Depending on their main activity and lifestyle, people need to choose from a wide variety of winter coats, from casual to luxurious. Below is a list of the most commonly used materials in winter coats:1. Materials of natural provenience Leather Fur Feathers Wool

2. Materials of synthetic provenience Faux fur Polyester Nylon Spandex Gore-TexLeather is a very popular material used in producing winter coats. This material is suitable for both womens winter coats and mens winter coats. Usually having a dark color (brown, black) or a natural light brown color, leather is a comfortable waterproof material suitable to wear at work or when running any errands. A modern leather jacket design is the doma leather jacket that has revolutionized the jackets design with an asymmetrical zipper closing system and high collars.Although leather is a slightly thin material, it also comes in an updated version, fur included, for colder days. Hence, you have sheepskin suede waistcoats with a fur inner lining.

Fur is also a popular fabric for winter coats, especially for womens winter coats. These coats come in different sizes from waistcoats to ankle-long coats. The 60s fashion came up with fur capes (Marilyn Monroe style), and cloaks, which have managed to resist in popularity until now, without becoming out of date. These cloaks and cape are the ultimate coats in terms of elegancy and luxury. Also related to fur, penguin feathers are used for the inner lining of waterproof thick jackets. Girls winter coats and boys winter coats are often made from this material to be worn during snowy days. Also adults often wear them when going to the snowy mountainside.

Wool is widely spread as winter coats material. A woolen coat is very elegant and gives the wearer a stylish and respectful aura. It can be worn over mens costumes or womens fine dresses. It is shaped from classical to modern, with big pockets or no pockets, with cords, belts or without, and it usually closes up with big thick buttons. A woolen coat usually has a classical V-neck shaped collar but there are more modern models that improved that shape.

However, leather, fur and wool are materials of animal provenience, so there are many animal welfare institutions and supporters that militate against their use. For the animal lovers, there are always alternatives based on the usage of synthetic materials such as polyester, spandex or nylon. The synthetic winter coats have advantages of being available at lower prices, are more resistant in time and easier to maintain. Nylon is a waterproof and a stain-proof material. Spandex is a highly flexible material that prevents tearing it up. Also, synthetic coats are very lightweight and keep you warm in the same time.

If you are more into design than into material, then you can choose a uniquely designed coat from combining synthetic and organic materials such as patent leather or faux fur.

For the winter sports amateurs, theres an innovative material used in producing waterproof and breathable outwear. This material is called Gore-Tex, is very thin and lightweight, but also keeps you warm and dry during skiing or snowboarding.

Innovation rapidly moves on and, at the end of 2013, a scientist met an artist who created together the wearable solar fashion. They incorporated flexible solar panels into coats and other clothing items, so that you can recharge your phone wherever you are. Thinking about it, its not that bad of an idea because we all know phones use up more energy in colder days.

So, whether youre more of a practical person or more of an elegant one make sure you have the proper coat for any event that may occur in your life. Choose the coat that best represents you and remember that while walking down the street, the coat is the only thing that actually covers you. Dont forget to have unity in outfit and choose to feel warm over fashion.
