RESCHEDULED
YEAR 8 AND 9 STUDENTS
Excelling in STEM On Thursday, 25 March, nine Year 8 and 9 students were invited to attend a STEM
challenge at Hale School along with other schools from across Western Australia. Students were allocated a
group and given two tasks:
first a decoding mapping
activity and the second task
to construct an observation
platform that scientists
could use to monitor the
growth of the Wollemi
Pines in north east Sydney.
Their structure needed to
have three platforms and
stand at a total height of
1.5m. The groups across
the room came up with a
range of well built and
creative designs with Lexi
Burnett’s (Year 8) group
coming in at first place.
The evening was a great
success with the students
engaging in the activity and
building strong team work
skills.
A very big thank you to
Design and Technology
teacher, Mr Jasinski for
organising this event and
to Miss Outtrim for
stepping in at the last
minute and travelling with
the group.
See information later in
this issue regarding a
STEM Club for Year 7 to
9s next term.

Year 6 Science – Chemical Energy
As part of their Physical Science, Year 6 students were learning
about how a battery works involving electrons, kinetic and
chemical energy. They completed the unit of work by making a
circuit to make a light globe work and demonstrated their learning
via a annotated diagram

KINDY EASTER CELEBRATIONS
The Easter Bunny has been to Kindergarten….
Our Kindy groups have been
getting into the spirit of Easter.
They have been making Easter bonnets
and collecting eggs from their Easter
egg hunt while practicing positional
language to hunt around the
playground.
Our Kindy A group is pictured below
wearing their creations.
Primary Art Club
Time flies when you’re having fun and we have had some fun this term in Art
Club.
Art Club is proving to be very popular among the students with attendance
growing by the week. So far, the students have been busy using their artistic
flair to design and create bookmarks with woollen tassels, a collaborative
mural for Harmony Week and most recently, salt dough Easter decorations.
Mrs Lee has been extremely impressed with the dedication, attitudes and
overall behaviour of all members who attend Art Club and I am looking
forward to more fun and creativity in the coming terms.
Each year hundreds of schools across
Australia create Story-Dances for Wakakirri
that reflect student’s thoughts, ideas and
inspirations. This year, Year 3/4 teachers,
Miss De Gouw and Mrs Nell are preparing
approximately 30 Year 3, 4 and 5 students to
perform a 3-7 minute item. Students currently
practice once per week during a break time
and will start to enhance this with after-school
practice soon.
More information will be communicated
soon. You can find out more about Wakakirri
at www.wakakirri.com.
Each student from Rooms 5.2, 5.3 and
5.4 designed a scarecrow as part of our
Design Technology unit for Term 1.
Students had to decide on the equipment
they would use to design their
scarecrow and ensure it was sustainable.
Once complete, students participated in
a gallery walk to determine the people’s
choice, which was then designed by
three students (Cruiz Page, Lucas
Dumbleton and Isabella Cooper,
pictured above). The Scarecrow was
then entered into the Bullsbrook
Community Fair Scarecrow
Competition on Sunday, 28 March.
Well done to all of our Scarecrow
Designers.

Primary Dance Lessons are Coming!!! As communicated at parent information sessions at
the start of this year, all Primary students will
participate in an eight-week series of dance lessons
in either Term 2, 3 or 4.
This is part of our Movement and Physical Exercise program
and participation is compulsory. Humphreys Dance Studio
give us a very generous discount for these lessons – costs
will remain the same as last year at $36 per student. This
year there are discounts available so that no family will be
required to pay for any more than two children. Invoices will
be issued at the beginning of each term.
Year 11 ATAR Biology
Students from the Year 11 ATAR Biology class went to Rottnest Island last week on a three day camp. This A Class wildlife reserve and marine sanctuary gave the students the opportunity to observe the unique wildlife and conservation and land management programs used on the island. Highlights from the camp where the quokkas and the stunning pink lake found in the centre of the island, which contains a wild population of brine shrimp known as red sea monkeys.
We would like to acknowledge two of our Year 6
students who are seeing some great results
through their commitment and dedication to
their chosen sports.
Doing Us Proud!
SPORTING SUCCESSES
Chilli Broughton (pictured right)
recently competed in the 2021
WA Little Athletics State

shot put and a place in long jump.
Chilli then competed in the 2021
WA Little Athletics Track and

Damon Bennett has been selected by School
Sport WA to represent his Rugby League club
and Bullsbrook College in the NRL 2021 Junior
State Championships competition from 9 – 11
April during the school holidays. Damon will be
compelting in the Under 12s division, which is
the next grade up from his
normal grade. Congratuations Damon.
It was a hot, dusty and busy day with an estimated 16,000 attendees coming
out to see what our community had on display.
It is the Centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and the local
RAAF base Pearce had a PC21 flyover, static military display, a Cadets
Marching Band, rescue helicopter and many more attractions.
There were lots of free events for the local community including a Dunk Tank
where Mr Cocliff was mercilessly “dunked”.
2021 Bullsbrook Country Fair
A big thank you to our
student helpers on the day;
Leoj Dela Cruz, Kelly
Frost, Adonis Ramirez,
Ruth McDermott, Kylah
Williams, Carla Vicedo
and Dustyn Page and
teachers; Rebecca
Sajtinac, Troy Sage, Ricki
Cocliff, Dean Robbins and
Trevor Hazelden.
Thank you also to all the
volunteers on the day and
the Bullsbrook Country
Fair Committee for
organising another
brilliant event.
Bright and early on Sunday, 28 March, the
Certificate III in Music Industry (sound
production) and Beyond Bullsbrook students met
at the fair ground to set up the stage for the live
music on the day. The Beyond Bullsbrook stall
included games, selling slime and woodwork
projects.
STEM CLUB Coming in Term 2…..
Next term Design and Technology teacher, Mr
Jasinski will run the ‘First Lego League
Challenge’ STEM Club during second break on
Mondays and first break on Tuesdays.
This club is aimed at interested Year 7 to 9
students and depending on it’s success, may be
expanded to other cohorts later in the year.
The First Lego League Challenge is a friendly
competition where teams of students engage in
research, problem-solving, coding and
engineering. They will build and program a
Lego robot that navigates the missions of a robot
game.
Students are encouraged to speak with Mr
Jasinski if they would like any further
information regarding the STEM Club.
