February 17th at Club Inferno was GSY’s annual Valentines Day party. It was a huge success. Kids had a great time dancing and just hanging out with their friends. The dance started at around 7 pm. When kids came in, there was a survey at the front desk that asked the kids what they would like the next GSY event to be. There were snacks and drinks for the kids. The dance floor was packed! Everyone was having fun dancing with their friends.

Towards the middle of the dance, we announced the raffle prizes. The prizes were an iPod, Jump Drives & three $25 gift certificates. GSY would truly like to thank Tushar Tripathi and Urmil Salvi for donating the prizes. The party ended at around 11 pm., and everyone had a great time!

GSOD would wish to acknowledge the donations given by Mr. Arvind Shah and Jaya Shah of Jaya Travels for all their help. And lastly Gujarati Samaj Youth wants to give a big thanks to the GSOD EC committee for hosting and executing the event in a fantastic way!

“How long a minute is... depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on.”

Holi (Hindi: होली) or Phagwah (Bhojpuri) is a popular, Hindu spring festival, observed in North India and

Nepal, also called the Festival of Colours. In West Bengal, it is known as Dolyatra (Doljatra) or Boshonto Utsav ("spring festival").

On the first day, bonfires are lit at night to signify burning the demoness Holika, Hiranyakashipu's sister.

On the second day, known as Dhulendi (Dhuleti), people spend the day throwing colored powder and water at each other. The spring season, during which the weather changes, is believed to cause viral fever and cold. Thus, the playful throwing of the coloured powders has a medicinal significance: the colors are traditionally made of Neem, Kumkum, Haldi, Bilva, and other medicinal herbs prescribed by Āyurvedic doctors. A special drink called thandai is prepared, sometimes containing bhang (Cannabis sativa). People invite each other to their houses for feasts and celebrations later in the evening.

Rangapanchami occurs a few days later on a Panchami (fifth day of the full moon), marking the end of festivities involving colors.

Holi takes place over two days in the later part of February or early March. As per the Hindu calendar, it falls on the Phalgun Purnima (or Pooranmashi, Full Moon), which will occur on March 22 in 2008. (In 2007, Holi was celebrated on 3 March, the burning of Holika was on 4 March and the Dhulendi on 5 March.) -wiki

Holi Hai? Hey Kids, Holi Hai means ‘It is Holi’. Holi is on 3/22, surprise your parents by saying Holi Hai!

• About half our dreams are in color. The other half consists of black and white images with only one or two objects standing out in vivid colors.

• The sun is white. All of the blue and most of the green light in the sun's rays at sunset are scattered by particles in the atmosphere. Only the red and orange light reaches us, making the sun appear to set in a golden flame.

• Not all languages name all colors. Japanese only recently added a word for blue. In the past, aoi was an umbrella word that stood for the range of colors from green and blue to violet. -Internet
