Wellington WindsFormed in 1981 and based in the Waterloo Region, the Wellington Winds is a concert band of Central Ontario’s finest musicians. Many are performing professionally or are music educators.
This is the Wellington Winds’ 31st season of outstanding, entertaining concerts that present varied programs of the best of familiar music and also new music that has appeal to a wide audience. The Winds concerts are known for their informal approach and enjoyable commentary. The Wellington Winds has released a number of CDs, including a studio-recorded CD of works by local composers, An Artist’s Neighbourhood.
In addition to their annual series, they have performed with the Grand Philhar monic Choir, at MusicFest Canada in Toronto, at the Guelph Spring Festival, as co-host of the Music Is For Life Symposium, in workshops for students, and for the Canadian Music Educators’ Conference.
Music DirectorDaniel Warren, Music Director of the Wellington Winds, is Resident Conductor and trumpet in the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Canadian Chamber Ensemble. He is in frequent demand as a guest conductor of orchestras across Canada. For a number of years Daniel has also been conductor of the Westben Arts Festival Theatre in Campbellford and of the Kitchener-Waterloo Community Orchestra.

Overtures to Bernstein’s Candide and Wagner’s Die Meistersinger and Herberman’s The Fisher Who Died in his Bed, Reed’s Hounds of Spring, Cable’s The Banks of Newfoundland, and Bolden’s 1828 St. John Overture. Mezzo Laura Pudwell joins the Winds for Four Early Songs by Alban Berg and Grub Street by Michael Purves-Smith.

Join with us and enjoy music of the Christmas Season performed by the Inter-Mennonite Children’s Choir and the Winds including Bell’s Magnificat and Rutter’s What Sweeter Music. Also The Cremation of Sam McGee by Michael Purves-Smith, Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus by Dave Arthur, Selections from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky and A Christmas Festival by Anderson. This concert will help raise funds for the Mennonite Central Committee.

Music from international composers including Dukas’ Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Milhaud’s Suite Francaise from France, Gassi’s Tsunami from Canada, Swearingen’s In All Its Glory from the United States, and Marquez’ Danzon #2 from Mexico. Olena Klyucharova will perform Prokofiev’s poetic and brilliant Piano Concerto No. 1 in this new transcription for piano and wind orchestra by Douglas McLain.

John Monkhouse will perform Arthur Pryor’s Blue Bells of Scotland and Jim Edwards will perform John Hartmann’s La Belle Americaine.
