Seek Souls Not Dollarsby Pastor Loescher In his sermon on the mount, Jesus said that we need to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and the Father will give us food, clothing and every other physical need as well. We recognize of course that Jesus was not condoning a hermit’s life where you do nothing but read the Bible and expect God to send ravens to your cave with bread and provide water from a rock. Although if the Lord wanted us to read the Bible every waking hour, he could provide for us in that way. On the contrary, Jesus wanted us to understand that to fuss over physical needs and ignore spiritual needs is not trusting God our Father. Recently you should have received a letter from the church council demonstrating that we are financially going in the wrong direction as a congregation. This information was given because God’s people, rejoicing in God’s pure grace in Jesus, would want to know the need so that they can address it in prayer and in their giving. Finances certainly qualify as physical needs that our heavenly Father will provide. The question is what is the kingdom and righteousness the Lord would have us seek? Continuing to provide a Christ-centered education for our children easily ranks right up there as a top priority. Nevertheless, ranked ahead of our school ministry is our own personal witness and training of our children and grandchildren. Why? Simply because God tells parents that it is their responsibility. You will search long and hard to find any reference from God’s Holy Word about organized institutional training of the children. It is always given to the parents and families. Our schools are outstanding ministry assets that we in Christian freedom have established to assist parents. For that reason, our own individual spiritual growth and worship of the Lord is another highly ranked activity that the Lord has established for seeking the Father’s kingdom and righteousness. He has commanded us for our own spiritual good that we congregate around the Word of God and the sacraments. We call these the means of grace because these are the ways he gives us his love and forgiveness. Over and over again he begs us and requires of us that we pray, crave his love, seek his face, come to him for rest. Do these things and he will see that our ministry is funded and our children blessed. One other key activity to seeking the Father’s kingdom and righteousness is praying that his kingdom come to the hearts of others who do not yet know him. We hear with urgency the call from Jesus to go and make disciples of all nations, unless we fall for the lie of pluralism which says that there are several different ways to God not just one. We hear him say, ”There are other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They, too, shall listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd” (John 10:16). Be very careful! Be very discerning. Worrying about funding our ministry leads us to the discussion of filling our classrooms and pews. “More customers will bring a greater profit.” Seeking his kingdom and his righteousness is about seeking souls for the kingdom not seeking dollars for our budget. In fact, seeking souls and bringing more into our worship and ministry has nothing to do with pride in David’s Star or balancing any kind of books. Seeking to spread the good news of Jesus has no connection at all to congregational pride. The whole concept behind the Cedarburg outreach group of four congregations is reaching the lost for Christ. Whether they join Trinity on Pleasant Valley Road, Redeemer, David’s Star or Our Savior, it makes no kingdom difference. It’s all about seeking to do the work of the church the best way we can and trusting the Lord to bless. Beware of materialism when it rises up and gets in our face. It can only get in the way of seeking his kingdom and righteousness. All we need will be added to us as well. July 2015 Volume XVII, Number 910

“Seek Souls Not Dollars”

by Pastor Loescher

In his sermon on the mount, Jesus said that

we need to seek first his kingdom and his

righteousness and the Father will give us food,

clothing and every other physical need as well.

We recognize of course that Jesus was not

condoning a hermit’s life where you do nothing

but read the Bible and expect God to send ravens

to your cave with bread and provide water from a

rock. Although if the Lord wanted us to read the

Bible every waking hour, he could provide for us

in that way. On the contrary, Jesus wanted us to

understand that to fuss over physical needs and

ignore spiritual needs is not trusting God our

Father. Recently you should have received a letter

from the church council demonstrating that we are

financially going in the wrong direction as a

congregation. This information was given because

God’s people, rejoicing in God’s pure grace in

Jesus, would want to know the need so that they

can address it in prayer and in their giving. Finances certainly qualify as physical needs

that our heavenly Father will provide. The

question is what is the kingdom and righteousness

the Lord would have us seek? Continuing to

provide a Christ-centered education for our

children easily ranks right up there as a top

priority. Nevertheless, ranked ahead of our school

ministry is our own personal witness and training

of our children and grandchildren. Why? Simply

because God tells parents that it is their

responsibility. You will search long and hard to

find any reference from God’s Holy Word about

organized institutional training of the children. It

is always given to the parents and families. Our

schools are outstanding ministry assets that we in

Christian freedom have established to assist

parents. For that reason, our own individual spiritual

growth and worship of the Lord is another highly ranked activity that the Lord has established for

seeking the Father’s kingdom and righteousness.

He has commanded us for our own spiritual good

that we congregate

around the Word of God and the sacraments.

We call these the means of grace because

these are the ways he gives us his love and

forgiveness. Over and over again he begs us

and requires of us that we pray, crave his

love, seek his face, come to him for rest. Do

these things and he will see that our ministry

is funded and our children blessed. One other key activity to seeking the

Father’s kingdom and righteousness is

praying that his kingdom come to the hearts

of others who do not yet know him. We hear

with urgency the call from Jesus to go and

make disciples of all nations, unless we fall

for the lie of pluralism which says that there

are several different ways to God not just one.

We hear him say, ”There are other sheep that

are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them

also. They, too, shall listen to my voice, and

there shall be one flock and one shepherd”

(John 10:16). Be very careful! Be very discerning.

Worrying about funding our ministry leads

us to the discussion of filling our classrooms

and pews. “More customers will bring a

greater profit.” Seeking his kingdom and his

righteousness is about seeking souls for the

kingdom not seeking dollars for our budget.

In fact, seeking souls and bringing more into

our worship and ministry has nothing to do

with pride in David’s Star or balancing any

kind of books. Seeking to spread the good

news of Jesus has no connection at all to

congregational pride. The whole concept

behind the Cedarburg outreach group of four

congregations is reaching the lost for Christ.

Whether they join Trinity on Pleasant Valley

Road, Redeemer, David’s Star or Our Savior,

it makes no kingdom difference. It’s all

about seeking to do the work of the church

the best way we can and trusting the Lord to

bless. Beware of materialism when it rises up

and gets in our face. It can only get in the

way of seeking his kingdom and

righteousness. All we need will be added to

good time to get involved in a group. Call or email Pastor

Loescher if you’d like to get involved 262.677.0919 or

ACCREDITATION UPDATE As of June 15th David's

Star Lutheran School is fully accredited by WELSSA for

another five years. There were five areas that had to be

updated after the Accreditation Team visited in March, but

all of those areas have now been met. Again I would like to

thank everyone who helped with the Accreditation process;

your hard work made this possible. Mr. Gustafson,

to all the worshippers. Please do everything you can to

reach out and greet people you see for the first time. You

will meet someone new whether they are a current member

June. Pastor Woldt will be taking vacation time in

September, but will be busy preparing for his daughter’s

business. Congratulations to all the 8th

graders moving on

to the next phase of their lives. I wish them success in

reaching the goals they have set for themselves.

Congratulations to Jean Korthals, John Giddings, Lora DuFore, and Pastor Woldt who all reached milestones in

The printed report for May was presented. The YTD

operating fund balance was a deficit in the amount of

$141,046.69. The YTD offerings to our WELS missions

was $35,691.15 which was 105.73% of budget. The YTD

offerings to the KMLHS operating fund was $22,107.46

which was 113.51% of budget and KML Joyful Noise was

$3,897.00 which was 127.15% of budget.

A motion was made and carried to accept the reports.

Church Wish List – The committee is currently working

on creating a wish list and how it will be managed. There

was a discussion regarding how to utilize undesignated

gifts that were given to the school. There may currently be

enough in the school’s undesignated gifts to purchase a

video security system for the school. The purchase of a

video security system using non-budgetary funds as they

became available had been approved in the January council

meeting. Tim will check on the amount of funds in the

school’s undesignated gifts, and this will be discussed

again in the July meeting.

“Summer Solace”

For some, the summer months bring

to mind the words of George Gershwin:

“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy.” For others,

summertime signals the start of stress time. That’s because

the summer months can bring more anxieties due to

childcare issues, vacation planning, moving to a new home,

or over-scheduling the calendar to take advantage of all the

outdoor activities. When feelings of worry or tension start

to mount, here are just a few reminders from God’s Word

of his comfort and peace and His promise to be with us and

help us during stressful times:

“When the cares of my heart are many, your

consolations cheer my soul.” Psalm 94:19

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not

as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be

troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything

by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your

requests be made known to God. And the peace of God,

which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts

and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6, 7

"I have said these things to you, that in me you may

have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take

heart: I have overcome the world." John 16:33
