Our Mission Statement
The Parish of the Holy Name of Jesus is a vibrant urban ministry in the Roman Catholic Church within the
Franciscan tradition. In our rich diversity of cultures and languages, we seek to be open to God’s spirit so
that we might grow in the faith that makes us one and give witness to the presence of Christ in our daily
lives. As instruments of God’s peace, we reach out to and welcome all people with a special concern for
the poor, the alienated, and the immigrant. We do this through worship, education, and outreach in fulfilling
our dream that all might be served in the spirit of St. Francis.
La paroisse de Holy Name est une vibrante communauté urbaine et catholique, animée par la Congréga-
tion Franciscaine. Sa grande diversité culturelle et linguistique lui permet de toucher différents groupes eth-
niques, et de leur dispenser la foi divine et Chrétienne qui se réflete dans leur vie quotidienne. Et comme
instruments de la paix préconisée par Dieu, les paroissiens de Holy Name cherchent et accueillent tous les
frères et particulièrement les pauvres, les inadaptés les laissés pour compte et les immigrants. Nous ac-

LENTEN VESPERS CONTINUES
Lenten Vespers 2016 continues
this coming Tuesday evening, February
23 at 6:30 in the Lower Chapel and continues on
the following three Tuesdays, March 1, 8 and 15 (a
Reconciliation Service).
The overall theme of the Series is MERCY: THE
KEY TO LIVING AS CHRISTIANS. Lori Hoff-
man, a Holy Name of Jesus parishioner, will offer
the Reflection on "An Experience of Mercy: a Re-
flection on the Book of Ruth."
The Flyer in the vestibule provides the details about
the Vespers, the Lenten Suppers and the Reflections
for this Series sponsored by the Adult Faith Forma-
tion Committee.

RITE OF CALLING
CANDIDATES TO CONTINUING
CONVERSION
Today, Feb 21st, 2016, Cardinal Dolan will celebrate the Rite
of Calling Candidates to Continuing Conversion at the Cathe-dral of St. Patrick. These candidates, already baptized, have
been preparing to complete their Sacraments of Initiation by
being confirmed and receiving First Eucharist at the Easter
Vigil on March 26th, 2016.
During this ceremony at the cathedral the candidates are pre-
sented to Cardinal Dolan. Their sponsors and the community
present attest to their desire to participate fully in the sacra-
mental life of the Church.
The Holy Name of Jesus community congratulates our twelve
candidates! May they may come to a deeper appreciation of
their baptism into Christ’s death and resurrection. We pray that all of us have hearts open to the promptings of God’s
Holy Spirit and that our Lenten journey toward the glory of Easter be blessed with the graces of perseverance and generous
love.
Our deepest sympathy is ex-
tended to the families of those
who passed away, especially
Angelica Ojeda and Gardell
Fields. Please join us in praying that their souls and the souls
of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, may rest
in peace now and forever.

SAVE THE DATE – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Saturday, April 2nd – 9:00am
The combined communities of Holy Name of Jesus and St. Gregory the Great are sponsoring a Helping
Hands Event on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 9:00am to package meals for vulnerable people in Burkina Faso. We need to
raise money and secure volunteers to make this a successful Lenten Project. This project fits the social justice mission of The
Church. Please take a flyer from the vestibule to get detailed information on the project. Throughout Lent, checks can be
made to Holy Name Church with Helping Hands written on the memo line or cash in an envelope marked with Helping
Hands on the outside can be dropped in the collection or at the parish office. You may also charge your donations or volun-
teer on line by going to the website helpinghands.crs.org and click on Register for your event. Helping Hands Events are
listed by month. Go to April and find Holy Name to donate or volunteer.

2016 Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal The Cardinal’s Annual Appeal has begun! During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are called to help on another and be merciful, as Jesus is for all of us. Many of you have received a letter from Cardinal Dolan asking for your support. When you receive your letter, please fill out your pledge card and send it in. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. We will have our commitment so-licitation the week of March 12th and 13th.

My Name is Rachel Corrie” chronicles the life of a determined, imaginative young woman who, in 2003, traveled to Gaza with the International Solidar-ity Movement to defend Palestinian homes and water re-sources from being demolished. Reflections on Laudato Si’:
On Care for our Common Home. Please join us for one of two evenings with Fr. Sean McDonagh, renown eco-theologian and consultant to Pope Francis on Laudato Si′ . The evenings will include reflections on climate change and the environment, with a candid look at impacts to our world and humanity, and the great challenges we face ahead.

Le Comité de la Formation de la Foi pour Adultes annonce le
début de la saison des Vêpres du Carême 2016. Les Vêpres du
Carême auront lieu MARDI SOIR Le 23 février. Pour le mois
de mars les dates sont : le 1er, 8, et 15 dans la Chapelle St. Ma-
ry of the Angels de 6h30 à 8:30 suivis d’un repas simple et
une période de méditations.

l’aide des bénévoles pour faire de ce projet un succès de Carê-me. Ce projet s’inscrit dans la mission de justice sociale de
l’Eglise. S’il vous plait prendre un dépliant au vestibule pour

paña de Corresponsabilidad del Cardenal 2016. Recibirán una
carta del Cardenal Dolan solicitando su apoyo para los minis-terios, programas y servicios vitals que la Campaña prove to-dos los años. Cuando recíba la carta, por favor complete la
tarjeta de promesa y envíela. Su generosidad sera profunda-
mente apreciada. Nuestra semana de compromise sera 12 y13

La comunidad de “Holy Name of Jesus” y San Gregorio el
Grande están organizando y patrocinando un evento impor-tante: “Helping Hands” (Manos Generosas ) para el 2 de abril,
2016. Esto requiere empaquetar comida para las personas más
vulnerables de Burkina Faso (Africa). Necesitamos recaudar dinero, reclutar voluntarios/as para ayudar y quizás hacer de
esto su proyecto de cuaresma. Este proyecto se ajusta a la mi-sión de “Justicia Social” de la Iglesia. Para obtener informa-
ción más detallada, puede Ud. tomar un volante en el vestibu-
lo de la iglesia. Si desea enviar un cheque hágalo al nombre de Holy Name Church y escriba en el memo “Helping
