More choice, better support

Over 1,100 people inNorth Lincolnshirehave been given morecontrol and independ-

ence through a new way of fund-ing their support services.People are assessed to see

if they qualify for a PersonalBudget, enabling them tochoose and pay for servicesto suit them. This can includeemploying someone as apersonal assistant. The coun-cil has been working withpeople to create solutionsthat are very different from itsusual services, as each indi-vidual needs different sup-port.To help in the process,

Adult Services helped fundOptions 4 U. This group ofdisabled people assiststhose interested in employ-ing Personal Assistants andutilising Personal budgets. Awebsite called ‘Connect toSupport’ is open to anyonewho wants information on so-cial care and includes a Per-sonal Assistant finder.Nicky Merricks is a service

user who has a cash per-sonal budget, a personal as-

sistant, and is a member ofOptions 4 U. She said: “Ithink being able to accessthe information from Connectto Support online has beenof great benefit. There maybe somewhere within NorthLincolnshire that I want to go,maybe the cinema or a show,or a trip out. Being able to or-ganise those things fromhome makes it so much eas-ier, and there are so manythings that you can do with apersonal budget. The more Ilearn about it, the more flexi-ble I realise it is.”If you think you or some-

one you know might benefitfrom a personal budget, visitwww.connecttosupport.com/northlincs, or call Adult Serv-ices on 01724 297979.
