A message from the Principal Search Committee... Since our principal, Dr Quinn, is leaving our school, Fr. Shea assembled a committee to interview candidates. The committee included Fr. John Moloney, two teachers from our school, two parents of current students, and two parents of former students. Unfortunately, the two Notre Dame Sisters who were going to part of the Search Committee were out of town during the Search Committee meetings. Since one of the candidates was related to Fr. Shea, he recused himself from the interview and selection process. The committee reviewed resumes and selected candidates to interview. The first interviews focused on exploring the candidate’s experience in specific areas. These included the practice of their Catholic faith, leadership and motivation, developing students academically and spiritually, instructional technology, integrated curriculum, hiring staff, developing a strategic plan, and working collaboratively with all stakeholders. The committee then selected the best candidates to come back for a second interview where they were asked to respond to scenarios relevant to our school. These included recruiting and retaining students, visions for the school of the future, integrating technology into curricula, observing and developing teachers, dealing with discipline issues, and responding to the concerns of parents. At the end of the process, the committee unanimously recommended a candidate to Fr. Shea. He accepted the recommendation. We are pleased to announce that the new principal for our school will be Molly Jean Harding. She resides in our parish with her family. She graduated from St. Rose of Lima school, received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame, her Masters in Education from Loyola Marymount University, and is a certified catechist. She has been a teacher, vice-principal, and principal. She currently works for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as an Academic Excellence Specialist visiting schools, observing student learning, identifying a focus for continued academic growth, and developing workshops for professional development of principals and teachers. In selecting Molly, the committee considered some unique issues. She is Fr. Shea’s niece, so we had concerns about the perception but also about the reality of her interactions with her boss/pastor/uncle. We questioned her and we questioned Fr. Shea. We are satisfied that they can keep the school part of their relationship professional. We are also confident that the school community will see that she earned her position because of her talents and experience. Some of the staff know her from her days as a student so we questioned if they would accept her as their principal. Mrs. Plowman and Mrs. Sellers helped select her, and the staff at the school reacted to her selection with joy and enthusiasm. Beyond her experience, she brings a dedication to education especially of Catholic school students, a deep belief in our parish goals, and a desire to make our school the best. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Harding to our school. Sincerely, Lee Olson Chair of the Principal Search Committee
Priest Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests Commitment Weekend, June 8/9, 2019
We are truly blessed by the men who have given their lives in service to thou-sands of families as a priest. As life begins to change in their later years, so too do their needs. Together we are invited to join and bless those who have blessed us by making a meaningful gift to the Priest Retirement Fund. Have you ever wondered what happens to our priests after they retire from teaching, preaching, and serving on a regular basis? Where do they go? Who takes care of them? What do they need? Like us, they desire rest and have needs for care and medical treatment as they grow older. Unlike most of us, though, their modest salaries
were never meant to provide for them after many years of service. Your gift to the Priest Retirement Fund is a meaningful investment and true blessing for the care and comfort of our spiritual fathers as they enter the later chapters in life. They deserve nothing less.

“Helping Build Up the Domestic Church”
The term “Domestic Church” refers to the family, the smallest body of gathered
believers in Christ. The Greek word ecclesiola referred to “little church.” Our Early Church Fathers understood that the home is the best place to learn how to practice discipleship, sanctification, and holiness. Are you and your family saints in training in your own “little church”? Your answer should be YES! Visit the Office of Faith Formation for more information on training to be saints!

CATHOLIC FAITH FACTS Do you ever wonder why we believe the things we believe in as Catholics? Are you tired of being asked questions about your Catholic faith from loved ones, friends or co-workers - and NOT being able to give an answer? If this sounds like you – please consider joining the Catholic Faith Facts Apologetics Course here at St. Rose of Lima. You will learn how to give Biblical answers for your faith as well as the corresponding references from the Catechism. You will gain a clearer understanding about subjects like the Mass, defending Marian doctrines, the Eucharist, Purgatory, Confession, statues and images, praying to the saints, and many more. Join us on Wednesdays in room 9 of the school at 7:00pm. Bring a family member or a friend with you who may have questions about a particular topic we are discussing. As the Body of Chr ist, our Catholic faith is a family journey – so don’t try to walk it alone and uninformed! Call Sandy Lemos at 805 915-4621 or visit our page on the Parish website to see the topics covered in previous classes: https://strosesv.com/cff-apologetics-class
James: Pearls for Wise Living James is one of the most practical books of the Bible. Its teachings speak loudly to those who feel torn between the competing demands of
this world and their faith. This study offers “pearls for wise living” by applying the wisdom of James to our current day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly Christian life, James offers a wealth of
practical solutions for handling and even sanc-tifying everyday circumstances.
Join us for James: Pearls for Wise Living here at St. Rose of Lima

Gracious and Loving God,
Help these young men and women to be a light for all the world to see, in all the places they live and work.
Let their light shine for all peoples: for their families,
for their church communities, for their cultures and societies, for the economic and political systems, for the whole world. Coming into the room where the disciples were gathered
after the resurrection, Jesus, said:
“Peace be with you!” (Jn 20:21).
Make these men and women bearers of Christ's peace.
" Blessed are the peacemakers, teach them the meaning of what was said on
the mountain: for they shall be called sons and daughters of
God" (cf. Mt 5:9). Send them, Father,
as you sent your son: to free their brothers and sisters from fear and sin.
We ask this of you, in Christ's name. Amen.

DID YOU KNOW? Protect young people from cyberbullying
Cyberbullying can happen at any time, on any online platform. It can take many forms – cruel direct messages, threatening emails, mean texts, shared photos, and more. Victims of cyber-bullying often suffer from anxiety and depression, and their self-esteem can be diminished. They may be reluctant to talk about bullying, so parents need to be on top of all their children’s online activities. . Asking questions and getting information about popular apps and sites will help, too. For more information, get a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Cyber-Bullying: Protecting Young People from Technology Dangers.

El acoso (bullying) cibernético puede ocurrir en cualquier momento, en
cualquier plataforma en línea. Puede tomar muchas formas, como mensajes crueles
directos, correos electrónicos amenazadores, textos agresivos, fotos
