Seawork 2013 will incorporate amajor feature recording 50 years of the RIB from its conception to the host of applications employed today across all sectors of the marine industry.

In the early '60s, at Atlantic Collegein South Wales, Rear-Admiral Desmond JHoare and his students replaced thedamaged floor of a 3.7m inflatable witha plywood sheet. Concurrently, theRNLI, quick to realise the potential ofinflatables, was working independentlyon a ply-bottomed vessel to overcomethe wear and tear of inshore rescuemissions. The RIB was born.
