STYLIST TRAINING :

As a TONI&GUY and essensuals in-salon Staff Trainer, you will already be a key and established member within the team. As Staff Trainer you are responsible for the growth and development of the next generation of Stylists, to guide, support, encourage and motivate students as well as acting as a mentor to the junior team members.

To ensure that the TONI&GUY and essensuals education standards are constantly updated and

maintained throughout the UK, it is vital that the Staff Trainer attends all Area Network Training

meetings and attains the TONI&GUY and essensuals Staff Trainer Diploma – by attending Art Team

training group two. This will enable the Staff Trainer to strengthen and develop their skills, as they

are responsible for developing the next generation of Stylists, which in turn, will secure our future

success.

A thorough understanding of TONI&GUY’s unique terminology is essential for any TONI&GUY or essensuals stylist.

CUTTINGSYSTEM:Terminology is broken down into four key points:

PARTINGS&SECTIONS:Describes how the hair is separated prior to cutting. The seven parting & sectioning terms are:

PROFILE CENTRE FOREHEAD TO CENTRE NAPE

HORSESHOE: RECESION TO RECESSION

HORIZONTAL: PARALLEL TO THE HORIZON

DIAGONAL FORWARD: ANGLES FORWARD TOWARDS THE FACE

DIAGONAL BACK: ANGLES BACKWARD AWAY FROM THE FACE

RADIAL: CROWN TO HAIRLINE

PIVOTING: ROTATING FROM A CENTRAL POINT

DISTRIBUTION:Describes how the hair is combed in relation to the parting or section. The four distribution terms

are:

NATURAL FALL: COMBED WITH GRAVITY

OVERDIRECTED: ANYTHING OTHER THAN NATURAL FALL

‘T’ TO THE PARTING: PERPENDICULAR TO THE PARTING

90: PERPENDICULAR TO THE HEAD

ELEVATION:Describes the level at which the hair is lifted away from the head. The four terms to describe

elevation are:

0° IN THE COMB: NO ELEVATION

1 FINGERS DEPTH: SLIGHT ELEVATION

45°: MIDWAYBETWEEN0°AND90°(GRADUATION)

90°: PERPENDICULAR TO THE HEAD

CUT:Describes the shape of the line being cut. The five terms to describe the line of cut are:

SQUARE: A HORIZONTAL LINE

VISUAL: A VARIABLE LINE

PARALLEL: A LINE MAINTAINING EQUAL DISTANCE FROM THE PARTING

e: [email protected]

1STYEAR–COURSEBREAKDOWNAssessments are ongoing throughout the whole period of time a student is undergoing their NVQ

Training.

Throughout the 1st Year of Training for NVQ, all of the theory is delivered for all nine units which make

up the NVQ. This will also cover the practical techniques including a total of eight haircuts and eight

styling assessments.

Assessments which can be carried out in the 1st Year can include:

Cuts: One Length, Forward Graduation, Square Layers

Styling: Vertical Roll, Wet Set, Dry Set, Round Brush, Diffuse

2NDYEAR–COURSEBREAKDOWNWorkshops take place mainly throughout this final stage and as many assessments are completed to

achieve all outstanding units. All written work is also completed in this time.

A consultation sheet and head sheet is required for each assessment model.

TONI&GUYSPECIFICREQUIREMENTS.Whilst the NVQ training runs alongside our in-house training programme, NVQ is not the only

requirement for our assistants. The Staff Trainer is responsible for ensuring that ALL TONI&GUY &

the assistant to have a thorough understanding of all techniques.

in assessing whether an assistant is ready to complete the Pre-Vardering assessment. Particular

attention should be given to the more complex elements of the Future Classics and would ideally

include focusing on the transient, precision and men’s scissor over comb techniques.

The mini-vardering presentation is also an ideal opportunity to ensure that assistants have a

thorough understanding of TONI&GUY philosophy and terminology.

A presentation required for all assistants prior to entering the pre-vardering programme. To be

personallyassessedbytheFranchisee/SalonArtisticDirector/StaffTrainer–toensurethatstudents

The Pre-Vardering training programme was introduced to ensure the level of education in-salon was raised to a higher standard before Assistants progress to the Vardering Programme.

This course will allow the student to familiarise themselves with the Academy environment, and pose any questions that they may have prior to the intensive Vardering programme. It will also help them to improve and strengthen their techniques, correct any bad habits and ensure that they have the confidence needed to get the most out of the Vardering process.

A compulsory requirement prior to Vardering, Pre-Vardering is a three day Training Assessment course which runs Wednesday through to Friday and is free of charge to all Franchisees. On the final day(Friday)aProgressReportwillbecompletedtoassessthetrainees’progressandability, whichwill determine whether the Assistant is ready to commence on the Vardering Programme.

In the event of your assistant not reaching the level required to join the Vardering Programme, there are two options which can be followed. The first is for the assistant to attend the Academy for further training; this will be charged at a rate of £30 per day, per assistant. The second option being for your in-salon Staff Trainer to give your assistant in-house training before returning to the Academy for a further one day training Assessment.

Pre vardering ensures that perspective stylists enter the Vardering programme with the correct skill set needed to complete this challenging course. The key focus of the Vardering programme is ‘polish’, not to teach techniques, but to motivate the hairdresser to seek perfection in their work. An unprepared student will not only be unable to complete the course but could also find the process overly challenging and de-motivating.

By maintaining this high standard of entry requirement to the Vardering programme we ensure that all stylists that graduate are able to offer a consistently high standard of hairdressing - safe guarding the TONI&GUY & essensuals brand and the standard of hairdressing within your individual salon.

ART TEAM TRAINING :CREATIVE CLUB OVERVIEW (PREVIOUSLY GROUP 1)

The Creative Club is for stylists and technicians who want motivation and inspiration. Creative club gives you all the information on Creative projects which TONI&GUY are involved in and allows you to put them into practise through workshops. The subjects covered are as follows :

• Insight into the lastest creative cut and colour collections • Creative/ progressive demos • London Fashion Week previews Autumn/ Winter - Spring/ Summer and long hair demos and workshops• Avant Garde • label.m education

This is also a stepping stone for those who eventually would like to get involved with education in their salon. To progress, you will need to commit and attend Art team regularly and eventually move to Creative Education. Otherwise, you can choose which subjects interests and motivates you whether it is LFW, label.m, Collections etc and choose which day you would like to attend.

To be eligible to attend Creative Club you will need to complete the vardering program. Once you have completed the vardering program, if you pass with a distinction you can attend straight away, if you do not pass with a distinction you need to work 6 months in the salon prior to joining.

CREATIVE EDUCATION OVERVIEW (PREVIOUSLY GROUP 2&3)

COURSE LEADERS : RICHARD MANNAH, FRANCESCO FONTANA & JO O’NEILL

RE-FORMATTED GROUP FRANCHISE VISITS!

With the help from your RBM’s, we have grouped the national franchise salons into 45 regions. A host salon has been selected which will accommodate the number of salons in each group.

Each region will receive 2 seminar visits per year from 3 International Art Directors. They will demonstrate 2 cuts and colors from the current creative collection as well as 2 editorial looks, one as seen at London Fashion Week and 2 a client friendly ready to wear hair up.
