Diving & Snorkeling MenuTaking a boat trip South from Ao Nang in Krabi brings you to some of the most spectacular scenery in South East Asia. With an enormous variety of sites available for both snorkeling and diving, Aqua Vision alternates trips daily between the many sites at the Phi Phi Islands, Shark Point Marine Sanctuary, Hin Daeng, Hin Muang, Koh Ha and the local Islands of Ao Phra Nang bay.

Local Islands Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

A 15-minute ride aboard a luxurious speedboat takes you to the stunning limestone islands in the Ao Nang bay area. Surrounded by shallow water coral reef, and with visibility around 10-15 meters you can see a huge variety of tropical fish and explore the many swim throughs and under water caverns.

• Speed Boat 1 or 2 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 12:00pm

• Day Boat 1 or 2 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 14:00pm

Phi Phi Islands Novice - Intermediate - Advanced

South of Ao Nang are the twin islands of Phi Phi Ley and Phi Phi Don with stunning sites suitable for every level of diver and snorkeler - shallow sheltered bays, soft coral walls and deep reef dives.

Living in and around the colorful array of coral gardens, stag horn coral fields and huge sea fans you will find a every type of sea life – masses of schooling fish, turtles grazing on beautiful anemones and on

the sandy bottom reclusive leopard sharks can be found resting.

Some of our favorite sites are “the Bidas” – Bida Nok, Bida Nai and Hin Bida three sites teeming with sea life and within a short 45 minutes reach by speedboat – world class diving in a half day direct from your hotel.

For novice divers and snorkelers the Phi Phi area is an ideal destination, with superb shallow water coral bays and beaches. Aqua Vision offer a twice weekly Phi Phi excursion, snorkeling and diving at some of the most beautiful bays and visiting the Islands small town for a little souvenir hunting. A perfect trip for your first scuba experience, snorkeling or a family day out.

• Speed Boat 1 or 2 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 14:00pm

• Speed Boat 3 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 15:30pm

• Day Boat 1 or 2 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 17:00pm

Shark Point Marine Sanctuary Intermediate - Advanced

Situated between Phuket and Krabi are the three popular dive sites of Shark Point, Anemone Reef and the King Cruiser Wreck all within a one kilometer radius of each other. Aqua Vision dives all three of these sites in one weekly "Super Day", as well as running a two dive trip to Shark Point and Anemone Reef.

Until its sinking in early 1997, the 87m long King Cruiser operated between Phuket and Phi Phi. The ship met its fate after striking Anemone Reef and tearing a gaping hole hole in its hull, and now rests perfectly upright on the sand at 30 meters depth.

The wreck is home to a huge variety of fish and marine life, especially schooling juvenile barracuda, sweet lips and trevallies. Both Shark Point and Anemone Reef are pinnacle like rock formations with beautiful tropical reef fish school in large numbers. Colourful soft corals and anemones cover the rocks like a living carpet.

• Speed Boat 1 or 2 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 13:30pm

• Speed Boat 3 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 15:00pm

• Day Boat 1 or 2 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 17:00pm

Ko Ha Islands & Caverns Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

This group of stunning and remote islands is situated about a one and a half hour boat trip from Aqua Visions Dive Center and is one of our personal favourite destinations due to its outstanding natural beauty and (nearly) always-favourable conditions.

Depths range here from 3 to 34 meters with an abundance of marine life attracted by the Islands Swiss cheese like labyrinth of small caves and caverns. Our personal favourite is a cathedral like cave with two entrances at 5 and 16 meter depths. The ceiling of this cave stretches 30 meters above the surface, and light filtering in through the clear blue water creates a magical neon lit atmosphere

whilst inside. The surface is accessible at any time so even less experienced diver can enter this site. Not to be missed.

• Speed Boat 1 or 2 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 16:00pm

• Day Boat Not Available

Manta & Whale Shark Safari Advanced

Hin Daeng (Red Rock) Without doubt one of Thailand's best dive sites. Located southwest of the Phi Phi Islands it is out of range for the big dive boats, and is visited exclusively from Ao Nang beach by our Fly bridge Speedboat.

Only the extreme tip of this huge pinnacle protrudes above the surface. It has only been in the last few years that divers have begun visiting this area drawn to

its remote location by the almost constant presence of majestic Whale Sharks and Manta Rays, as well as large schools of other species of fish and sharks.

The Southern side of the pinnacle drops off almost straight down to a depth of over 60 meters making it the deepest wall dive in Thailand. This unusual rock although teeming with smaller sea life, a sparse coating of soft corals and a few sea fans seems almost barren when compared with the rest of the site, but is a good place to hang out for Whale Sharks and Manta sightings.

The Eastern side gently slopes off along two long narrow ridges until they disappear into unreachable depths. By descending along the wall to a depth of 30 meters, you are likely to encounter huge schools of Trevallies, Jacks and Tuna sometimes so thick they appear as a solid wall of silver. Large Barracudas sweep past the ridge as they stalk the feeding Needlefish and Long Toms. The sheer amount of marine life you find here makes the long journey worth every minute.

Hin Muang, (Purple Rock)This totally submerged underwater pinnacle is located just a few hundred meters north of Hin Daeng. The rock is so completely covered with lush purple soft corals that it actually seems to glow, and it attracts the most incredible amount of marine life you will find anywhere. Compared with the relatively barren rocks of Hin Daeng it is as if you are swimming in an entirely different ocean and not just a short distance away.

The limestone pinnacle stretches for more than 200 meters in length and in some places is less than 20 meters in width. The almost vertical walls are carpeted with anemones and colorful sea fans and the numerous little caves, ledges, and rocky outcroppings provide shelter for virtually every underwater creature found in Southeast Asia, and seems to be a magnet for every Manta Ray in the region, with Mantas regularly in groups of 5 or more hanging out here for days.

• Speed Boat 1 or 2 Dives - Depart 08:00am Return - 17:00pm

• Day Boat Not Available

Frequently Asked Questions About Diving.

Is learning to dive difficult?

No, it's probably easier than you imagine -- especially if you're already comfortable in the water. PADI's entry-level course consists of pool diving, knowledge development and open water dives. The course is performance based, meaning that you progress as you learn and demonstrate knowledge and skill.

How long does it take to become a certified scuba diver?

PADI courses are performance based, which means that you get your certification by demonstrating that you've mastered the required skills and knowledge. Because some learn faster than others, course duration varies. For example, the PADI Open Water Diver course can be split into five or six sessions over as little as three days to a much as six weeks.

How old do I have to be to become a certified diver?

You must be at least ten years old to receive a Junior Open Water Diver Certification. Ten and 11 year old Junior Open Water Divers must dive with a certified parent, guardian or PADI Professional to a maximum depth of 12 metres/40 feet. 12 to 14 year olds must dive with a certified adult. At age 15, the Junior certification upgrades to a regular Open Water Diver certification.

Are there any special qualifications or considerations to participate in a scuba class?

No. Generally speaking, anyone in good average health and at least 10 years old can participate. You will, however, complete a medical questionnaire. If anything on the questionnaire indicates a reason to be cautious about diving, you'll need check with a physician to make sure you can dive.

Do I have to be a good swimmer to be a PADI Open Water Diver?

No. You need to be reasonably proficient and comfortable in the water. You must swim 200 metres/200 yards nonstop, without a time or specific stroke requirement or a 300 metre/yard swim with mask, fins and snorkel. You'll also do a 10 minute tread/float

Is scuba diving expensive?

No. Like any hobby or recreation, you can invest however much you want, depending upon your interest level. Because most dive centers and resorts rent equipment, you can invest in equipment over time, renting what you don't have. There's probably good diving not far from where you live, so travel costs can be flexible enough to accommodate even the tightest budget. Most people find the costs of scuba diving similar to the cost associated with snow skiing or mountain biking.

Page 20: Scuba Diving Krabi Thailand

What equipment do I need before I take scuba lessons?

It's best to check with your instructor ahead of time to see what equipment is provided in your scuba course. Generally speaking, you'll want to own a mask, snorkel and fins. Any Aqua Vision Dive Center can help you select quality equipment that fits properly. Most scuba equipment is very durable, so you won't have to replace it often.

What's in a scuba tank? Oxygen?

Recreational divers breathe air, not oxygen. The air in a scuba tank is like the air you're breathing but is also filtered to remove impurities.

How long does a tank of air last?

Since people breathe at different rates and as you go deeper you consume air faster, there isn't any one answer. Because of this, divers carry a gauge that lets them know how much air is in the tank. However, divers in calm, warm water from 5-10 metres/15-30 feet can spend about one hour underwater with an average tank.

My ears hurt when I dive to the bottom of a pool. Won't they hurt when I dive?

Your ears hurt because of the water pressure on your eardrum. In your scuba course, you'll learn simple techniques to equalize your ears to the surrounding pressure, much like you do when you land in an airplane.

In the movies and on TV, divers are always running into sharks or eels. Should I be concerned about marine animals?

Most aquatic animals are passive or timid. A few do bite or sting, but you can avoid them by not touching them. Divers aren't prey for sharks and therefore shark attacks are rare.

Is diving dangerous?

No, but there are potential hazards, which is why you need proper training certification.

I need vision correction. Is that a problem?

No. Wearing soft contact lenses shouldn't be a problem while you dive. However, if you wear hard contacts, you'll want to dive with gas permeable lenses. See your eye doctor for more information. Another option is to have prescription lenses put into your mask. See a PADI Professional about this service.

If I have been diving, how long should I wait before flying?

The dive medical community offers the following recommendations for flying after diving, whether you’re using the RDP, another table or a dive computer:

For Dives within the No-Decompression Limits

• Single Dives - A minimum preflight surface interval of 12 hours is suggested.• Repetitive Dives and/or Multiday Dives - A minimum preflight surface interval of

18 hours is suggested.

Scuba diving sounds great, but can I try it without signing up for a course?

Absolutely. The PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience allows you to make a shallow scuba dive supervised by a PADI Professional after a short pool session. This usually takes a few hours. Or, you can try the PADI Discover Scuba experience that lets you try scuba in a swimming pool.

I'm already a diver but I've lost my certification card. Can I get a new one?

To replace a lost card you can go to any Aqua Vision Dive Center or you can go to the replacement card area at padi.com. It takes about two weeks to replace a certification card so if you are diving sooner than that, have the PADI Dive Center or Resort you're diving with call PADI. PADI will transmit your certification information. If you were certified after 1984 in PADI Asia Pacific, PADI Americas, PADI Canada, PADI International Limited or PADI Europe territory, PADI Dive Centers or Resorts can usually verify your certification through the computerized Dive-Chek system at any time.

I'm a certified diver through another organization. How do I become a PADI diver?
