Oak Crest PTA Newsletter Principal’s Portion Commercial Recently many students of the Oak Crest family starred in a national Oklahoma tourism commercial! Everyone learned about the action that takes place behind the scenes of film making. The large cast and crew instructed the students to “look with amazement and curiosity” as they walked through the captivating shark tank tunnel at Jenks Aquarium while singing the tune of Oklahoma! The producer, a parent of an Oak Crest student, donated 500.00 to our activity fund as a thank you for the hard work and dedication the children exhibited while filming. Oak Crest students and families will be provided a web based link to “the making of the commercial and the actual commercial” in the near future. Once released, our entire family will watch it together through our in-school broadcasting system! Thank you everyone! You did a great job! Oak Crest Elementary Principal- Mrs. Adams Asst. All components of the move are being carefully considered and designed with a team effort. More information will be provided when the plan is fully developed and reviewed.

Happenings at Oak CrestTHIRD GRADE CABBAGE PROGRAM

Oak Crest third grade students received a free cabbage plant from Bonnie Plants. Third grade students were excited to take these cabbage plants home! Mrs. Shanda Heatherly's father, Mr. Chalake, came to her third grade class room to visit with students about plants. He is a self-employed landscaper. While visiting with the class, he demonstrated how to plant the cabbage plant, how to give it the best care, and how to harvest it. He assisted students in planting flowers, so they could see for themselves the life cycle of plants and their needs.

There is a National competition for the best cabbage grown by a student {the state winner is selected with the help of our state Department of Agriculture through a random drawing}. Best luck to all students that proceed with this program! For more information, please visit www.bonnieplants.com.

Families, when you and your child decide that their cabbage is grown, please take a picture of the cabbage WITH YOUR CHILD. You will also need: the date the cabbage was planted, the date the cabbage was harvested, and the weight of the cabbage (you could take it to the grocery store to weigh it). Keep the picture and details handy, and be prepared to turn these in to school when we return in August. A "cabbage committee" at Oak Crest will decide which cabbages are best, and complete entries for them.

The PTA will continue to sell spirit wear every Friday morning before class.  We also will be selling it at the Book Fair on Tue. (5/7) in the morning and at the PTA Unit meeting on Thur. (5/9).  All merchandise has been discounted. Oak Crest tee-shirts are $5, hoodies are $10 and car plates are $3. Please get your spirit wear while supplies last!

Congratulations to Oak Crest’s Tera Landrum on being named District Teacher of the Year!!

Oak Crest PTA Newsletter Page 3Oak Crest Fine Arts Student of the Year

Jane Smith is pleased to announce that Alyssa Bauman is the Oak Crest Fine Arts Student of the Year.

Alyssa is not just a member of the Tiger Tunes choir at Oak Crest!  Her involvement and leadership in Tiger Tunes alone qualifies her for this award.  Alyssa is a leader in many ways.  She is a member of the Oak Crest Broadcasting team, bringing the latest news to our student body.  Alyssa is also a member of the Oak Crest Tiger Stripes.  The Tigers Stripes (Oak Crest Unified Bowling Team) consists of eight special education students who each had a fourth or fifth grader as a partner.  They worked together to earn medals at the Special Olympics.  As you can see, Alyssa is a beautiful, well-rounded student!

Oak Crest Elementary Proudly Presents the2012-13 Masonic Students of Today

Grace Daniels from Mrs. Tera Landrum’s classroom is a delightful and vibrant young lady.  She is a leader in our classroom in every sense of the word.  Grace is an attentive learner, helpful to her peers, respectful to all, and works through difficulties to ensure her academic success.  She recognizes her weaknesses and works to improve them.  She recognizes her strengths and capitalizes on them.  Grace has a wonderfully supportive family who loves and values her as much as she loves and values them.  Grace is a student that makes those around her feel hopeful about the future.Miguel Abad, also from Mrs. Landrum’s classroom, is a diligent, hardworking student who never gives less than his best. Miguel gets along great with his peers because he is kind and caring. He is also one of the most selfless kids I know, giving away more than he keeps. For these reasons, and many more, we are blessed to have Miguel at Oak Crest and to see the wonderful example he is setting for the future!
