Happy New Year!
I am excited for 2020 both personally and for our great City of Selah.
Selah continues to thrive, both as great place to live and a great place to do business. Be sure to join in on the many events and activities in this
coming year that make Selah the special place it is. Here are just a few:
- Selah Stroll, April 17, Selah businesses will host a special food(s)
selection paired with a local winery, brewery or distillery. Consider
hosting in your business! Mark your calendar early for this new exciting event.
- Selah Days, May 14 - 17, this is a tradition here in Selah and I know
you'll want to be a part. Once again the Chamber will be hosting the Baked Potato Feed on Friday, May 15. Please join in helping with this fun
night.
- Wine, Dine and Beyond, October 16TH, Last year was our first year with
our new name, and this year's event will be even more fun. This year we
will be sharing a portion of our profits with the Selah Education Foundation.
Of course the Chamber continues our monthly General Meetings on the 4th Wednesday at the Selah Civic Center (January 22nd). Lunch begins
and 11:30 am and the meeting begins at noon, ending at 1 pm. I look
forward to seeing you there! And bring a friend.
The Chamber continues to serve the businesses of Selah, your business and your neighbors' businesses. Let us know how we can serve you
better.
Blessings in this year to come.

As the District rolls-out The Viking Promise, its strategic priorities for the next five years, a team
of student ambassadors are working to make community connections in order to ensure the
Promise is kept.
Developed last summer following a multi-month collaboration process, The Viking Promise is.
designed to meet the needs of the whole child and will serve as a "blueprint" to guide the District’s
planning, work and focus. It reflects input from the Selah Schools community on what it sees as the
most essential educational priorities.
The mission of the student team known as Viking Promise Ambassadors and comprised of fifth through tenth graders, is to deepen
community connections through site visits with local businesses and organizations. The goal of the student contingent and District officials
is to create an open dialogue with Selah business leaders in order to learn the traits and skills they expect from Selah High School
graduates, and how that information can be used to ultimately achieve The Viking Promise.
The idea of an ambassador team originated from Selah Middle School leadership teacher and District Culture Coordinator, Susie Bennett.
Knowing community partnerships are valuable to the educational process, as Bennett brainstormed ways to connect with local businesses
and organizations, she had the idea of a reverse Viking Way Tour, a concept the District initiated two years ago. During the Viking Tours,
the District invited community leaders into each school to see a hands-on perspective of education. This time, Bennett wanted to visit
businesses to learn what skills employers look for in employees and what expectations they have for success.
Thus far, this school year the ambassador team has visited the Selah Chamber of Commerce and Tree Top. During the Tree Top visit,
students toured the facility and collaborated with a panel of employees across different departments and career paths whom described their
varying work responsibilities, and educational requirements.
Viking Promise ambassadors are: SHS: Julia Ruark, Cyndi Montes Barajas, and Harley Young; SMS: Cece Escamilla, Issak Figueroa,
Makenna Heinle, and Grady Andrews; SIS: Andrea Romero, and Braxton Young.
As the District focuses on The Viking Promise, a group of students are working to ensure the Promise is kept.
