Life the Way it was Meant to be

4

A boutique riverboat that evokes all of the charm, passion and mystique of Louisiana and America’s first premium river cruise experience.

JOIE DE VIVRE Life is to be enjoyed. It is a gift of boundless magnificence and the French coined a phrase to describe such a feeling: joie de vivre. For Louisiane’s staff, joie de vivre is both their mission and their muse. To travel America by riverboat is a transformative experience and to do so in the inimitable style of French America Line is a joy beyond imagination.

Expect an abundance of small touches that make each day exceptional. The casual ambiance onboard is infused with a distinctive French flair softened by the warm hospitality of the South. With only 75 suites and staterooms, the Louisiane is small enough to cruise waterways that larger riverboats cannot and intimate enough that its unobtrusive staff will quickly learn your name and preferences. Travel with those of like mind, for whom an elegant voyage through America is as treasured a gift for them as it is for you. Louisiane’s complimentary free-flowing house wines, house-brand spirits, house select beers, artisanal coffees, teas, soft drinks and purified water creates a relaxed atmosphere.

LIFE ABOARD Fresh from a multi-million dollar refurbishment, the Louisiane was meticulously designed for boutique cruises and is the quintessential way to see America. From her open decks, relax in a rocking chair with a mint julep and watch charming towns slip past. In The Veranda with walls of windows embracing the river views, savory and sweet crêpes are served throughout the day, as well as a selection of fine teas and coffees.

The intimate French Quarter Lounge overlooking the bow is the scene for lively piano entertainment each evening. Rich paneling and high ceilings make the Bar Royale the ideal setting for a pre-dinner aperitif while The Orleans Room presents an unrivalled gastronomic spectacle. For indulgence of a different sort, the Currents River Spa offers luxurious treatments featuring aromatic scented oils.

Inspiring onboard programs feature noted historians and performances that will expand your horizons. Join in a rousing singalong in the Bar Royale or, after dinner in The Orleans Room, become immersed in live jazz, blues and favorites from the American songbook as the room evolves into a stylish cabaret.

A SPACE OF YOUR OWN Seek solitude in some of the largest suites and staterooms on any river vessel and enter a world designed with comfort in mind. Deluxe mattresses are covered in luxurious linens and spa-quality bathrobes and slippers are just some of the thoughtful touches. Private verandas or French balconies grace many suites and staterooms. If you prefer to stay connected, satellite television, direct-dial telephones and complimentary Wi-Fi* are at your fingertips. In the bathrooms, find a selection of L’Occitane en Provence® bath amenities, while each evening an indulgent Vosges® chocolate graces the pillow.

Fine Dining comes to America’s RiversA grand epicurean tour of Southern and Continental cuisine.

A BLEND OF TASTES Voice the enticing words ‘bon appétit’ before dining aboard the Louisiane and pay homage to the miraculous French influence of her cuisine which has been liberally swirled with traditional Southern recipes. This pleasing mélange reflects the Parisian sense of delicacy and the enthusiasm of New Orleans. Under the aegis of Chef de Cuisine Regina Charboneau, herself a blend of Southern and French lineage, each meal becomes a celebration of life, each course a moment of sheer bliss and each bite an unforgettable sensation.

A CULINARY MASTERPIECE Crabcake Benedict, warm beignets sprinkled with powdered sugar and a café au lait is the civilized way to start the day while a traditional muffaletta or salade niçoise in The Veranda tempts the taste buds at lunch. Afternoon tea with a lemon madeleine is the prelude to entering The Orleans Room for epicurean wonders ranging from crawfish gumbo and classic escargot to a perfectly-prepared chateaubriand or fresh Gulf shrimp with cheese grits. The symphony of indulgence reaches new heights with a delicate French vanilla bean soufflé or a decadent slice of bourbon pecan pie. For those who desire to be sated at any time of day, partake of the complimentary 24-hour room service, a vanishing luxury in today’s world.

CASUAL ELEGANCE The French know that one’s surroundings are as important as one’s meal and a selection of venues have been provided aboard Louisiane to suit every mood. The Veranda is the very essence of a traditional French Bistro or eclectic sidewalk eatery in New Orleans’ French Quarter. The Orleans Room, the opulent main restaurant, is a plush jewel box inset with sparkling chandeliers and the centre stage for each day’s culinary stars. A wheeled silver cart glides across the room offering carved meats and tableside salad preparation. Fine linens, gleaming cutlery and European-inspired china are the backdrop for white-gloved servers who anticipate every need with remarkable prescience.

A WORLD MORE CIVILIZED With what we believe to be the finest cuisine ever to take to America’s rivers, the French America Line dining experience is accented by the gloriously civilized amenities which include free-flowing house wines, beers and spirits. Enjoy a refreshing Mimosa or Bellini with breakfast, a subtle chardonnay with lunch, one of Chef Regina’s signature cocktails before dinner and then a full-bodied merlot with the evening repast. Then toast to your good fortune with a flute of champagne. These are among the moments to be cherished for years to come.

A renowned chef and author, Regina Charboneau studied in Paris before opening celebrated restaurants to worldwide acclaim. She now brings her boundless creativity and stunning flavor pairings to French America Line to craft cuisine unmatched on America’s inland waterways.

A resident of Natchez, one of the most charming antebellum destinations, she got her start in San Francisco where she launched the eponymous Regina’s at the Regis and later the award-winning Biscuits & Blues nightclub. She returned to Natchez in 2001 and opened the Twin Oaks Bed and Breakfast in a historic antebellum home dating to 1832 where she teaches cooking classes as well as serves as a warm, ebullient host. Her latest venture is King’s Tavern in Natchez, specializing in fresh farm-to-table selections. Under her deft touch, the dining experience on the Louisiane is elevated to an apogee of gastronomic pleasure.

As the holidays approach, the Louisiane heads up the Red River to some of the most interesting, and decorative, destinations in Louisiana. Natchitoches celebrates with more than 300,000 lights and 100 riverbank displays. Sip a cup of eggnog on the grounds of the Kent Plantation House in Alexandria and then relive aviation history at the Barksdale Global Power Museum in Shreveport. Look for Papa Noël in Baton Rouge and in New Orleans, embrace the jazz clubs, shop among the street vendors in Jackson Square and tour the tree-shaded Garden District’s distinctive mansions. This is the ultimate collector’s voyage as this Red River passage has not been offered for years.

The South’s antebellum style is the focus of this enriching voyage through magnolia blossoms and plantation homes. A special overnight in Natchez, home of award-winning chef Regina Charboneau, allows time to explore the architecture of the National Historic District by sunshine and gas lamp. In Baton Rouge, delve into the 18th century French Creole wonders of Magnolia Mound Plantation. For the ultimate display of antebellum life, tour fabled Houmas House and enjoy a sweet tea on the porch of Oak Alley Plantation. Don’t forget to try some of the legendary turtle soup at New Orleans’ Commander’s Palace.

Your Financial Protection We provide full financial protection for our package holidays. For flight-based holidays this is through our Air Travel Organisers License Number (10701). When you buy an ATOL protected flight or flight inclusive holiday from us you will receive an ATOL Certificate. This lists the flight accommodation, car hire and/or other services that are financially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong.

We will provide you with the services listed on the ATOL certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where we aren’t able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL Holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). When you buy a package holiday that doesn’t include a flight, protection is provided by way of a bond by ABTA. We are a Member of ABTA, membership number (P6490/Y0170). We are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct.

We can also offer you an arbitration scheme for the resolution of disputes arising out of this contract. The scheme is arranged by ABTA and administered independently. It is a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on you for costs. The upper limit on claims is £5,000 per person and £25,000 per booking form. The scheme doesn’t apply to claims which are solely in respect of physical injury or illness or their consequences. It can however deal with claims which include an element of minor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,500 on the amount the arbitrator can award per person in respect of this element. Your request for arbitration must be received by ABTA within eighteen months of the date of return from holiday. For injury and illness claims, you can request the ABTA Mediation Procedure and we have the option to agree to mediation. Further information on the Code and ABTA’s assistance in resolving disputes can be found on www. abta.com.

CAA ATOL We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate, will provide you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder under which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate, are unable to provide the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder or otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust may make payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ATOL scheme. You agree that in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to those Trustees any claim which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or credit card issuer where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be reassigned to another body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme.
