Singulator Plus Meters (all seeds)Ezee Glide Plus Talc-Graphite Mix

821-069C bucket, 5 gallon (19 liter)Ezee Glide Plus LubricantTo maximize performance of Great Plains metering systems,it is imperative to use only “Ezee Glide Plus” lubricant. “EzeeGlide Plus” Talc-Graphite lubricant is mandatory for all seeds, especially treated or inoculated seed. Thorough mixing ofseed and added lubricant is required.

Recommended usage:For clean seeds other than milo and cotton sprinkleone cup of Ezee Glide Plus Talc per 4 bushels or units(170 ml per 100 liters) of seed. For milo and cotton double the application toone cup (or more) per 2 bu or units (335 ml per 100 liters) ofseed.Adjust this rate as necessary so all seeds become coatedwhile avoiding an accumulation of lubricant in the bottom ofthe hopper. For seed with excessive treatment, or for humid planting envi-ronments, increase the rate as needed for smooth meteroperation.

Irritation and Chronic Exposure Hazard:Wear gloves. DO NOT use hands or any part of your body to mixseed lubricant. Wear a respirator when transferring and mixing.Avoid breathing lubricant dust. Not an acute hazard. May cause me-chanical eye or skin irritation in high concentrations. As with allmineral spills, minimize dusting during clean-up. Prolonged inhala-tion may cause lung injury. Product can become slippery when wet.

Finger Pickup MetersEZ-Slide Graphite Powder

821-042C bottle, 1 pound (450 grams)821-060C jug, 5 pound (2.3 kg)

For Finger Pick Up Meters OnlyUse only approved Graphite Powder available from GreatPlains Mfg. Inc. or Precision Planting to ensure proper lubri-cation of finger pickup corn seed meters.Recommended usage:For finger pickup meters, add one tablespoon (15 ml) ofgraphite for each unit of seed corn (80,000 kernels). In high humidity conditions, or seeds with heavy seed treat-ments, increase the application to two tbsp (30ml).If delivery of seed from the hopper to the finger meter is an is-sue, add “Ezee Glide Plus” talc and graphite blend at a rate ofone cup (237ml) per 4 units of seed. Adjust until issue isresolved.

SprocketsAdjusting the seeding rate requires the following:

• adjusting drive speed range sprockets,

• adjusting transmission sprockets,

• preparing seed meters, and

• checking seeding rate.

Before setting the seeding rate, rotate the gaugewheels. Check that seed meters, seed tubes anddrives are working properly and free from foreignmaterial.

Drive Speed Range SprocketsSelect the correct drive speed range sprockets foryour seed by referring to Seed Rate Charts, be-ginning on 6.

Refer to Figure 1

Loosen idler plate (1) and remove chain. Removeretaining pins from shafts and install speed rangesprockets as necessary.

NOTE: Make sure the correct sprockets havebeen installed in the DRIVER and DRIVEN loca-tions as shown.

Reroute chain over sprockets and idlers asshown. Move idler into chain so chain has 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch slack in its longest span. Tightenidler and install retaining pins.

Set the same drive range sprocket combinationon both sides of drill.

Checking Seeding RateChecking Volumetric Seeding RateThe seed charts are based on cleaned seed and12.5 x 15, rib implement transport tires and 13 x5.00 - 6 contact drive wheel tires. Factors includ-ing foreign material, seed treatment, seed size, seed weight, field conditions and tire pressure willaffect seeding rate. Set and check the seedingrate, then readjust the rate as necessary.

1. Record the weight of an empty containerlarge enough to hold seed metered from threemeters for one acre.

2. Place several pounds of seed over three seedmeters on an outside end of the drill box.

NOTE: If drill box is full, shut off sliding seed tubesto all but three meters on an outside end.

Refer to Figure 3

3. Turn contact drive wheel clockwise a fewturns to fill meters with seed and until seeddrops to ground from all three openers.

4. Place a container under the three openers togather seed as it is metered.

5. Turn contact drive wheel clockwise 420 revo-lutions. Check to make sure seed tubes haveplenty of seed covering them.

6. Weigh measured seed. Subtract initial weightof empty container. Divide by three for theamount metered by each meter, then multiplyby the number of drill openers for the pounds-per-acre seeding rate.

7. If seeding rate is different than desired:

• Double check transmission sprocket anddrive range sprocket combinations.

• Check for meter malfunction.

• Check for correct seed meter wheel.

• Check that all three rows are getting seed.

• Refer to the troubleshooting guide in theoperator’s manual.

8. Readjust transmission and/or range sprock-ets and repeat test.

Checking Singulated Seeding RateThe seed charts are based on cleaned and sized seed.Extreme seed size variations, foreign material and tirepressure will affect the seeding rate. Check the seedpopulation rate as described below.

1. Adjust the planting depth to a shallow setting.

2. Plant at the desired planting speed for a short dis-tance.

3. Using the table, determine how many rows need tobe counted.

4. Measure a distance, according to the table, for therow spacing in the planted area.

5. Count the number of seeds, in the appropriate num-ber of rows, over the distance measured.

6. Multiply the number of seeds counted by 200 ifmeasuring for 1/200 acre or by 1,000 if measuringfor 1/1,000 acre. This is the plant population inseeds per acre.

Example 1:

If you have a 10" row spacing drill, three rows must becounted. Measure 17’ 5” and count the number of seedsin three rows. If the number is, for example, 180, multi-ply 180 by 1,000.

180 x 1,000 = 180,000 seeds per acre.

Example 2:

If you have a Twin Row 30" row spacing drill two rowsmust be counted. Measure 87’ 1” and count the numberof seeds in two rows. If the number is, for example, 170,multiply 170 by 200.

170 x 200 = 34,000 seeds per acre.

7. If the planting population is significantly different thandesired, make the following checks:

• Double check the transmission and range sprocketcombinations. Refer to the seed population chart forthe seed being planted.

• Check the air pressure in the gauge wheel tires. Re-fer to “Tire Inflation Chart” in the operator’s manual.

• Refer to the troubleshooting guide in the operator’smanual.

Seed Rate ChartsSeed rate charts begin on page 6. The charts give trans-mission sprocket combinations and drive range sprocketcombinations used to achieve desired population orpounds per acre for each row spacing. The charts alsogive seed spacing for singulated and volumetric seeds.

Small Seeds AttachmentTo set and calibrate the seeding rate on the op-tional small seeds attachment, follow thesesteps.

Set the seed-rate handle on the small seeds at-tachment as indicated by the Small Seeds RateChart, this page.

1. Set the range sprockets on both sides of thedrill to 15 driver and 60 driven.

2. Set the transmission sprockets on bothsides of the drill to 28 driver and 26 driven.

Small Seeds Attachment Seed Rate Charts (Pounds per acre)

Checking Volumetric Seeding RateThe seed charts are based on cleaned seed and11L x 15 rib implement tires and 13 x 5.00-6contact drive wheel tires. Factors including for-eign material, seed treatment, seed size, seedweight, field conditions and tire pressure will af-fect seeding rate. Set and check the seedingrate, then readjust the rate as necessary.

3. Record the weight of an empty containerlarge enough to hold seed metered fromthree cups for one acre.

4. Place several pounds of seed over threeseed cups on an outside end of the smallseeds box. Raise drill off the ground.

Great Plains Mfg., Inc. 33

Note: To avoid having to turn the drill meters dur-ing rate check, remove the four chains drivingthe meter shafts.

5. Remove hose ends from the openers of thethree seed cups being measured.

6. Turn contact wheel clockwise a few turns to fillcups with seed and until seed drops to groundfrom all three hoses.

7. Place a container under the three hoses togather seed as it is metered.

8. Turn contact wheel clockwise 420 revolutions.Check in box to make sure seed cups haveplenty of seed covering them.

9. Weigh measured seed. Subtract initial weightof empty container. Divide by three for theamount metered by each cup, then multiply bythe number of drill openers for the pounds-per-acre seeding rate.

10. If seeding rate is different than desired:

• Double check transmission sprocket anddrive range sprocket combinations.

• Check to be sure all three seed cups are cov-ered with seed.

• Adjust seed-rate handle accordingly.

11. When finished reconnect seed hoses to op-ners.

MicrobandChecking Application RateThe Microband charts are based on ideal condi-tions. Factors including, but not limited to,changing chemical formulas, field conditions andtire pressure will affect application rate. Set themicroband sprockets according to the desiredrate. Check the application rate, then readjust therate as necessary.

Refer to Figure 4

1. To avoid running the seed meters, take off therange chains on both ends of the drill.

2. Record the weight of an empty containerlarge enough to hold chemical metered fromone hopper for one acre.

3. Place several pounds of chemical over thechemical rotors in an outside hopper. Raisedrill off ground.

4. Remove hose ends from the openers of thechemical outlets of the hopper being mea-sured.

Refer to Figure 5

5. Turn contact wheel clockwise a few turns to fillrotors with chemical and until chemical dropsto ground from all hoses being tested.

6. Place the weighed container under the hosesto gather chemical as it is metered.

7. Turn contact wheel clockwise 420 revolutions.Check the hopper to make sure chemical ro-tors have plenty of chemical covering them.

8. Weigh measured chemical. Subtract initialweight of empty container. Divide by two for atwo rotor hopper or three for a three rotor hop-per, then multiply by the number of insecticidehoses for the pounds-per-acre applicationrate.

9. If application rate is different than desired:

• Check to be sure all chemical rotors beingmeasured are covered with chemical.

• Adjust sprocket combination to match desiredresults.

10. When finished reconnect chemical hoses toopeners.

Note: It is not recommended to use chemicalwhich uses a corn cob base because of the ten-dency of plugging, or sand base which causespremature rotor wear.
