Page 3: Screens and Photographs Done by Annabel Diong 7A

Introduction Have you ever wondered what a dimension is and what is it for? Have you everwondered if you were to play around with a pictures dimensions, would it show the same image? Well if you are wondering this PowerPoint has all the answers. It will include what the standard dimensions are, what happens if you change a photo’s dimensions ( will it show the same image of not), a chart showing the standard dimensions, What dimensions are and image proof. And if you don’t want any parts of Of your image taken off, I suggest that you just leave it in its original size.

What dimension areA dimension is a measurement in length, width, and thickness, and in this case a picture. If You were to go to a Kodak store they would ask you what dimension you want your picture to be printed in, so that it would fit you picture frame. Also Manufacturing companies use Dimensions to create products in their buyers specifications. And if dimensions did not exist the world would be in chaos.

Do they show the same image? They do not show the same image, as you can see the images below, the girl smiling, there are two different dimensions ( 4x6 and 8x10), the differences between them are that , the 4x6 picture seems the width is bigger, but the length is shorter, and some of the picture has been cut off, like her chin, in the 8x10 picture you can see her chin very clearly, while the 4x6 picture, half of her chin has been cut off, a little bit of her scalp is cut off her entire shoulder is cut off and bits of her hair are cut off too. In the second picture, the girl with the pink headband, there are 2 dimensions (5X7 and 8x10) the first thing you notice is her headband, as you cans see in the 8x10 picture, half of her headband is cut off and in the 5x7 picture you can fully see her Headband, and more of her shoulder is visible in the 5x7 picture, but it’s a smaller picture, why does it show more than the bigger one, shouldn’t it be the other way round? Why , because it is probably because when the picture is enlarged to fit the dimensions, some of the image gets cut off, like example, the airplane's television screens, there is a note below it saying that the video’s on the screen were adjusted to fit the screen , meaning that some of the image was cut off.……..continue in next slide.

Continue Think of it this way, so lets say you have a picture in its original size (8x10), but it doesn’t fit your photo frame (5x7), and you want to make it smaller to (5x7) so that it would fit. ( look in the document and read the info here). 8x10, 8 is the length and 10 is the width, which equal to the dimension ( L x W = D). look at the 8x10 picture look carefully at the dog on the far right and left , as you can see the dog on the far right’s f face is cut off and the dog on the far left’s body is cut off, but when you change the size to 5x7 you are able to see half of the dogs face and the dogs body. Sometimes we may need to resizing a standard photo size to a common international passport photo size of 3.5x4.5cm without borders and photo frame to use it in passport, or to be put in a wallet. Such a tremendous change in dimension will lead to quite a loss of detail. ( click to open document)
