Social development program, Dancing Classrooms, is a 10 week – 20 session (we meet with students 2/week) program. Schools have their choice of our 3 Terms/School Year (Fall, Winter, Spring). The focus is on building social awareness, confidence, self-‐esteem and respect for themselves and others. There is also a large curriculum component (heavy emphasis on Language Arts) that is implemented through a Student Journal that each child receives and completes throughout their residency. The final lesson (#20) concludes with a Culminating Event (assembly) for the students’ families, other students within the building, and the surrounding community where the students display their elegant behaviors, dances learned, and present a selection of their curriculum pieces developed.
The program is implemented through a 10 week – 20 session
residency. Our organization meets with the students 2/week for 45 minutes over the
course of 10 weeks. The classroom teacher is an active participant and there is also a large
curriculum component to the program that is
implemented through our student journal each
child receives and completes.
Program is only implemented with 5th or 8th graders. Need an
uninterrupted space for each lesson (does NOT have to be the gym). Most classes are held within the students’ classroom (desks are
moved to the perimeter). A teacher (classroom or “specials”) must be
present in each lesson with their students
Fits within, and meets the needs, of all
school designs.

Dufour: RTI at Work
April 29–May 1, 2014 Toronto, Canada
What does successful response to intervention look like when all the pieces come together? The underlying premise of RTI is that schools should not delay providing help for struggling students until they fall far enough behind to qualify for special education, but instead should provide timely, targeted, and systematic interventions to all students who demonstrate the need. With unprecedented access to recognized experts who have successfully implemented RTI in a variety of settings—often with limited personnel and dwindling resources—you will learn how to create a tiered system of support, that includes: Tier 1 core instruction that ensures all students have access to rigorous essential grade-‐level curriculum, highly effective teaching, and embedded academic/behavior support. Tier 2 supplemental interventions that support students in grade-‐level curriculum, immediate prerequisite skills, and academic/social behavior expectations. Tier 3 intensive interventions that develop foundational prerequisite academic skills (reading, number sense, writing, and English language) and behaviors without removing students from essential grade-‐level curriculum.
