickets, while Sahil, Neeraj, Rubal and Kapil took one each. Shugal Sharma and Sahil Sharma were the umpires in today's match. Sqay trials on Dec 20 Excelsior Sports Correspondent BUDGAM, Dec 14: Jammu and Kashmir Sqay Association will be conducting selection tri- als on December 20 at Sports Stadium, Budgam, to pick the team for 6th Senior National Federation Cup to be held at New Delhi from January 7 to January 9, 2017. The players desirous to take part in the trials will have to report at the venue on the said date alongwith age proof certifi- cate and two passport size pho- tographs.

A total of eight teams withfour from Rajouri and one eachfrom Poonch, Naushera, Mendharand Krishnaghati participated inthe Tournament.

The final match of the tourna-ment was played between RisingPeer Panjal and Poonch Royals inwhich Poonch Royals emerged aswinners in a keenly contestedmatch.

The final was witnessed byCivil and Army dignitaries withlocals and school children cheer-ing the teams with full zeal.

The chief guest appreciatedthe participating teams for theirsportsman spirit and thanked thelocals for their whole hearted par-ticipation and response to thetournament. Defeating their rivals convinc-ingly, ITBP, Punjab, CRPF andBSF have entered the last fourstages and will be meeting eachother tomorrow for sealing berthin the finals.

Earlier, in the first quarterfi-nals, ITBP defeated Odisha byfour goals to two (4-2). For ITBP,the first goal was scored by MCMeetai in 14th minute, which wasfollowed by the second goal nettedby Harwinder Singh in 27thminute. On the occasion, DGP tooksalute at the March Past by theteams of different sports and vari-ous cultural items were also pre-sented by the students and artistswhich were highly applauded bythe audience.
