The School of Public Leadership is committed to community-relevant, internationally and nationally competitive, academic and professional teaching, research and provision of services in the fields of planning, public policy analysis, public management, development and environmental management, aimed at the promotion of sustainable development in a participative and fair manner.
To this end, the teaching, research, consulting and community work programmes of the School are designed to foster professional excellence, social entrepreneurship, reflective leadership, effective management, and the competencies needed to work within complex, multi-disciplinary, networked and diverse operating environments. Spread over three campuses (Stellenbosch, Bellville and Lynedoch), the SPL offers learning opportunities in a variety of stimulating environments.

• Postgraduate Programmes in Public and Development Management
• Postgraduate Programmes in Sustainable Development Planning and Management
• Postgraduate Programme in Environmental Management
All our formal academic programmes are taught in blended mode, meaning that short duration direct and real time interaction by means of telematics and campus contact time are combined with learning by means of electronic media.
EXECUTIVE PROGRAMMES AND SHORT COURSES
The executive programmes and products of the School of Public Leadership are the result of knowledge gained from rigorous research on contemporary issues and international best practices. All facilitators / researchers are permanent or extraordinary academic appointees of Stellenbosch University, and all courses are fully quality controlled and accredited as determined by the University and the Higher Education Qualification Committee. The products are the only sector-specific accredited products of Stellenbosch University with articulation to advanced degrees in public and development management. They provide access to, or credit for modules of the advanced degrees.
Our stand-alone courses are either accredited modules or part of modules of our various formal programmes. We also offer a range of general public management as well as sector-specific management development programmes. Furthermore, we are an accredited service provider to the National Treasury / Local Government Seta Municipal Minimum Competence Programme. Products can also be customised and tailor-made to suit specific needs.
Our executive programmes and short courses are “open” based programmes which run throughout the year and are presented at the Bellville Park Campus, but can also be presented “in house” all over South Africa.
