ON THE ICE• Omaha finished its 18th season with a record of 18-17-1 and 8-15-1-0/0 in the NCHC, good for sixth place.• UNO concluded its season with a 4-3 double OT loss to Denver in the first round of the NCHC Playoffs.• The Mavericks opened Baxter Arena, their first on-campus home, on Oct. 23 against Air Force.• For the first time in school history, the Mavericks were ranked No. 1 in one of the two major college hockey polls, occupying that spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll during the week of Oct. 26.• The Mavericks were 10-0-0 in non-conference games, the first perfect non-conference mark in school history.• The Mavericks posted the best first half record in program history with a mark of 14-3-1 before Christmas.• Junior Jake Guentzel was UNO’s leading scorer for the second straight year with a career-high 46 points. He also led the Mavericks with 26 assists and had a career-best 19 goals.• Junior Austin Ortega led the Mavericks with a career-high 21 goals and was second in scoring with 36 points. • Ortega tied for the national lead with eight game winners, the second straight year he led the NCAA. He begins the 2016-17 season three game-winners from tying the NCAA record.• Fredrik Olofsson led all Maverick rookies in scoring with 17 points, a total that included eight goals which also led all UNO freshmen.• Sophomore Tyler Vesel was second on the team with 60 blocked shots, a total that ranked third-best in the NCAA for forwards. Senior Brian Cooper led the team with 64 blocks and had a team-best +7 rating.• Freshman Evan Weninger led the Mavericks with a record of 13-8-0, a 2.46 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. He earned his first career shutout in his first career start, a 40-save effort in a 2-0 win at Minnesota State. It made him the first Omaha goaltender to earn a shutout in his collegiate debut.• Guentzel was named to the NCHC All-Conference Second Team while Weninger was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team.• The Mavericks earned eight weekly honors from the NCHC. In addition, Weninger was the NCHC Player of the Month for November.

IN THE CLASSROOM• All 25 players were named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, the most of any school. In addition, 12 players were named Scholar-Athletes for posting GPAs of 3.5 or better.• Eleven Mavericks made the Dean’s List and one made the Chancellor’s List in the fall. In the spring, 11 made the Dean’s List and two made the Chancellor’s List to help the program achieve the highest men’s team GPA at 3.52.

Jake Guentzel led the Mavericks in scoring for the second straight season, earning 46 points and a spot on the NCHC All-Conference Second Team.

The Mavericks played the inaugural game at Baxter Arena on Friday, Oct. 23, a 4-2 win over Air Force in front of a sellout crowd of 7,898.
