Director's note

This year was a particular challenge for me. Working together with the classes, we wrote both of the shows. We faced and conquered many fears: the fear of singing alone on the stage, of making mistakes, of performing an entire show in English for our new comers this year. We addressed the ever so difficult moments of not getting the role desired, learning not only to talk together about our feelings, but also empathically listen to each other and trying to figure out how to cope with feelings of jealousy. Aside from this emotionally charged battle, the kids were also pushed to work to their absolute best, and then more! All of your children have such an incredible potential, and this is the beauty of my job when creating these shows. Watching everyone's individual talents come to life; watching the kids discover that they have to help each other, and that it is only when we truly work together as a team that the show can finally succeed!

So, thank you middle school, 5th form and all of the children of the Primary school for sharing all of these important "life lessons" with me. Thank you parents for all of the help and support you have shown me. Thank you teachers for embracing and supporting me and dealing with my crazy rehearsals. This year, so many teachers helped out in so many different ways! Valeria, for working with the kids and creating such wonderful scenery. Mac, for your computer savvy work! Jo and Martina, for working with the 5th form translating the script, etc. Morena, for correcting my horrible Italian! Carlotta, for becoming my partner in crime! Francesca and Marta, for working with all of the classes helping to create continuity to this monumental performance! Graziella, for checking on me during every rehearsal! I am surely forgetting to mention someone, but truly, from my heart, (and I have 2 of them inside me at the moment!) thank you to all of you!!!

And, to our team leaders, direttore and direttrice, the biggest thank you of all. I think the words from the finale of the middle school say it best: “Careful the things you say, children will listen. Careful the things you do, children will see and learn”. I believe that your vision enriches our kids' lives, showing them what teamwork is, helping them cope with all of life's day to day challenges together and helping to reach their potential. Questo è stato un anno particolare per me, una vera sfida! Ho lavorato con le classi ed insieme abbiamo steso i copioni dei nostri due spettacoli. Lungo il cammino si sono presentate molte paure, soprattutto per i nuovi alunni: la paura di cantare da soli sul palco, la paura di sbagliare, la paura di mettere in scena uno spettacolo interamente in lingua inglese, paure che abbiamo affrontato e superato insieme. Non sono mancati momenti critici, come succede quando qualcuno non ottiene la parte desiderata, ma abbiamo imparato a sviscerare i nostri sentimenti e ad ascoltarci empaticamente, cercando il modo di metabolizzare e far fronte al sentimento della gelosia. A parte questa battaglia carica di emozioni, i ragazzi hanno lavorato al meglio in un crescendo entusiasmante! Tutti i vostri figli hanno un tale incredibile potenziale ed il bello del mio lavoro è proprio vederli all’opera durante la creazione di questi spettacoli. Osservare i talenti individuali che prendono vita; guardare i ragazzi mentre scoprono che aiutarsi a vicenda è fondamentale perché è solo quando lavoriamo veramente insieme come una squadra che lo spettacolo può finalmente avere successo!

Perciò, un grazie di cuore ai ragazzi della scuola media, alla classe quinta e a tutti i bambini della scuola elementare per aver condiviso insieme a me tutte queste importanti "lezioni di vita". Grazie a voi genitori per tutto l'aiuto ed il supporto che mi avete dimostrato. Grazie agli insegnanti per la comprensione, per il sostegno, per aver assecondato le mie folli richieste di prove. In particolare quest'anno molti insegnanti mi hanno aiutata in modi diversi! Valeria, che ha lavorato con i ragazzi alla creazione di una meravigliosa scenografia. Mac, per la perizia del suo lavoro con il computer! Jo e Martina, per aver lavorato con la quinta elementare alla traduzione del copione e a molto altro; Morena per aver corretto il mio orribile italiano!

Carlotta, per essere diventata mia complice in questa avventura! Francesca e Marta, per aver lavorato con tutte le classi ed aver così contribuito a creare il collante, lo spirito comune che ha consentito di costruire questa impresa monumentale! Graziella, per avermi tenuta d’occhio durante ogni prova! Sto sicuramente dimenticando qualcuno, ma davvero, dal profondo del mio cuore (e in questo momento ne custodisco due dentro di me!), grazie a tutti voi!!!

Infine, ai nostri team leader, direttore e direttrice, va il più grande dei miei ringraziamenti. Credo che le parole del finale dello spettacolo della scuola media lo esprimano al meglio: “Attenzione a ciò che dirai, i bambini ascolteranno. Attenzione a ciò che farai, i bambini vedranno e impareranno”. Credo che la vostra visione dell’educazione arricchisca la vita dei nostri bambini, dando loro l’esempio di cosa significhi lavorare in squadra, aiutandoli a far fronte alle sfide quotidiane che la vita ci presenta, spingendo ciascuno di loro a dare il meglio di sé. Grazie per l'aiuto in ogni momento, grande o piccolo che sia. Sono così orgogliosa di lavorare con voi! Grazie perché credete in me e riponete in me la vostra fiducia. Marci Caliendo

Ringraziamenti “ Se guardiamo un pino cresciuto in una valle, noteremo che è diverso da quello cresciuto in montagna. Riconosciamo uno stile quando lo vediamo in un contesto diverso da quello che ci aspettiamo […] La stessa cosa accade con gli esseri umani. […] la mente cambia con il cambiare dell’ambiente. Fin quando una persona è in una posizione favorevole, il suo stile di vita non è visibile chiaramente; ma in situazioni nuove, dove l’individuo si trova a fronteggiare le difficoltà, esso appare distintamente. Anche quest’anno abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di imparare che la complessità è una risorsa quando è un cammino, quando porta a nuova conoscenza. Una conoscenza che si accumula passo dopo passo e cambia la nostra mente.

I nostri figli vivono una realtà sociale che tende a sostituirsi a loro, crea per loro, semplifica, velocizza, appiattisce. Il teatro, disciplina per noi fondamentale, consente di agire in uno spazio fisico e non virtuale, dove manualità, pensieri ed azioni elaborano la semplicità e la trasformano in prodigio. Il viaggio nelle fiabe reinterpretate dai nostri ragazzi e la storia di Edward raccontata dai nostri bambini ne sono un esempio. La scuola, insieme alla famiglia, ha la grande responsabilità di costituire l’ambiente dove i bambini elaborano il proprio stile di vita.

Marci, preziosa ed insostituibile drama teacher, ci ricorda nelle note di regia che il nostro modo di dire e di fare le cose influirà sulla vita dei nostri figli una volta adulti. La nostra capacità testimoniale potrà essere linfa vitale per dare speranza e futuro alle nuove generazioni.

I miei ringraziamenti vanno quindi, oltre alle fantastiche persone con le quali ho il privilegio di lavorare, docenti e personale della

Flag, a tutti voi genitori che continuate a credere nella nostra scuola, affrontando i mille sacrifici che i tempi impongono.

In particolare sono grata a tutte le mamme e a tutti i papà che con le loro azioni, la loro partecipazione, i loro sorrisi ed anche i loro silenzi sostengono il nostro lavoro ed il nostro impegno, mantenendo viva in noi l’energia per proseguire un cammino certamente non privo di ostacoli, ma incredibilmente gratificante ed entusiasmante.

Il Teatro Fraschini, sempre infinitamente disponibile, il personale tecnico di palcoscenico, gli amici Beppe Soggetti e Giulia Sollazzi, ci hanno dato ancora una volta la possibilità di vivere il grande privilegio di imparare dai nostri alunni.

Narrator: You are probably wondering who the man dressed in black is.

Narrator: Let's just say he is trying to make things right. Let's call him the mysterious man.

MM: Will you two pay attention!

Baker: Who are you?

Jack: Oh, milky white. I am so sorry, but, I have to sell you.

Wife: Hello there, Jack. What is wrong...the cow as white as milk.

Baker: Yes, dear. The cow is white and has milk...ow! The cow as white as milk.

Jack: Yes, her name is Milky White. I have to take her to the market and sell her.

Wife: That is too bad.

Baker: We will buy him from you!

Wife: We have no money!

Jack: I can take no more, less than 5 dollars.

Baker: I will give you 6 beans!

Jack: Beans?

MM: Beans!

Wife: Beans?

3 bears: Beans!

Narrator: Not just any beans but...

Mm: Magic beans.

Wife: Magic beans!

Jack: Magic beans?

Baker: Yes. 6

Narratore: Probabilmente vi state chiedendo chi è l’uomo vestito di nero

Narratore: Diciamo solo che sta cercando di fare cose giuste. Chiamiamolo “uomo misterioso.”

MM: Volete fare attenzione! Baker: Chi sei tu? Jack: Oh, Milky White. Sono così dispiaciuto, ma devo

venderti. Wife: Ciao, Jack. Cosa c’è di male? La mucca bianca come il

latte. Baker: Sì, caro. La mucca è bianca e ha il latte …ow! La mucca

bianca come il latte. Jack: Il suo nome è Milky White. Devo portarla al mercato e

venderla. Wife: Questo è un peccato. Baker: La compreremo noi da te Wife: Non abbiamo soldi. Jack: Non posso prendere meno di 5 dollari. Baker: Ti darò sei fagioli. Jack : fagioli ? MM: fagioli ! Wife: fagioli ? 3 orsetti : fagioli ! Narratore: non solo semplici fagioli ma… MM: fagioli magici. Wife: : fagioli magici ! Jack: fagioli magici ? Baker: sì. 6

LRRH: I'm Little red running shorts, Run! Run! Run! The wolf can't catch me! This is fun! He's so hungry! He's too slow! Watch out now, gotta go! Go! Go!

Wolf: I'm the wolf, grrrr!

And I can't catch her! She's so fast, no one can! Please, please, feed me, man!

Baker: I mean 5 magic beans. Jack: Sold! Narrator: Jack ran off and planted his magic beans. Much to his

surprise, a giant beanstalk grew. Jack climbed it and came upon a Giant's kingdom. He, now pay attention, STOLE a golden egg!

Jack: Mom! Mom! JM: Did you sell milky white? Yes: And I got 5 magic beans! JM: You stupid boy! How could you...what is that? Jack: A golden egg! I stole it from the giant! JM: I don't care where you got it! We are rich! Rich! Mamma bear: Ok, let's take it from the top baby. Baby bear: Mamma bear, goldilocks keeps getting in my

way! Goldilocks: What? Papa bear: Goldi, Goldi, how many times do I have to tell you… Mamma bear: Baby bear is our star! Baby bear: You are just the backup! Papa bear: Baby is gonna be a star!

LRRH: Io sono Pantaloncino rosso, Corri! Corri! Corri! Il lupo non mi prenderà! Com’è divertente! Lui è così affamato! È così lento! Adesso devo andare, andare, andare! Lupo: Io sono il lupo, grrrr! E non riesco a prenderla! Lei è così veloce, nessuno riesce a prenderla! Per favore, per favore dammi qualcosa da mangiare! Baker: Volevo dire 5 fagioli magici. Jack: Venduto! Narrator: Jack se ne andò e piantò i suoi fagioli magici. Con sua sorpresa, crebbe una gigante pianta di fagioli. Jack ci si arrampicò e trovò il regno dei giganti. E adesso ascoltate, ascoltate, Jack ha rubato delle uova d'oro! Jack: Mom! Mom! JM: Hai venduto milky white? Jack: Sì! e ho ricavato 5 fagioli magici! JM: Stupido! Come hai potuto…cos'è quello? Jack: Un uovo d'oro! L'ho rubato al gigante! JM: Non mi interessa dove l'hai preso! Siamo ricchi! ricchi! Mamma bear: Ok cominciamo da capo, baby. Baby bear: Mamma Orsa, Riccioli d'Oro continua a fare come me! Goldilocks: Cosa? Papà bear: Riccioli d'Oro, quante volte te lo devo dire... Mamma bear: Piccola Orsa è la nostra star! Baby bear: Tu stai solo dietro le quinte! Papà bear: Piccola Orsa sarà una star!

Mamma bear: Goldilocks! You are standing in front of baby bear! Move it!

BROADWAY BABY

Narrator: Hey, mysterious man. I have something for you.

MM: Who the heck are you? And what is that?

Narrator: I am the new narrator. I am new to this kingdom. And these are Cinderella's shoes for the ball. Look at these slippers as pure as gold.

MM: Welcome to the woods!

Narrator: Hey you, if you are going to be a narrator, you can't actually be in the story. Come over here and sit with us.

Narrator: Ok. Hey, mysterious man, could you give this to Cinderella for me? Thanks.

Baker: Where are we going to find these things?

MM: What are you looking for?

Baker: Great. You again. The strange man.

MM: Mysterious man.

Wife: Wonderful man! Where did you get that slipper?

MM: It is for Cinderella.

Baker: We need it to break the witch's spell!

Wife: Take my shoe and give it to Cinderella! We must have it.

MM: Ok. Nice work narrators!

Cinderella: How I can I ever go to the ball looking like this! Oh, thank you! Thank you! Is this some kind of joke?

Narrator: No Cinderella! It is all the fashion these days!

Baby Bear: E noi diventeremo ricchi!

Goldilocks: Non posso più sopportarlo! Come può Biancaneve andare nel bosco ed io finire con tre orsetti pazzi che vogliono diventare Ie star di Broadway?

Mamma Bear: Goldilocks! Sei di fronte a Baby Bear! Spostati!

BROADWAY BABY

Narrator: Hey, uomo misterioso, ho qualcosa per te.

MM: Chi diavolo sei?

Narrator: Io sono il nuovo narratore. Sono nuovo in questo regno. E queste sono le scarpe di Cenerentola per il ballo. Guarda queste scarpe pure come l'oro.

MM: Benvenuto nel bosco.

Narrator: Hey tu, se diventerai un narratore, non puoi rimanere nella storia. Vieni qui e siediti con noi.

Narrator: Ok. Hey, uomo misterioso, potresti darle a Cenerentola da parte mia? Grazie.

Baker: Dove possiamo trovare queste cose?

MM: Cosa state cercando?

Baker: Grandioso. Ancora tu. L'uomo strano.

MM: Uomo misterioso.

Wife: Uomo fantastico! Dove hai trovato quelle scarpe?

MM: Sono per Cenerentola.

Baker: Ci servono per rompere la maledizione delle streghe!

Wife: Prendi la mia scarpa e dalla a Cenerentola. La dobbiamo avere!

MM: Ok, bel lavoro narratore!

Cinderella: Come posso andare al ballo vestita così? Oh, Grazie! E' una specie di scherzo?

Narrator: No, Cenerentola! E' la moda di adesso!

Prince Charming: Well, how many princesses do you have? I have two maidens waiting. I am looking for one with such beautiful and expensive gold shoes and one with skin as white as snow and lips as red as blood…

Mysterious Man: Rumor has it she lives with 7 strange little men!

Prince Philip: Be gone you! My maiden lives in a tower and has long beautiful golden hair.

Mysterious Man: Your maiden has been locked in a tower her whole life! Rumor has it she is nuts! Crazy! Wacko!

Prince Charming: Who are you?

MM: I am the MYSTERIOUS MAN!

PC and PF: OH!!!!

Prince Charming: By the way, have you seen my new Armani shirt?

Prince Philip: Yes, it is very nice, but, not as nice as my new Dolce&Gabbana couture knickers!

Snow White: Prince Charming!

Cinderella: Hello Friends! Prince Charming…

Narratore: Intanto dall'altra parte del bosco il bellissimo, famoso, sorprendente e arrogante Principe Charming…

Narrator: E il suo migliore amico, il ricchissimo, il più cool, ehm, il vanitoso principe Phillip. che insieme a lui sta cercando le future principesse.

Prince Charming: Ciao, Principe Phillip. Prince Phillip: Ciao, Principe Charming. Ah! Come mi viene da

ridere quando sento questo! Che razza di nome è Principe Charming?

Prince Charming: Bene, quante principesse hai? Io ne ho due che mi stanno aspettando. Ne sto cercando una con delle scarpe dorate e costose e una con la pelle bianca come la neve e le labbra rosse come il sangue…

MM: Mi sono giunte voci che vive con sette piccoli strani nani.

Prince Phillip: Vattene tu! La mia principessa vive in una torre e ha dei bellissimi capelli d'oro.

MM: La tua principessa è stata rinchiusa in una torre per tutta la vita! Svegliati! E' matta! Pazza! Da manicomio!

Prince Charming: Chi Sei tu? MM: Sono l’uomo misterioso! Principi: Oh!!!! Prince Charming: A proposito, hai visto la mia nuova maglietta di

Armani? Prince Phillip: Sì, è veramente bella, ma non così bella come i

Rapunzel: Prince Phillip! Get me out of here!

Prince Phillip: Are you crazy or something?

Rapunzel: Crazy? What did you say? How would you feel if you were locked up here in a tower your whole life?

Prince Phillip: Come on, Charming. Let’s go find some new princesses.

Snow White: Who needs them anyway!

Baker: We have the slipper as pure as gold, we need the hair as yellow as corn.

Wife: Hello there, young lady.

Rapunzel: What do you want?

Baker: What lovely hair you have.

Rapunzel: I hate it! I just want to get out of here and chop off all my hair!

Wife: Well, why don’t you!

Rapunzel: My crazy mother locked me up here forever!

Wife: I have an idea! Why don’t you let your down and my husband can climb up and help you to get out.

Rapunzel: Seriously? You would help me?

Snow White: Cenerentola, cosa stai facendo? Non hai letto la storia? Lui è il mio principe!

Cinderella: Ma va, Snow White! Prince Charming è il mio principe!

MM: Chiedile di quei piccoli e strani ometti. Prince Charming: E' vero che vivi con sette ometti inquietanti? Snow White: Oh, sì! I miei amici Dotto, Brontolo ed Eolo. MM: Hey, controllale le scarpe! Prince Charming: Veloce! Qualcuno chiami la buoncostume! Rapunzel: Prince Phillip, tirami fuori da qui! Prince Phillip: Ma sei pazza o cosa? Rapunzel: Pazza? Ma cosa stai dicendo? Come ti sentiresti

se fossi stato rinchiuso in una torre per tutta la tua vita?

Prince Phillip: Vieni, Charming. Andiamo a trovare delle nuove principesse.

Snow White: Ci servono loro comunque! Baker: Abbiamo la scarpa pura come l'oro, abbiamo

bisogno di capelli biondi come il mais. Wife: Ciao signorina. Rapunzel: Cosa vuoi? Baker: Che bei capelli che hai. Rapunzel: Li odio! Vorrei solo uscire da qui e tagliare via tutti

i miei capelli! Wife: Beh, perché non lo fai! Rapunzel: La mia madre pazza mi ha rinchiusa quassù per

sempre. Wife: Ho un’ idea! Perché non lasci cadere i tuoi capelli

dalla torre così mio marito sale e ti aiuta a scendere?

Rapunzel: Davvero? Mi aiuteresti?

Rapunzel: Those people were so nice to help me! I feel like I know that Baker somehow! I am going to go and find him.

Goldilocks: Um, excuse me, but, if you girls are no longer interested, I would love to become a princess!

Snow White: They are all yours!

Baker and Wife: The cape as red as blood!

Goldilocks: Hello there, handsome!

Prince Charming: Well hello! How would you like to be a princess?

Goldilocks: I would love to!

Prince Phillip: WAHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I want a princess too!

Prince Phillip: That’s the girl! She’s the one!

Wolf: What are you crazy or something? All she does is run run run run!!!!!! I am Hungry!!!

Rapunzel: Why do you keep saying that?

Wife: Ma ad una condizione: che tu mi lasci tagliare i tuoi capelli e mi consenti di portarli via con me.

Rapunzel: Ok.

Cinderella: Ora cosa faccio senza il mio Prince Charming?

Snow White: MY Prince Charming.

Snow White: Andiamo a cercare un posto per vivere insieme! Potremmo essere compagne di stanza!

Cinderella: Ho sempre voluto diventare una veterinaria! Forse potrei studiare e andare all'università!

Rapunzel: Quelle persone sono state così gentili ad aiutarmi! Sento di conoscere già quel panettiere. Andrò a cercarlo.

Goldilocks: Um, scusatemi, ma se voi ragazze non siete interessate, io vorrei diventare una principessa.

Snow White: Sono tutti tuoi!

Baker and wife: La mantella rossa come il sangue!

Goldilocks: Ciao bello!
