Frankly I am giddily excited to share this collection of events with school friends new and old. Crammed with talks, poetry, provocations, discussions, workshops, and some intensely kind and interesting artists spilling the contents of their brains like word-confetti, this program has been carefully cooked up by the creative masterchefs at MWF to speak to us all as students, writers, readers and humans.

The 2018 Festival theme explores life, death, joy, impermanence, art and survival. We all reach for what we need at various stages in our lives in order to keep going. I hope you find something you need in this program.

Marieke HardyArtistic Director

Welcome to the MWF Schools’ Program

Our exciting four-day program is focused on survival. We’re starting big – the Festival’s first-ever kids’ keynote will be Triple J’s Dr Karl talking about the survival of the human race. There’ll be our first-ever debate, sessions with kids in the interviewing chair, plus a hilariously cathartic event about getting your period, one on surviving online anxiety and a discussion about gender identity and equality. There’ll also be hands-on workshops on manga drawing and turning your poem into a song, and performances and interactive booksplosions all over Fed Square. I, for one, can’t wait.
