History & Citizenship Education Evaluation Framework (as seen in the class outline)

History & Citizenship Education - Tools to help students succeed

● In class notes/PowerPoints (fill in the blank notes) ● Class website to support in class lessons:

www.oneillshistory.weebly.com ● Regular historical document analysis in class ● Class workbook- ‘Reflections: 1840 to Our Times’

used to support lessons (students should be reading at home)

History & Citizenship Education - Tools to help students succeed

● In class activity sheets that replicate MEES exam questions

● Quizzes, pop quizzes and chapter tests that replicate the MEES exam (short answer, diagram question and essay question)

● Support from teacher: by email or in person (email to set up time is best)

History & Citizenship Education – Student Skills needed ● Literacy: If a student struggles to read (either to

decode words or comprehension), I highly recommend practice at home newspaper/magazine articles and discussion

● Historical context thinking: Keeping in mind the historical context “Why didn’t they just use an IPhone…?” a question I hear a lot every year

● Study skills: making sure notes are kept up with and student is re-reading the notes for comprehension

● Grade 10 course ● Approximately 10 classes per term (less if

history takes more time) ● NO MEES EXAM ● Focus on ethical issues and religious culture(s) ● Topics are chosen by teacher each term

○ May be a combination of religious culture & ethics

Ethics & Religious Culture & Objectives and

Course description

● Each term will be evaluated in a similar way (dependent on time spent): ○ 40%-50% for assignments/quizzes ○ 30% for in class participation ○ 20%-30% for a ‘mini’ project

● Effort plays a big part - if a student puts in the effort and hands in all assignments (completed and with effort), he/she will be able to succeed
