Job Aid: Business Case for Private Sector Engagement PowerPoint
Audience: private sector company representatives
Purpose: provide justification(s) to private sector companies on how their engagement in preparedness and response activities can be beneficial to their bottom line.

Directions for using and modifying this presentation: This PowerPoint presentation can be modified as much or as little as is necessary. The two sections most
amenable to modifications are:
1. Descriptions of Macroeconomic Costs of Recent Epidemics : a few outbreaks have been provided. Others can be added or substituted as necessary.
2. The Ebola Example: Ebola is used as a primary example of the impact of a large-scale outbreak on the private sector, but another large-scale outbreak specific to the region can be substituted.
Sources for these slides include: the World Bank, research studies, the US Centers for Disease Control, The World Health Organization, African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, and The Economist.
‘Transmission Risk’ lists out how the disease is transmitted along with
how common transmission is, and
how deadly the disease may be.
List out the numbers of cases, deaths (human), and costs to the
region.
‘Snapshot’ offers key facts about the
disease or outbreak.
Lastly, there are talking points for most slides in the notes section. To print these alongside the slide, go to File, then Print and choose ‘Notes pages.’
Include macroeconomic costs such as effects on GDP, fiscal deficits
caused by outbreaks, and effects on key sectors of the economy.
Including graphics, where possibly, helps explain the key points, but
also keeps the audience engaged.

The case studies are built on research into specific private sector companies, and their responses to a specific outbreak.
Include what industry the company works in, and what their response was to a
specific outbreak, and how it affected their bottom line.
If available, illustrative quotes can be included to highlight key points.
