WelcomeGeneral Information

This information, along with all policies and procedures, are available on our website (www.dvc.edu/college4kids). Please review all policies online prior to registering your child. Our site can be translated via Google Translate into a number of languages for your convenience.

The College for Kids program serves students entering grades 4-9 the following school year. We design our curricula to meet he needs of the general student population.

Parent Orientation: Parent orientations are only available for the Pleasant Hill campus due to the size of the campus and logistics. We are offering two options for orientations - one on May 20th and another on June 3rd - both from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Both parents and students must pre-register. Registration opens April 10th at www.dvc.edu/college4kids. You only need to register for one of the dates, not both. Parking permits are not required for orientations.

For San Ramon, parents will receive information regarding procedures for that campus prior to the first day via email.

Whether you cannot attend an orientation or if one is not available, parents are still encouraged to visit the campus where their child will be attending prior to the first day of class.

Planning Your Child’s Summer:When reviewing the class details and planning your child’s summer with us, please make note of the dates, days, times, locations and fees listed for each camp. Our schedule has changed from last summer. You may sign your child up for one, two or three classes each week, but classes must be consecutively scheduled – no breaks between classes. There is no supervision for students outside of class time. Students are also not escorted to classes, between classes, to restrooms, water fountain or to the parking lots at the end of their day.

Scholarships Scholarships are available for qualifying students. More information and applications are available at www.dvc.edu/college4kids.

Refund PolicyFamilies who wish to drop a class must do so no less than close of business (5 p.m.) 7 days prior to the start date of the class or they will not receive a refund (no partial refunds are given). For example, a class that starts on June 20, must be dropped by 5 p.m. on June 14. Please note that classes start on different weeks, which will change the drop deadline. Please allow 2 – 4 weeks to receive a refund, depending on payment method.

All children will receive the Spectrum of Science Chemistry Lab Workbook via e-mail at the end of the session! TWTH 12:50-4:00pm 6/27-6/29 GR 4-6 $130TWTH 12:50-4:00pm 7/18-7/20 GR 6-8 $130

Chemistry 103 SCRAPPING WITH CHEMISTRY! Learn techniques to make paper old quickly! Test a variety of inks while you stamp along! Make a technique tab ring for future reference! Decoupage on wood rounds! Be creative - ideas, inspira-tions and mediums abound! Glitter & glow projects! WTH 12:50-4:00pm 7/5-7/6 GR 4-6 $115TWTH 12:50-4:00pm 7/25-7/27 GR 6-8 $130

Physics 201 PHYSICS LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE!! Remember the scientific method? Imagine - experiment - design it - make it! Crumble it, charge it, rip it, snip it, drip it, drop it! Can you duplicate it? Release your inner scientific imagination! And have fun! Physics works! TWTH 12:50-4:00pm 6/20-6/22 GR 6-8 $150TWTH 12:50-4:00pm 7/11-7/13 GR 4-6 $150

Physics 202 PHYSICS & FUN! Bend the rules & create with curves! Join in this mish mash of destruct & reconstruct! Your imagination, your design, your project! Will it become a robot or a space explorer? Make it move or light up! Observe it, smash it & build a “what’s It”! This is elemen-tary physics in action! TWTH 12:50-4:00pm 6/27-6/29 GR 6-8 $150TWTH 12:50-4:00pm 7/18-7/20 GR 4-6 $150

Physics 203FULL TILT PHYSICS! Find a different way of looking at “things”! Study sameness of scale from hills to moun-tains! Know about fractals? Find order in chaos! What happens when there is a change in energy? Understand forced resonance? TWTH 12:50-4:00pm 7/25-7/27 GR 4-6 $150

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY LEGO RoboticsExplore the world of robotics using the new LEGO® Mindstorms EV3® line. You’ll build robots which use motors and sensors to perform tasks and react to their environment. Then, learn how to program the bots using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® software - an icon-based programming language. It’s easy to learn, and introduces the concepts of logic, programming with objects, and functions, such as loops and conditional statements.TWTH 12:50-1:50pm 6/20-7/6 GR 4-6 $60 (no class 7/4)TWTH 1:55-2:50pm 6/20-7/6 GR 4-6 $60 (no class 7/4)TWTH 3:00-4:00pm 6/20-7/6 GR 4-6 $60 (no class 7/4)TWTH 12:50-1:50pm 7/11-7/27 GR 4-6 $65TWTH 1:55-2:55pm 7/11-7/27 GR 4-6 $65 TWTH 3:00-4:00pm 7/11-7/27 GR 4-6 $65
