Matt Goldstein Prof. James Actor’s Craft 7 December 2014 Self-Grading I have really enjoyed this class, and I think I have gotten a lot out of it since I have put a lot into it. I always feel weird about giving myself a grade with these things, but if were to give myself a grade I’d probably give myself an A-. My biggest trouble I think was probably simply getting to class promptly at 10:30! However, once got to class, I was always excited to work and to learn, and committed to warmups, exercises, assignments, and missions 100%. I loved trying a variety of actor games, ensemble exercises, and acting techniques, and with each one, whether it be mask work, intimacy exercises, or energy levels, I tried to let the rest of my thoughts go and focus all of my energy on doing the exercise as best I could.

I always feel weird about giving myself a grade with these things, but if were to give myself a grade Id probably give myself an A-.My biggest trouble I think was probably simply getting to class promptly at 10:30! However, once got to class, I was always excited to work and to learn, and committed to warmups, exercises, assignments, and missions 100%. I loved trying a variety of actor games, ensemble exercises, and acting techniques, and with each one, whether it be mask work, intimacy exercises, or energy levels, I tried to let the rest of my thoughts go and focus all of my energy on doing the exercise as best I could.Once we got to working on objectives with smaller scripted scenes and our scenes from A View From the Bridge, I tried my best to apply what wed been discussing in class regarding objectives, energy levels, and conventions and standard practices of scenework. Me and Jasen met a good amount for our Bridges scene and worked hard trying to develop our characters objectives, relationships, physicalities, etc.In class, I always loved getting notes from you and from the class regarding our performances at different stages of the process. I really tried to engage with peoples notes and put them in effect in me and Jasens rehearsals. When watching other peoples scenes, I paid close attention and tried to give both positive feedback and feedback that was critical, specific, and helpful. After choosing a second scene with Vex, realizing that it didnt quite fit the criteria, and then picking a new scene, we were a bit behind the level that everyone else was with their second scenes. I definitely didnt put as much rehearsal time into this second scene as I would have liked to, but Vex and I have been doing the best we can with the time that we had to rehearse, and I think our work has paid off.Overall, everything Ive done for this class has come from a place of genuinely wanting to learn and grow as an actor and theatremaker, and even though I could have squeezed a few more rehearsals in here and there or been more punctual, I think that the work Ive done deserves an A-.
