Certificate Course in
Biofertilizer Production Technology (CBPT)
About the University
Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North
Maharashtra University, Jalgaon is a leading
University in the Maharashtra State established
in 1991 and its graduates are recognized across
the world.
The University is recognized by National
Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC),
Bengaluru with ‘A’ grade (score: 3.11) in the 3rd
cycle of re-accreditation.
The National Institutional Ranking
Framework (NIRF) of Ministry of Human
Resource Development ranked the University as
the 59th among “All Universities” category in
2016; ranked 56-60 QS University ranking in
India; and 241-250 in BRICS.
The academic programs of the University
also nurtures various skills and competencies
among the students in order to make them
ready for industry. Towards this, the University
has planned to offer value-added course in
Biofertilizer Production Technology (CBPT).
Why Biofertilizers?
The indiscriminate use of synthetic
chemical fertilizers during past four decades
for increasing the agricultural produce has
affected soil fertility, the water retention
capacity and micronutrients content in the soil.
Hence, the concept of biofertilizers is being
promoted all over the world. The biofertilizers
are nothing but tiny beneficial microbes that
enhances availability of plant nutrients to host
plant and protect plants from pathogen
challenges when applied.
Application of biofertilizers is being
advocated by the environment for sustainable
agriculture. However, both availability and
quantity with quality biofertilizers is confined to
limited areas. Besides, there is a need to
popularize the biofertilizer use among the
farmers. In spite of the efforts, well trained
skilled manpower to start-up small biofertilizer
production units is not available in the country.
Therefore, the university propose to develop a
skill development CBDT so that skilled manpower
from the course should also be employable in
the region.
Course Objectives• To promote organic farming in the region through technical capacity building of all stakeholders
• To facilitate the students to understand basics of biofertilizers
• To impart training to develop skills about handling, cultivation, and propagation of quality microbial
inoculants
• To provide exposure to biofertilizer production technology
• To make students ready for industry as entrepreneurs
• To improve the professional competencies and upgrade the knowledge and develop technical skills
of biofertilizer production
Biofertilizer Market PotentialThe application of biofertilizer has
reached beyond 27 MT with annual average
growth rate of 20% in India and expected to
increase at 14% by 2021 at global level.
The area under cultivation of crops in
India for which biofertilizers can be used is 4.84
lakh hectares. Assuming a consumption of 500 g
per hectare, the potential demand for
biofertilizers will be 2.42 lakh tonnes. The
present domestic consumption is less than 3%
of the potential market. Proper training and
skilled manpower with awareness drives can
increase the demand for biofertilizer market.
Course Suited For:• Start-up entrepreneurs willing to undertake
biofertilizer business
• Individuals from the biofertilizers industry
engaged in production and quality assurance
• Teaching faculty willing to upgrade their
professional skills in biofertilizers
• Marginal as well as small farmers willing to
adopt biofertilizer technology for sustainable
agriculture
• Students looking forward to research and
development work in biofertilizer industry
after completion of program
• Candidate with knowledge of biofertilizer can
find job opportunities with diverse profiles in
industry
About 86% of biofertilizer production is contributed by
6 Indian states. Maharashtra ranks 6th in India
