Library News Thank you to everyone who came and supported the school book fair last week. We

had great sales and this will help towards the purchase of new books and resources

for the school library. The Premier’s Reading Challenge finished two weeks ago.

Congratulations to 5N who had everyone in their class complete the challenge. Also

well done to the following students who took to reading more than the required

numbers – just because they love to read…. Chelsea Sahariv (Prep H) 121 books, Scarlett Hansen (Prep B) 60

books, Hunter Hansen (Year 1W) 165 books, Jack Weier (Year 1W) 60 books, Jordan-Jane Sherrin (Year 2J) 40

Whip-cracking News The whip-cracking team had a wonderful time doing a demonstration for the Nanango Music Muster last

Thursday. Mr Kotzur and Mr Landherr were so proud of the students and the incredible talent they displayed so

confidently. The audience absolutely appreciated and were in awe of the students’ talents. It brought back many

memories for lots of people of cracking whips when they were younger. Thank you for all your hard work, we are

proud of your commitment and dedication.

Secondary Snippets Poet’s Café - The first Poet’s Café held at St John’s was a huge success. Students bravely shared their original

works with the audience. I was extremely proud of all the students who were able to attend. It was also heartening

to know that many other students wanted to attend but could not due to prior commitments. Poetry is best heard

and being able to gauge the audience’s reaction is also priceless. I thank all of the audience for attending and hope

they enjoyed the evening as much as I did - I found it an uplifting experience. I would also like to thank Steve

Petersen for sharing some of his poetry with us. I have selected poems to enter into the OzKids Print magazine to

see if we can get them published, and we will also be entering various competitions. Jodie Springhall

Relay for Life - Our Relay for Life school team has been fundraising through

various events throughout the year. Thank you to everyone in our school community who

have supported their fundraising efforts. We understand there are many people in our school

community that have had, or are caring for, a loved one with a cancer diagnosis, and that

they may wish to donate directly to the team. To make a donation please go to:

relayforlife.org.au, search ‘St John’s Lutheran School Kingaroy’, click on the ‘Donate’ link and

follow the instructions from here. All funds go towards Cancer Council Qld and supporting patients,

their families and research towards a cancer free future.

Relay for Life Donations Needed - If anyone has any items that could be used as prizes for games, we are

running at the Relay for Life event, we would love some donations. Items should be new - e.g. toys, unwanted

gifts, any of these things will be appreciated. Also donations of chocolates for the chocolate toss would be very

helpful. Please drop them in to the school office.

Student Well-Being When someone is in a closed mindset, they give up easily, they don’t try

things that might be hard, and they don’t believe that they can learn. When

someone has an open mindset they don’t give up, they believe they can

learn and that, in a sense, their brain can grow. As a whole school, we

read ‘The Dot’ by Peter Reynolds to underpin the ‘Power of Yet’. Students

painted dots to raise awareness of making a mark and making a

difference. The dot display is attracting lots of attention.

Wondai Show Results Ten art pieces were entered in the Wondai Show two weeks ago. Four pieces were awarded places. We congratulate

Chloe Black (Photo 1) and Will Trace (Photo 2) on their first places. Hannes De Jager received a second place with

his Inukshuk (Photo 3) and Ashley Roberts landed a third place with his portrait. (Photo 4). Congratulations to all

these budding artists. Mrs Coetzee says she has the best job teaching such talented students.

NRL Rugby League Gala Day It was a fantastic day at the NRL 6-a-side Rugby League Gala day

at St John's on Monday. Nine teams from our school competed

across four divisions. Well done to all of the teams and players

involved. For some students, this was the first time they had

played either Rugby League or League Tag. Congratulations to

the Year 3/4 boys league team and Year 5/6 girls league tag team

for winning their divisions. Well done also to our Year 5/6 boys

league team and our second 5/6 girls league tag team for making

the grand finals. So close! Matty Reddacliff was selected as player

of his division, well done! A big thank you to Mrs Sandra Prain and

Mr Cameron Murphy for supplying jerseys for the teams today.

Finally, thank you to Mr Blake Mara and his team for all of the

organisation and effort that went into the gala day. A huge effort!

Swimming Week Our Swimming Week for students in Prep to Year 4 will run next term from Monday, the 11th of November to

Thursday, the 14th of November. Our swimming carnival will be on Friday, the 15th of November. We will send

home more details next term.

Happy Holidays! One of the things kids look forward to in the holidays is academic downtime, but reading and being involved in arts and other activities can help keep their minds sharp during the holidays. Here are some fun ways to keep learning, while having some fun doing it.

Read Ingredients while you bake together. It’s a great way to learn measurement and temperature.

Set aside time for kids to "show off" their new reading skills to visiting relatives. Children love being the focus of attention, and grandparents are usually more than willing to see their progress.

Find books that focus on an interest your child has.

Read and talk about books in the car.

Take part in story times at your local library. The most important part, however, is to have a great break and enjoy your school holidays. Please stay safe and we look forward to a great Term 4! Mrs BP
