MISSION STATEMENT

The Schuylkill United Way is dedicated to providing funding, guidance, and encouragement to the 15 partner agencies that provide a variety of programs and services to the residents of Schuylkill County for

little to no charge.

Together We Can... We are pleased to present you this copy of our recently published Annual Report including Pacesetters Club Report to you—our valued supporters, volunteers, and friends. We hope you will take a few minutes to review the many accomplishments of your United Way during the past year. You can take a great deal of pride in knowing that your kindness and generosity helps to advance the common good each day for all in our community. The Schuylkill United Way works to advance the common good by focusing on the building blocks for a good life—a quality education, financial stability, and good health. Even during these trying times, we are extremely grateful for your support in helping us achieve our goal in the 2014 “Together We Can” Campaign, where we raised $1,027,000. Our accomplishments are possible through the dedicated efforts of our 15 partner agencies, and all of the donors, businesses, individuals, schools, and volunteers that demonstrated a phenomenal commitment to the annual campaign. We can look back on 2013 as a year of hard work and generosity. As we look forward, we are encouraged by the ongoing support of Schuylkill County and our continued commitment to creating better opportunities and a stronger community for all. Thank you for working with us because together we can! Sincerely,

Kelly K. Malone Patrick Kane Executive Director President, Board of Directors Schuylkill United Way Schuylkill United Way

Annual Campaign – All donations are raised from September till November through the generosity of corporate, employee and individual giving. Campaign helps donors to increase their knowledge and understanding of, access to and involvement with the Schuylkill United Way and its 15 partner agencies.

Pacesetters Club– Pacesetters “set the pace” for the Annual Campaign and finish their portion of the donation drive before Campaign Kick-Off officially begins. Members of the Pacesetters Club are individuals throughout Schuylkill County who contribute a minimum of $500 towards the Annual Campaign. Levels of giving range from Copper($500-$749) through Platinum($2500+) depending on contribution amount.

Day of Caring – Day of Caring was developed to help connect donors to a meaningful volunteer experience by giving them the opportunity to learn more about the agencies that they monetarily support. In May 2013, over 199 volunteers rolled their sleeves up and completed numerous community service projects for 11 of the 15 partner agencies.

Stuff the Bus – A month long school supply drive held each July. In 2013, Stuff the Bus collected 1200 back-packs, stuffed them with school supplies and delivered them to our partner agencies to be distributed to children in need throughout Schuylkill County.

Myfreetaxes.com— The MyFreeTaxes Partnership provides free federal and state

tax preparation and filing assistance for qualified individuals. It's easy, safe, secure and 100 percent free. Check out www.myfreetaxes.com/schuylkillunitedway for more in-formation.

Prescription Assistance –The FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card (www.familywize.org) is available to anyone. Since the program launched in 2008, Schuylkill County residents have saved over $1,000,000 on the cost of prescriptions. The card is free, however, it only provides discounts on the medicine, not free medi-cine.

Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP) – The Schuylkill United Way serves as the local administrator for the FEMA program which provides funds to supplement and extend current available resources for emergency needs including rent, food and energy assistance. In recent years, funds have been greatly diminished. However, the money we do receive is distributed to five local organizations: Catholic Charities, Pottsville Salvation Army, Tamaqua Salvation Army, Schuylkill Women in Crisis, and Schuylkill Community Action.

Stamp Out Hunger -On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Campbell Soup Company joined forces with the

National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to help Stamp Out Hunger across America. Now in its 20th year, the annual food drive has grown from a regional to a national effort that provides assistance to the millions of Americans struggling to put food on the table. The Stamp Out Hunger food drive, held on the second Saturday in May, has become the nation’s largest single-day food drive benefitting Feed-ing America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Supporting the drive again this year is the U.S. Postal Service, local United Way’s, including the Schuylkill United Way, the AFL-CIO, and Feeding America.

The Schuylkill United Way participates in the following committees for the betterment of Schuylkill County: Capital Campaign Coordination Committee, State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA), United Way of Pennsylvania Board of Directors, and Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Orwigsburg Lions, and Pottsville Kiwanis

Community Resource Guide— The “Guide to Community Resources” is compiled for

people who may be facing a variety of circumstances in their life. This is a listing of phone numbers, websites and emails of people who can help you in a time of need. Please take advantage of the commu-nity services that are available right here in Schuylkill County. The Guide is available online or in print.

JE Morgan Foundation $50,000 Matching Pacesetters Grant

Once again we were able to secure the JE Morgan Foundation $50,000 Matching Pacesetters Grant for the 2014 Campaign. A total of 401 Pacesetters contributed to the 2014 Campaign for a combined giving amount of $362,000.

On behalf of the board, and our agencies, we are very appreciative of the generous contribution by the JE Morgan Foundation and would like to thank them for being community minded and for contributing to the Schuylkill United Way. It has allowed us to garner new funds for the 2014 Campaign.
