Strack Intermediate opened its doors in 1978 with an enrollment of 962 students. Strack is named in honor of Herman Strack, the oldest of five sons who came to Texas from Prussia in 1848. The first principal of Strack Intermediate was Ken Laird. The Strack Cougars have been an important part of the community for more than thirty years, welcoming students from Benfer, Haude, Kuehnle and Roth elementary schools. Strack is a place where the staff looks at the needs of each student in order to establish a safe, nurturing environment where each child can feel safe to learn, to be successful, to have a sense of belonging, and to have pride in their school.

Strack parents play a key role in the success at Strack. Most volunteer efforts go through the Strack PTO, an active and involved group of parents who provide a variety of services to the students and staff through activities such as helping with school supply sales, the concession stand at football games, creating the memory book, providing the Red Ribbon Week party, organizing various staff luncheons and teacher appreciation activities, assisting with state testing, planning and conducting the 8th grade end of year party, and many other activities.

Strack Intermediate is rated as a Met Standard campus in Klein ISD.

Strack’s counseling department prides itself on being the heartbeat of the school. The counselors strive to give every individual a feeling of selfworth and dignity; help them understand and accept themselves; enable everyone to fully develop his/her potential; and help every student achieve greater self-direction in situations where he/she must exercise choice. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the greatest possible degree of self-realization for each student. Counseling activities focus on providing direction for decision-making, goal-setting, social skills, peer pressure, conflict management, and parent education.

Special ProgramsThe Strack special programs are second to none. Whether it be technology, the fine arts, intramurals, or groups like No Place for Hate, the Guitar Club, the Memory Book Club, National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, or various other clubs, there is something for every interest at Strack Intermediate School. An active and involved student enriches their school experience.

Strack Intermediate provides a strong core foundation for student learning. Classes are offered in math, science, social studies, and English Language Arts (ELA) where regular, Pre-Advanced Placement (AP), Gifted and Talented (GT), and classes offering additional assistance may be offered. Thisstrong core emphasis has lead to Strack being a Recognized campus on the Texas Accountability ratings for eight years, the only secondary school in Klein with that distinction. Strack follows the district curriculum for basic instruction, which is:

English Language Arts (ELA)ELA instruction at the intermediate school expands and develops reading and writing skills that are introduced in elementary school. Writing and reading are the core units of study in all three grade levels. Students are taught to write for various audiences, purposes, and modes; grammar skills; and practice techniques in spelling, word usage, punctuation, capitalization, and handwriting. In reading, students apply learned reading skills in both fiction and nonfiction reading selections. The study of literature also increases in intermediate school.

MathAt the intermediate level, students build a foundation of understandings in number, operation, and quantitative reasoning; patterns, relationships, and algebraic thinking; geometry and spatial reasoning; measurement; and probability and statistics.

ScienceAt the intermediate level students learn science skills and learn to identify components of the solar system including the sun, planets, moon, and asteroids; systems of the human body; and relationship between force and motion.

Social StudiesIn grades K-12, students build a foundation in history, geography, economics, government, citizenship, culture, science, technology and society, and social studies skills. The content, as appropriate for the grade level or course, enables students to understand the importance of patriotism, function in a free enterprise society, and appreciate the basic democratic values of our state and nation.

Athletic ProgramsStrack Intermediate School has a long tradition of excellence on the field of competition. Intermediate school athletics are a time when the development of character, dedication, and an understanding of the importance of hard work and teamwork are the true championship. During more than 30 years of striving to build athletes of great character and dedication, Strack has achieved more than 181 district championships in sports ranging from football, volleyball, cross country, basketball, track, tennis and swimming.
