This section of US 62 is classified as a major collector and links Calvert City and it industrial and tourism industries to I24/I69. This segment is the only portion between the I24/I69 interchnages that has not been upgraded to 4 lanes.
This route does not provide direct access to a multi modal facility such as a riverport, airport or rail facility. It does link with a existing pedestrian facility constructed by Calvert City. Calvert also has future plans to build additional pedestrian facilities that could impact this corridor.
Design funds have been requested and the project is being advertised in January 2021.

Portions of this corridor are 4 lane with 12' lanes and 6' shoulder. The segment east of KY 1523 is 2 lane with no center turn lane. There are a lot of access points along this corridor.
There is congestion in the segment of the roadway that transitions to 2 lanes. There is commercial development along corridor as well as industrial and tourism activities served by this corridor. Improve of the 2 lane section would improve traffic flow through the corridor. Improvements at the signlaized intersections with KY 95, KY 1523 and Kennedy Dr. will also reduce congestion.
The two most recent counts from CTS for this segment of US 62 are 6068 east of KY 1523 with 17.4% trucks and 9062 west of KY 1523 with 12.5% trucks. The section east of KY 1523 had a traffic count of 8943 in 2015. It is likely that the construction work on the I24 interchage and the adjacent section of US 62 east of the interchange has led to this temporary decrease in traffic. The segment west of KY 1523 was unaffected by this construction work and has shown a steady increase in volume over the past 10 years.
Crash research revealed 37 accidents in the past 3 years. The majority of these were concentrated at the intersections with KY 95 and KY 1523.

No 401/404 permits anticipated since only roadside ditches present. KPDES permit for 1 acre contiguous disturbance likely.

None seen. Area is heavily disturbed. Right of way was purchased for four lanes when highway was constructed. PA2s needed for clearance.
No habitat no effect expected.
One gas station present, with possible UST encroachments. Other businesses are adjacent to the alignment and need historical analysis at minimum.

The US 62 corridor serves as a major collector that provides access to Calvert City and the surrounding area. This portion of northern Marshall County has both manufacturing and tourists assets that are served by this route. This section of US 62 is also linked by two interchanges of I24/I69. US 62 currently has an ADT of approximately 6,000, with a truck percentage of 17%. On the east end, this project ties into a project which brought a pedestrian path and other beautification measures to the section of US 62 from the interstate to KY Dam Village SRP. Calvert City also has plans to extend their pedestrian access along Lone Valley Rd. The corridor has issues with congestion, safety, and pedestrian access.
The purpose of the project is to improve mobility, safety and traffic flow. Another goal of the project would incorporate Calvert City's existing pedestrian plan into the corridor.
The scope should include safety and capacity upgrades to the signalized intersections with KY 95 and KY 1523. The section between KY 1523 and Kennedy Dr should be evaluated for 3 and 5 lane options. The intersection with Lone Valley Rd/Kennedy Dr. should be evaluted for alternative intersection concepts. The project should also address compatibility with the pedestrian facilities previously constructed by Calvert City.
