The Saharan Great Green Wall is a 15km wide, and up to 8,000km long green wall of trees and bushes. It is located just south of the Sahara, from Djibouti in the Horn of Africa in the east all the way across 11 countries to Dakar, Senegal, in the west. It is aimed at limiting the desertification of the Sahel zone. Other than stopping desertification and erosion, the wall would protect water sources, such as Lake Chad, which has been drying up for decades. In addition, the wall would provide energy resources; fruit, vegetables and other foodstuffs; supporting local economic development; and even political stability in the whole region.
A proposed 622mW nuclear recycling facility on the coast of Nigeria will power a desalination plant while also providing electricity to the grid. This water will be pumped by large solar “flowers” that will also provide the surrounding areas with a sustainable, reliable energy source. The aim of the project is to create a system of fresh water and electricity that will pull people out of city slums and back to the arable land that they have been forced from due to desertification. This will follow the route of the Great Green Wall to halt desertification.
Thousands of African people will be able to be supported by one solar “flower” allowing rural communities to form in areas currently desertified. A small amount of the energy generated by the towers will be used to continue the flow of water along the pipeline using a pump system. This will also pump water into irrigation systems allowing farmers to grow crops and trees, diversifying their income and giving more economic stability. This will mean farmers will be able to sell more produce and with less food aid it will mean that agriculture will quickly expand creating self sustainable communities.

The mass amounts of waste stored worldwide, the understanding of the long term low-level effects of radiation on the biosphere and the education of the public on the nuclear industry are the key issues that will be addressed in the project.
The building will combine the industrial process of waste management and reuse, research of long term radiation effects and improvements in the nuclear cycle. An educational facility for the public will increase the knowledge and reduce the fears and scepticism people have about the industry. The public - industry relationship has been explored by placing the industrial working parts of the building underground, with the public park situated on the top giving uninterrupted views out over the scenic coastline. Containment and safety are vastly improved by placing the industrial elements underground and allow an integration into the landscape which is not apparent in the current nuclear vernacular.
“The creation of huge quantities of nuclear waste, stored and created worldwide, poses the biggest security and environmental risk. A sustainable solution for the future of this waste must be addressed.”

I 2. etasje i eksisterende bygg.
