UPCOMING EVENTS

PARISH BREAKFAST: Join us for yummy food and fellowship at the monthly parish breakfast following the 9am Mass today in Fr. Kelly Parish Hall. $6/person. All are welcome!

"We are pebbles on the ground in this land of pain, tragedy, but with faith in the risen Christ we have a purpose, in the midst of so many calamities, we can look ahead. Look there is no wall, there is a hori-zon, there is life, joy ..." Taking everyone by surprise, Pope Francis pronounced an unprompted homily during this Easter morning Mass, which traditionally ends with the Pope’s message Urbi et Orbi. "Today the Church sings, cries, Jesus is risen! – Bergoglio said - Peter, John and the women went to the tomb and it was emp-ty! He was not there! And they left with their hearts closed by sad-ness, the sadness of defeat. Their teacher, their master, the one they loved so much, was executed, he was dead. And one can’t come back from the death. This is the defeat, the way towards defeat, the way of the sepulchre." "But the angel - the Pope continued - tells them, He is not here, He is risen! It is the first announcement: He is risen! And then the confusion, the closed hearts, the appearances... But they had been hiding the whole day, because they were afraid that what hap-pened to Jesus would have happened to them as well. And the Church never cease to tell our defeats, our closed and fearful hearts to stop, the Lord is risen!" The cross, the Pope explained, "go on, with faith in Jesus. The Church today continues to say: stop! Jesus is risen! And this is no fantasy, Jesus’ resurrection is not just a celebration with lots of flowers - this is beautiful - but there is more. It is the mystery of the rejected stone that ends up being the foundation of our existence. Christ is risen. In t his culture of waste where what is not needed is then thrown away, it means that the rejected stone is the source of our life, it’s us." "We are pebbles laying on the ground of this land of pain and tragedy. With faith in the risen Christ we however, have a pur-pose in the midst of so many calamities, we can look beyond… Look! There is no wall, there is a horizon, there is life and joy; there it is, the cross with its ambivalence. Look ahead, do not close your-self. You, little rock have a purpose in this life because you are a pebble next to that stone that the wickedness of sin has discarded. What does the Church say today in front of so many tragedies? This, simply. The rejected stone was not really rejected, the pebbles that believe and stick to that stone should not be discarded, they have a purpose and the Church repeats this sentiment from the bottom of her heart: Christ is risen." "Let us think a little about each of us,” Francis said, about our daily problems, our diseases or that experienced by someone close to us, about wars and human tragedies. And with simplicity, and a humble voice, without any flowers, just before God and our-selves – I do not know how this will go, but I am sure that Christ is risen, and I bet on this! Brothers and sisters, this is what I wish to tell you, go back home repeating in your hearts that Christ is risen.”
