Explore over two thousand hectares of beautiful woodland set in the heart of the Lake District World Heritage Site.Since 1977 the Forestry Commission has worked with a number of partner organisations and international artists including the Grizedale Society who initiated the development of sculptures in the forest with us. Other collaborations have included Grizedale Arts, MUF Architecture and Greyworld adding to our internationally renowned collection of site specific sculpture. This is a forest for art, adventure, nature and people, sustainably managed by the Forestry Commission for all to enjoy.

Millwood Trail • • • Short trail: Grade: Easy 1km (0.75 miles), 45 mins Long trail: Grade: Moderate 2.5km (1.5 miles), 1 hour A short introduction to the forest as you walk under the Go Ape course and alongside some of the oldest trees at Grizedale (many over 100 years old). Carron Crag Trail • • • Grade: Strenuous 5km (3 miles), 2 hoursAim for the highest point in Grizedale (314m)! Then why not enjoy a well-earned picnic at the top whilst taking in panoramic views of Coniston Old Man and the Central fells.
Ridding Wood Trail • • • Grade: Easy access surfaced trail 1.5 km (1 mile), 45 mins The shortest and easiest trail at Grizedale through some unusual and ornate trees as well as beautiful oak woodland.
Grizedale Tarn Trail • • • Grade: Moderate 5.5km (3.5 miles), 2 hours On this trail you will see some of the newest sculptures and discover Grizedale Tarn, the only natural tarn in the forest.
Silurian Way • • • Grade: Strenuous 16km (10 miles), 5 hours The ultimate Grizedale walk! A grand tour of the forest with many different artworks and views along the way.
Bogle Crag Trail • • • Short trail: Grade: Moderate 4km (2.5 miles), 1½ hours Long trail: Grade: Moderate 5km (3 miles), 2 hours The iconic artwork ‘Taking a Wall for a Walk’ by Andy Goldsworthy, created in 1990, is well worth a visit on this trail.
High Bowkerstead Trail • • • Short trail: Grade: Strenuous 4km (2.5 miles), 1½ hours Long trail: Grade: Strenuous 6.5km (4 miles), 2½ hours Tackle the steep climbs and you'll see 'Last Rays of an English Rose' by Keir Smith and 'Stone Forest' by Kimio Tsuchiya along the way.
Machell's Coppice Trail • • • Grade: Strenuous 2.5km (1.5 miles), 1 hour A short walk with views over Coniston Water, the lake famous for the Bluebird water speed record.
