PREPARATION1. Seal the entire ornaments with Multi-Purpose Sealer; using the glaze wash brush.

Lightly sand; wipe off with a lint-free cloth.

Image Transfer2. Cut six pieces out of the collage paper that will fi t the front and back sides of the three ornament shapes. Set the images aside, basecoat the surface and back side areas where the images will be trans-ferred with one coat of Spa Blue; using the ¾ glaze wash brush When dry, lightly sand; wipe off with a lint-free cloth.

Apply a generous coat of the Image Transfer Medium to one of the surface areas and the appropriate shape of the paper, brush out medium to eliminate ridges. Lay the image face down and fl at on the surface into the Medium, pressing fi rmly. Rolling a bottle of paint over the image will help or use a brayer. Repeat steps with remaining ornaments. I have found to achieve a better image transfer, I allow the transfer to dry overnight.

When dry, use a wet Blue Shop Towel over the im-age to gently scrub away the paper, until the image begins to show clearly. Then switch to using your fi ngers for the remaining fi bers. If you are not sure that you have removed all of the paper, let it dry for a few minutes, any remaining paper on the image will show as fuzz. Remoisten the image and rub it away. Allow to dry.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONSStenciling Background3. Position the Speckles stencil to an ornament surface, secure with the Frog Tape, stencil adhesive or hold with your fi ngers.

Load the medium stencil brush with a bit of Country Blue, swirl the brush on a Blue Shop Towel to remove excess. Apply color in a circular motion one direction and then in a circular motion in the other direction (changing directions frequently) over the stencil. Fill in some of the design fully and leave other areas incom-plete or skip a few areas all together.

When completed, this application should have a slight distressed appearance. If it is too solid or perfect, sim-ply use a moist piece of the blue shop towel with the Faux Glazing Medium, to gently rub away some of the excess color.

Carefully remove stencil by holding one end with your fi ngers and lifting the opposite end. Repeat steps to stencil the remaining ornaments on both sides. Clean stencil and brush immediately with the brush and sten-cil cleaner.

Lightly mist over the surface areas of the ornaments with the matte spray.

Transfer designs to the appropriate ornament surfaces. To aid in the transfer of any straight lines, drag the sty-lus along the ruler’s edge.

    Shells4. Basecoat with the appropriate size shaders:• Terra Coral—scallop shell• Camel—starfi sh

liner with Cadmium Red + a little Rookwood Red, pull the detail lines on the shell. Corner load the angle with thinned Camel, fl oat a tint on the shell; mop to soften. Refer to photo for placement. With the 5/0 liner and Snow White, pull the highlight stroke along the top right edge of the shell.

Corner load the angle with Milk Chocolate, fl oat shad-ing along the edge of the starfi sh and the ‘c’ stroke dimples on the shell. Then corner load the angle with thinned Terra Coral, fl oat a tint on the starfi sh; mop to soften. Refer to photo for placement. With the 5/0 liner and Snow White, pull the highlight stroke at the top of the starfi sh.

    Lighthouse5. Basecoat with the appropriate size shaders:• Warm White—tower, structure wall• Lamp Black—roofs, watch room• Camel—lens

For a bit of shade, lightly wash over the wall of the structure with Country Blue; using the 4 shader. Corner load the angle with Country Blue, fl oat a wide shade down the right side of the tower. Corner load the angle with thinned Camel, fl oat a tint on the top left of the lighthouse tower and both roofs. With the 2 shader and Graphite, pull the windows. Then with the 5/0 liner and Warm White, pull the window panes. With the 5/0 liner and Graphite, pull the lens room panes, walkway base, a dip dot for the ventilator ball and a line up from the ball for the lightning rod.

Snowman6. Following the label on the Texture Sand Paste, apply over the snowman; using the palette knife. Allow to dry.

Basecoat with the appropriate size shaders:• Burlap—snowman• Pebble—palm tree trunk

With the 5/0 liner and Espresso, pull the detail lines on the trunk of the palm tree. Corner load the angle with Espresso, fl oat shading down the left side of the trunk. Corner load the angle with Warm White, fl oat a high-light down the right side of the trunk.

Corner load the angle with Espresso, fl oat shading down the right side of the snowman and the ‘c’ stroke arm inset. Corner load the angle with thinned Camel, fl oat a tint down the left side of the snowman. With the 5/0 liner and Espresso, pull the twig arm. Double load the 5/0 liner with Camel + Cadmium Red, brush blend on your palette, pull the nose.

Palm Tree Fronds7. With the 0 liner and Plantation Pine, pull the strokes to create the fronds on the palm tree and on the other two ornaments. Repeat step by randomly pulling

strokes of Plantation Pine over the fronds; to deepen.

With the stylus and Cadmium Red, randomly place dots on the fronds for ornaments. Repeat step with Camel for yellow ornaments. When dry, lightly brush over the ornaments with 24K Gold. With the 5/0 liner and 24K Gold, pull a slight line up from the ornaments, for the hooks.

Sand Groundwork8. Corner load the angle with Pebble, randomly chisel fl oat* over the ground areas. Randomly apply Texture Sand Paste over the ground areas. Allow to dry. When dry, corner load the angle with Pebble, randomly chisel fl oat* over the Texture Sand.

*chisel fl oat by corner loading the angle, blend off on your palette, lay the hairs of the brush fl at on the sur-face, chisel edge up. Push the paint on the hairs from left to right in a scratching motion, allowing the hairs to pull a broken line that is slightly fl oated.

Seas and Greetings9. Cut the words "Seas and Greetings" out with the paper edging scissors or tear the paper; just so that the edges have something besides a straight edge.

Corner load the angle with Espresso, fl oat a shade across the bottom of each strip of paper; to age. Then with the Decou-page, adhere the strips of paper to the appropriate ornament; refer to photo for placement. When dry, brush across the strips of paper with the Decou-page.

Finishing Touches10. Basecoat the caps and side edges of the ornaments with Country Blue; using the 12 shader, to achieve an opaque coverage.

FINISHING11. To protect your painted piece, varnish the entire ornaments with the DuraClear Matte Varnish; using the Oval Wash Combo brush.

This brush doesn’t leave any brushstroke marks after the varnish has dried.
