China’s Geography• Huang He, or Yellow River, flows more than

2,900 miles across China. • Flooding of the River brought destruction

and good farming conditions. • Chang Jiang, or Yangtze River, is about 3,400

The Shang Dynasty• Ruled from 1750 B.C. to 1122 B.C. • Anyang was China’s first Capital. • People were divided into groups. King –

Warlords & Royal Officials (Aristocrats) – Traders & Artisans -- Farmers & Slaves.

The Zhou Dynasty• Wu Wang and his followers rebelled against

the Shang and created the Zhou Dynasty.• Longest ruling dynasty in China. • Kings served as heads of Government. • Bureaucracy – officials who are responsible

for different areas of government. • The Empire was divided into smaller

territories led by an aristocrat.
