Scientific Method

Alexa Wollach

What is Science?According to Webster:"knowledge attained through study or

practice," or "knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, esp. as obtained and tested through scientific method [and] concerned with the physical world."

What does this mean to you?

Why would this be important for people to do?

We can ask…

Where is Science?

EVERYWHERE!!!!!

Examples of Science in the World

6 Step Process1. Ask a Question2. Do research on the subject3. Construct a Hypothesis4. Test Your Hypothesis by

Doing an Experiment5. Analyze Your Data and

Draw a Conclusion6. Compare results with

classmates

1. Ask a question• Questions are based off of

something OBSERVED (something you have seen with your own eyes)

• Questions need to be about something we could as a class measure

We could then ask…• How, What, When, Who,

Which, Why, or Where?

2. Do ResearchOnce we came up with the question we

can then research the subject• Library • Internet• Videos

3. Construct a Hypothesis

• Come up with what we think will happen

• If/ then statement• If this happens then this will also

happen

4. Test your Hypothesis By doing

an ExperimentYAY! The best part of the scientific

method!!!• Test the experiment • Write down observations• follow ALL directions!

5. Analyze your Data and Draw a Conclusion• Look at all of the observations you

wrote down• Are there any similarities?• Are there any differences?• Was your hypothesis correct?

6. Compare Results with Classmates

• Compare what you wrote with what the other students in your class observed

• Did you have similar observations?• Why do you think everyone's results

were similar?
