VMKV Engineering College Salem – ISTE Student Chapter, organized one day industry institution

interaction program with help of CII – Confederation of Indian Industry, Salem 15.02.2014 at the college

Auditorium. Mr. Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss Industries Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore,

addressed the Engineering and Management Students of VMKV Engineering College, about the today’s

position of Energy Sector, Food Preservation to meet out the challenges of the nation against population

growth and need of entrepreneurship among engineering and management students. He emphasized

the learning community to come out with courage to commence business, and narrated leadership

qualities required to become an entrepreneur to innovate some projects that can get commercialized.

Students of various engineering discipline clarified their doubts about their views towards industries and

also the guest explained the need of industry and its expectations. He advised the learning community

to be versatile personality both that can be fit for employment as well as entrepreneurship, and pointed

out that unlearning as the most important learning process to be inculcated by every individual during

their studies to meet out any challenge in their life. Mr. S. Devarajam Chairman, CII Salem District &

Managing Director of Sambndam Spinning Mills Ltd., also addressed the students. Dr. A. Nagappan

Principal, VMKV Engineering College preside over the function.

The seminar was organized by Prof.N.Rajan, HOD, Department of Mechanical Engineering and

assisted by other faculties from various Department, and Dr. C.S. Ramanigopal, Prof. & Head,

Management Studies conveyed vote of thanks.

Dr.A.Nagappan, Principal of VMKV Engineering College presided over the inaugural session and

advised the students to utilize the opportunity effectively and update their knowledge of Opportunities

from the speaker.

PATHWAY TOWARDS AN EMERGING AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY

Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College, Salem one of the constituent

colleges of Vinayaka Missions University, Salem has organized a seminar on “Pathway Towards An

Emerging Automobile Industry” for the Mechanical and Automobile Engineering students of the college

on 13.02.2014 at the college Auditorium. Ms.Uma, DGM (HR), Susee Group of Companies, Mr. Prasad,

DGM, volswagan, Susee Group of Companies, Trichy and Mr. Naresh Kumar, Service Manager, Rock City

Ford, Salem were the resource persons. Dr.K.G.Muthurajan, Dean, school of Mechanical Sciences

welcomed the gathering and Dr.A.Nagappan, Principal of VMKV Engineering College presided over the

inaugural session and advised the students to utilize the opportunity effectively and update their

knowledge of Opportunities on Automobile Service Sector. All the students from the above

departments participated in the seminar. The resource person explained the current scenario of

Automobile Industries and the practical difficulty in recruiting the engineering students for the service of

automobiles. A PowerPoint Presentation was made about their Group of Companies and the HR, DGM

briefed the students about the profile of their various service outlets and opportunities available in their

company. The seminar was very useful and informative to the students. The seminar was organized by

Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College, Salem one of the constituent

colleges of Vinayaka Missions University, Salem has organized a workshop on “Automobile Electrical

System” for the students of Mechanical, Automobile, Electrical and Electronics Engineering students of

the college at the Automobile Lab of the college. Mr.K.Aravind, Manager (Training) South India, Robert

Bosch Ltd, Chennai was the resource person. The inaugural session of the workshop was conducted on

25.01.2014. Dr.A.Nagappan, Principal of VMKV Engineering College presided over the inaugural session

and advised the student to utilize the opportunity effectively and update their knowledge on

Automobile Electrical System. All the students from the above departments participated in the

workshop, a technology enabled program imparting knowledge and training on the latest developments

in the electrical system of the automobile. The resource person took lot of efforts in explaining the

intricacies of the electrical system, its latest advancement and techniques. The workshop was very

useful and informative to the students and as well as faculties. The workshop was organized by

Prof.N.Rajan, HOD, and Department of Mechanical Engineering and assisted by other faculties of the

Department.

for the students of Mechanical Engineering students of the college at the Automobile Lab of the college.

Prof.T.Raja, HOD of Automobile Engineering and Prof.N.Rajan, HOD of Mechanical Engineering are the

resource persons. The inaugural session of the workshop was conducted on 17.02.2014. Dr.A.Nagappan,

Principal of VMKV Engineering College presided over the inaugural session and advised the student to

utilize the opportunity effectively and update their knowledge on Automotive Transmission System. All

the students from the above departments participated in the workshop, a technology enabled program

imparting knowledge in understanding the functioning of Gear system, Gear box and differential Gear

unit.

As the automobile is the growing sector absorbing good number of students as young Engineers, we at

VMKV Engineering College are conducting various programs to imbibe the knowledge of Automobile

Engineering and make them industry ready. As part of the above the workshop is organized for the

benefit of the students. The workshop is a weeklong program, a hands-on training conducted

exclusively for the benefit of Mechanical Engineering Students. The workshop is organized by

Prof.N.Rajan, HOD Department of Mechanical Engineering and assisted by faculties of the Department.

Prof.P.K.KUMARESAN, Dean/Exam cell and CAO has delivered keynote address on Automotive

Transmission Systems emphacising the need of the reliability of such systems for undisturbed and

safe travel by the people and transport of goods to the prescribed destinations in time.

components involved in the transmission system

NATIONAL CONFERENCE CUM STUDENT SYMPOSIUM

1. RECENT TRENDS IN MANUFACTURING TECHONOLOGY - RTMT – 09

A National Level Conference on RECENT TRENDS IN MANUFACTURING TECHONOLOGY RTMT –

09 was conducted on 19.3.09 and the chief guest of the inaugural function was Dr.V.S.K

Venkitachalapathy, Principal Manakula vinayagar Engineering college , Puduchery and the chief guest

of the valedictory function was Dr.Y.Robinson, Principal, Priyadharsini Engineering College Vaniyampadi.

2. REPORT ON “MECHANICAL HARVEST – 2010

School of Mechanical Sciences, Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College,

Salem has organized a two day NATIONAL LEVEL CONFERENCE in “MECHANICAL HARVEST – 2010”. The

Conference has been inaugurated on 23 Sep 2010 at 0930 Hrs by Chief Guest Mr.BIRADAR DEVIDAS,

Assistant General Manager Quality Control, Ashok Leyland Unit-II, Hosur, Guest of Honour

Mr.L.SWAMINATHAN, Advocate High Court Madras and Puduchery in the benevolent presence of

Dr.A.NAGAPPAN, Principal V.M.K.V. Engineering College, Dr.P.RAVIKUMAR, Professor and Dean, all

Staff members and Students of School of Mechanical Sciences. The inaugural ceremony started with

prayer followed by Lighting of Kuthuvilakku, Welcome Address, Inaugural Address, Presidential Address,

Chief Guest Address and Vote of Thanks.

“MECHANICAL HARVEST – 2010” Conference comprised of paper presentation on various topics on

Mechanical, Automobile and Aeronautical engineering. Students of 32 engineering colleges have

participated and presented their papers. Other universities Professors from concerned department and

specializations have been invited for the function as Judges for Paper Presentation and gave valuable

guidance to the students.

Apart from paper presentation, other events like Technical Quiz Competition, Various Technical Games,

Displaying of Models, Auto Expo and Aeromodelling show etc. have been organized for academic as well

as entertainment purpose.

“MECHANICAL HARVEST – 2010” has ended with a valedictory function on 24th September 2010 at

0930 Hrs. the valedictory function has started with a report on “MECHANICAL HARVEST – 2010”

followed by Presidential Address, Chief Guest Address, Valedictory Note, Prize Distribution and Vote of

Thanks. Last but not the least, the National Conference “MECHANICAL HARVEST – 2010” has been

concluded by Chief Guest Er.M.GOVINDAN, Chief Manager, Burn Standard Company Limited, Salem.

3. “MECHANICAL HARVEST V2.0– 2011”

School of Mechanical Sciences, Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College,

Salem has organized a two day State level National Conference in “MECHANICAL HARVEST V2.0– 2011”.

The National Conference has been inaugurated on 29 Sep 2011 at 0930 Hrs by Chief Guest

Mr.HARIHARAN, Head, Environment Health and safety, Prolac GE, in the benevolent presence of

Dr.A.NAGAPPAN, Principal V.M.K.V. Engineering College, Dr.P.RAVIKUMAR, Professor and Dean, all

Staff members and Students of School of Mechanical Sciences. The inaugural ceremony started with

(A STATE LEVEL TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM)

The School of Mechanical Sciences, Vinayaka Mission Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College, Salem

organized a one day State level Mechanical Symposium ‘MECHANICAL HARVEST 2012’. The symposium

has inaugurated on 26 Sep 2012 at 10.00 AM by Chief Guest Mr. R.UDAYA KUMAR, Deputy General

Manager (Project), Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Salem Steel Plant, Salem in the benevolent presence

Kuthuvilakku, Welcome Address by Mr.MANOJ, of III-Year Mechanical Engineering. In the Inaugural

Address, he explained the job opportunities in PSU, and he explained the operation of SAIL.

‘MECHANICAL HARVEST 2012’ symposium comprised of Paper Presentation on various topics

on Mechanical, Automobile and Aeronautical engineering. Students of 85 engineering colleges have

participated and presented their papers. Other universities Professors from concerned department and

specializations have been invited for the function as Judges.

Apart from paper presentation, other events like Technical Quiz Competition, Various Technical

Games, Displaying of Models, Auto Expo and Aero-modeling Show were conducted.

‘MECHANICAL HARVEST 2012’ has ended with a valedictory function at 26 Sep 2012 at

3.00 PM. The valedictory function has started with a report on ‘‘MECHANICAL HARVEST 2012’ followed

by Chief Guest Address, Valedictory Note, Prize Distribution and Vote of Thanks.

“The Mechanical Harvest 2K13” State Level Technical Symposium was conducted

on 26th September 2013 at the Annapoorana Auditorium of the College. The students of

VMKV Engineering College and from various colleges participated to the function in

large number. Dr.A.Nagappan, Principal of the college, presided over the function and

Dr.K.G.Muthurajan, Dean, Mechanical Sciences, welcomed the Chief Guest

Mr.C.Ayyappan, Scientist E grade officer National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore

and the participants.

In his presidential address Dr.A.Nagappan Principal urged the students to utilize

the opportunities provided by the college in the form Association, workshop and

symposium to enrich their knowledge. He advised the students the importance of

developing practical knowledge on the functioning of various equipments in the field of

Mechanical and automotive sector to face the challenges in their career.

Mr.C.Ayyappan in his Chief Guest address explained the various opportunities

that are available in the aviation sector for Mechanical Engineers and the future growth

is Aviation. He advised the students to sharpen their knowledge while studying and

utilize every opportunity for enhancing their competence as the Mechanical Engineers

are having vast employment opportunities then the other stream of Engineering.

As it is a state level technical symposium, students of VMKV Engineering College

and other college students submitted research papers. The Mechanical Engineering

Department of the College nominated a committee to scrutinize the research papers

and its acceptance. The students very much appreciated the efforts of the organizers of

the function for the symposium and the opportunities provided to them to submit

papers.

The fascinating feature of the event was, Air Show, Auto Expo and Quiz program.

Various companies have brought their models to impress the participants in

technological superiority and easy maneuverability of their vehicles. The event was

highly attractive and enabled the students to understand the latest technology in the

automotive sector. The quiz program was high educative and provided an opportunity

to the students to test their technical knowledge and instant response.

Prof. N.Rajan HOD of Mechanical Department and Prof. R.Sasikumar organizing

secretary of Mechanical Engineering Association have made elaborate arrangements for

the successful conduct of the function.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCES IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING- 29TH & 30TH MARCH-

2012

National conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering was conducted in Vinayaka

Mission’s Kirupanand Variyar Engineering College. The welcome address was given by

Dr.K.G.MUTHURAJAN, Dean, School of Mechanical Sciences. The chief guest of the function was

Dr.KUMARAVEL, Professor of mechanical engineering, institute of Road and Transport Technology,

Erode. Dr.P.SENGUTTUVAN, Vice –Principal of VMKV engineering college delivered the presidential

address. In his address he emphasized the importance of such conferences where the students from

various colleges will know the recent technologies in the field of their choice in the branch of

Mechanical Engineering. Pennon Varghese the student secretary of the association introduced the chief

guest to the gathering.

Prof. N.RAJAN, HOD/MECH and Prof.S.VENKATESAN the organizing secretary of the conference

has made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the conference.

The participants have come from various colleges in and around Tamil Nadu. The students have

presented the papers in lucid manner. A Total of 57 participants were registered.

With the support and encouragement of the principal VMKVEC and all the faculty members of

the department. The national conference has been conducted successfully and in an impressive manner.

“NCAME 2013” on 12.04.2013

National Level Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering – “NCAME 2013” has

been conducted at VMKV Engineering College, Salem on 12th April 2013 at AC

Auditorium of the College. Dr.K.G.Muthurajan Dean, School of Mechanical Sciences

welcomed the dignitaries and participants. Dr.A.Nagappan, Principal of the college

presided over the function. Dr.D.Senthil Kumar, Professor of Mechanical Engineering,

Sona College of Engineering, Salem has been the Chief Guest of the conference.

Dr.A.Nagappan in his presidential address very much appreciated the leading role

played by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in promoting academic

knowledge, discipline among the students, cultivating entrepreneurial skill and

organizing such academic oriented programs in furtherance of knowledge.

Dr.D.Senthil Kumar the Chief Guest delivered keynote address on the latest

advancements in the field of Mechanical Engineering and advised the students to

develop their skill in creating innovative ideas while learning and traced various career

opportunities available to the Mechanical Engineer in a developing Nation like India.

Good number of students from VMKV Engineering College and other colleges in

association with their guide has presented research papers on innovative projects in the

field of Mechanical Engineering. A glossy and educative souvenir, highlighting the

academic achievements and excellences of the students of Mechanical Engineering and

the Department has been released in the function.

MECHANICAL HARVESTAND NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCES IN

MECHANICAL ENGG 2016

The Department of Mechanical Engg conducted one day national conference

NCAME 2016 and a student symposium MECHANICAL HARVEST2016 on 20th April2016.

Dr.K.G.Muthurajan, Dean/Mechanical Engg delivered the keynote address. The

presidential address was delivered by the Principal Dr.A.Nagappan. The chief guest Mr.

Ashok Kumar IPS (retd) Director Aerospace Engineers, Salem highlighted the importance

of enhancing the entrepreneurial skills of the students and called upon the students to

take up entrepreneurship after completing their course of study. Later Mr. R.

Ramachandran, General Manager, Aerospace Engineers, Salem and the day’s guest of

honor advised the students to adopt the 3Ds (Determination, Discipline and Dedication)

in their career to become successful engineers. Students and research scholars from

various colleges and universities in and around the state participated in paper

presentations, technical Quiz programmes, gaming, etc. The valedictory function was

conducted and certificates & prizes were distributed to the participants. All the

arrangements were made by Prof. N Rajan, HOD/Mech, Prof. C.Thangavel, organizing

secretary (NCAME 2016) and Prof. S.Natarjan organizing secretary

(MechanicalHarvest2016).
