10 seconds.

?Who knew this moment would be so nerve-wracking?? she shuddered into the phone speaker. ?Oh that?s right, everyone else whose clock had ended.?

9 seconds.

?Ah come on! It?s not that bad. By the way do you want glazed or just chocolate?? he inquired from the other end. There was a soft crackle of pastries being placed in paper bags.

6 seconds.

?Uh, glazed--but dude, I have less than six seconds left until I meet him. Why are you asking what donut I want?? She strode up the sidewalk, keeping her eyes low to the ground and briskly passing the various shops.

4 seconds.

?Because you know I?m gett ing donuts, I?m talking to you, and not offering would be rude.? There was a soft chuckle on his line, as well as the jingle of a doorbell.

2 seconds.

She let a t iny squeal escape her mouth. Continuing to walk, she began glancing around.

He let out a snort on the line. She could hear the smile in his voice. ?Stop worrying. My clock?s t icking down too, but do you see me worrying about this soul mate mumbo jumbo? Noooo.? A shallow, exaggerated sigh soft ly made its way through the line.

She gave her clock one last look. One second. ?It? just--?

It was him. She had bumped into him, f inally. Ten grueling seconds and there he was. His phone was sandwiched between his shoulder and ear, two small white bags w ith other pastries inside held between his f ingers, and a donut already stuffed in his mouth. He held out a f luffy glazed circle of bread. H"ere?s your donut," he mumbled.

The 12 Year Old M onarch - A Treat ise on t he Pret een Cond it ion

If I were in charge of the world,I?d cancel war, weekly milesAnd also world hunger.

If I were in charge of the worldThere?d be free w i-f i everywhereAnd free video games.

If I were in charge of the worldYou wouldn?t have to studyYou wouldn?t have to workYou wouldn?t have to eat vegetablesOr hear, ?Calm down! ?You wouldn?t even have to learn history

If I were in charge of the worldA mean person would be a nice personA black cat would be luckyAll food would be freeAnd a person who sometimes forgot to write their nameAnd sometimes forgot to bring a pencilWould still be allowed to beIn charge of the world.

" Too late" Rebecca Prisk, 2015

Anna stood at her w indow, pinning her hair up. She heard a scream and then a gunshot. Her mother sighed but neither of them was bothered by it.

?Another one down,? Anna sighed and put the f inal pin into her hair. ?Soon they?ll come to our house and f ind papa.?

?I know sweet heart,? her mother said and looked up from her knitt ing at her. She looked beautiful, silhouetted by the sett ing sun right outside the w indow.

?Does Papa know they?re coming??

?No he doesn?t. He won?t know until it?s too late.?

?Will you miss him??

?Of course I w ill, what kind of woman doesn?t mourn her dead spouse??

?Mourn, yes, but w ill you miss him??

?A lit t le, darling. A lit t le,? she answered and returned to her knitt ing.

?I hope they haven?t gotten to M ichael yet.? Anna whispered and put on lipstick, the color of ripe cherries.

?If he lives in the south district, he has.?

?No, he lives in the north, up here w ith us.?

?They?ve cleared half of our district of them already, you better hurry if you want to see him again.?

?I w ill.?

?Will you miss M ichael??

?Very much so? but this can?t be helped. You have to get rid of them all, not just some.?

Her mother nodded and went back to her knitt ing. Each stitch carefully woven w ith green and blue yarn, each stitch f illed w ith love, each stitch f illed w ith apologies. This was for her husband and he would never know why she was giving it to him, until it was too late.

?Bye Mama! ? Anna called and rushed out, shutt ing the door behind her.

?Oh my dear Anna? ? her mother said soft ly, ?You?re going to be too late? ?

The garage door opened and she could hear the sound of a car pulling in. Her husband was home.

I like when the song dries out and all that?s

left is beat

I like it when you?re laughing and our eyes

just happen to meet

I like it when they dance for me

And I know you do too

I like it

I like them

And I like you

Oh!

I like when they?re talking but

All you hear is tune

I like it when you eyes dry out

And all I see is moon

I like is when the hourglass

trickles down to two

I like it

I like that

I love you

Oh!

I like it when you say my name

Trying to keep this blue

I like it when the radio says

There?s nothing left to do

I like it when my eyes dry out

And trickle down to two

I like it

I like them

And you do too

I like it when the song dries out and all that?s left is beat

I like it when we try to f ight

A stif ling summer heat

I like it when the world dries out

An trickles up to three

I like it

I like that

And you?d say that too

I like it when my eyes can?t see

A shimmer of the glow

I like it when your face turns out

I want to touch the most

I like it when you say to me

That we don?t have to go

I like it

I like that

turn to blue

I like it when My roses reach

for t iny lit t le thorns

I like it when the words they say

Are soon to be met w ith scorn

I like it when they whisper on

her woven netted shoes

I like it

I like them

I

love blue
