PURPOSE
To allocate a broad-based subject
combination that matches your ability and passion
so as to enable your child to
optimise his/her performance at ‘O’ levels
and
progress to a course of choice in JC / Polytechnic
‘O’ Level Requirements
for Post-Secondary
Options
To qualify for JC
• L1R5 has to be 20 or better
• To qualify for a JC of your choice, L1R5 should be much better than 20
Example : SRJC’s cut-off for 2014 intake is 11AJC’s cut-off for 2014 intake is 8
• Students should aim for B3 or better in all their subjects
* To qualify for MI, L1R4 has to be 20 or better
To qualify for Poly• ELR2B2 (i.e. EL + 2 Relevant Subjects + 2 Best
Subjects) must be 26 or better • To qualify for a poly course of your choice, ELR2B2
should be much better than 26. • An aggregate of 15 or less (i.e. B3 or better in all
their subjects) would ensure that students can qualify for most courses offered by Polytechnic.
*Relevant Subjects depend on the type of courses (A, B, C, D); Cut-off
aggregate varies from course to course depending on popularity and places available. Please refer to details posted at poly websites.

PPHY / PBIO combination
Pupils opting for this combination must be strong in Mathematics and Science and have a very good L1R5 aggregate.
MPOA combination
Pupils opting for this combination must be strong in Mathematics and have a good L1R5 aggregate
LPOA combination
Pupils opting for this combination must be strong in English Language and English Literature. They should also achieve a good L1R5 aggregate.
6-P combination
More periods are allocated to each subject for this combination
SUBJECT COMBINATION OPTION FORM
Pointers to bear in mind when selecting subject combination
• Not about the number of subjects that the student takes but how well he/she performs in his/her best 6 subjects (including L1) that will decide on whether he/she qualifies for JC/Polytechnic
• select a subject combination according to your strength so that you can excel and move on to a JC/Polytechnic Course of choice
SUBJECT COMBINATION ALLOCATION PROCESS
• Indicate the order of choice (1-5) when opting for subject combinations
• The school will look at every student’s performance and indicate on the subject combination form, the subject combination that he/she is most suited for.
• Together with your parents, you are encouraged to take school’s recommendation into consideration when you make your selection.
SUBJECT COMBINATION ALLOCATION PROCESS
• In the allocation of subject combination, the school will take into consideration: Your preference Your ability and strengths School’s resources Critical mass of at least 20
• For Combined Humanities, the elective (Geo/Hist) that is preferred by the majority selecting that combination will be offered
