Why me?

After five years’ involvement in Chinese-UK business community, I have built up solid experience and business contacts in the Chinese and UK business community by running a startup.

With a well planned sales and marketing strategy, I successfully secured 30 new clients within 19 months for my own startup and these clients include Google and Foster+Partners. Therefore I have got a proven track record of developing new business and also from existing clients.

I am a current member of IoD ( Institutes of Directors ) and China Britain Business Council, which gave me the exposure to a vast variety of Chinese and UK-Chinese based startups and organisations with large Chinese Business owner networks.

I have also gained corporate work experience in London Stock Exchange Group, Vodafone headoffice, Bond Dickinson LLP, Industrial & Commercial Bank of China, London South Bank University as the key first point of contact for all levels of guests and visitors

19 months experience of running my own business startup (www.smartmandarinsolutions.com) in London. Our clients come from a wide range of industries, including international education, international tourism, international ferry industry, business investments, food & beverage retailers, ranging from public sectors to private businesses, from large international organisations to SME and startups in the UK.

I was also shortlisted in the top 3 of 500,000 international students for the NUS’ ‘International Student of the Year’ award by a panel of representatives from the NUS, British Council and UKCISA.

Working as a Mandarin Chinese Language Trainer on a weekly group class for employees at Google, Foster+Partners, Flamingo, Wework, China Investor Club,etc

Classes are delivered on 1 to 1 basis and also small and large group sessions of up to 10 people each group

Design, organise and deliver Chinese culture and language training workshops for above businesses

Jul 2014 - Oct 2016 China Business Development Consultant (p/t) Derby City Council

On behalf of Derby City Council Tourism Team as a primary contact point between Derby City Council Tourism Team and Xi'an Tourism Bureau in Shaanxi Province, China, with my communication skills, I was able to build up key business contacts between each other and establish strong working relationships among stakeholders.

Designed and created a micro-site from www.visitderby.co.uk with content created and translated into Mandarin Chinese, giving information on Derby and Derbyshire and key attractions in Derby and Derbyshire.

Prepared and edited business correspondence via email, telephone, and internet, translated business information from English to Mandarin Chinese and vice versa; assisted in the development of market research, communication materials and channels; analyse competitors, engage external stakeholders, design events programs and carry out marketing strategies to promote Derby globally.

Jul 2013 - Jul 2014 Mandarin Chinese Speaking Assistant Sheffield Hallam University

First point of contact for over 1600 international students in Student Service Centre with over 150 employees, this required me to offer support services and advice to a wide range of staff and current students face-to-face, by phone or email in a friendly and professional way.

Represented Sheffield Business School, led and facilitated three seminar groups of Chinese students to three company visits including: DLA Piper global law firm, Live Nation and Museums Sheffield, I used my initiative to motivate and encourage the students to ask smart questions and maximize the students' experiences.

Coordinated Partner University visits and hosted the welcoming event for the education counsellors and Chinese student visitors from Nanjing HND Centre.

Gave welcome talks during the student orientation programme to an audience of up to 500 people. I was able to work together with academics and support staff to organise welcome activities and events for international students; I have developed a close working relationship with the student union and academic staff to provide volunteering opportunities and better support international students' transition to study in the UK.
