If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.Philip said to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.Jesus said to him, Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. ~John 14:1-14 Serving Our Lord This Week Elders Tom Kimmel, Russ Gazdag, Curt Gottlieb, Cliff O'Brien 9a Ushers Jim Leese, Weldon Schwiebert, Mel Tockstein, Andy Stupperich 11:15am Ushers Mel Tockstein, Mark Hagemann, William MacMain Altar Guild Gloria Even, Jodi Ross, Ann Baron, Joy Holloway Greeters 9a Leonard Vincent/Mary Brown 11:15a Gloria Gatesy Week of 5/7/17 ~ Week 45 ~ 87% of our fiscal year completed Revenue Type Rec'd Last Week Wkly Need Rec'd YTD Annual Goal Plate Offerings $9,393 $440,967 $521,890 Special Gifts/Power the Ministry $175 $6,333 $31,640 FFF $80 $56,119 $43,503 Total o/u goal $9,648 ($1,833) $11,481 $503,419 $(13,244) $597,033 Tuition (School Yr) $11,756 $198,346 (82% to yearly goal) $241,214 Early Learning Ctr (Fiscal Yr) $5,920 $70,607 (85% recd to goal) $83,000 Third Source $0 $53,638 (91% rec'd to goal) $59,000 FFF $0 $40,000 $40,000 Totals $27,324 $827,339 (Revenue is at 81% of budget) $1,020,247 Rev.Kurt Lambart AssociatePastor + AndreaUnger Principal + TaraHerzberg ELC Director + PaulLehman MusicDirector + KevinShay PraiseTeamLeader + 5885Venoy Westland MI 48185 734.425.0260/0261 www.stmatthew.info 5th Sunday of Easter May 14, 2017 ~Blessed Mother’s Day~ School News! ELC We have been super busy working on a few surprises for our moms. We are also having fun preparing for our crossing over celebration. We are praying for good weather as we head to the Zoo on Wednesday. Kindergarten has been very busy as we were preparing for mother's day and grandparents day. We began learning how to tell time. We enjoyed reading Amelia's Road and also Crunchy Munchy cookies. We learned about Pentecost, the day when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples. We are excited to have the Holy Spirit's help in our lives! We can tell others about God's incredible love for us with God's help. 1st graders learned how we can all have 'one of those days' as they read 'Patty's Awful Day' and 'Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. They are excited to share their knowledge of clocks and read their story to their grandparents on Friday. As they finished addition and subtraction facts to 18, 2 students have already begun multiplication. They shared the plants that they grew from seeds and told the class how much sun, water, and time the plants needed to grow. 2nd graders have been busy this week learning about graphing in math and about Pentecost and Saul's conversion in religion. We found out what a mail order bride was as we started reading the Newberry Award winning book, Sarah, Plain and Tall. In science were studying about birds and now we know why a heavy airplane stays in the air. It's all about air foils and air pressure! We had a great time with our grandparents! 3 rd and 4 th graders are learning how to write outlines. As part of this, they are learning about Roman numerals and parallel form. Each time they practice they get better. They are using outlines as they work on research projects. 3rd graders are researching an interesting Michigan site, and 4th grade students are each researching a state from different regions in the United States. 5th graders are continuing our lessons on the Lord's Supper. We read and discussed The Christian Questions and Answers and why they are important to review as we prepare to receive the Lord's Supper. We are working on identifying compound subjects and verbs in sentences for English and have just finished up a chapter on environmental issues & natural resources in science. The science fair projects are finished and we are sharing what we have learned from them. 6th grade Our middle schoolers (including 6th grade) finished up the science fair project that they have been working on for the last couple months. The projects turned out great and we learned a lot about the scientific process! 8th graders have busy preparing for Grandparents Day. Victoria and Shinaya made our silhouettes to see if grandparents recognize which one is their own grandchild. We just finished and turned in our last book report for the year:)

Summer Givings With the summer months quickly coming upon us, we want to give a friendly reminder to continue to support the Lord’s work throughout the summer months. We realize that many of you go to cottages and take vacations at this time, and that is GREAT! Those are important times for families, and they are blessings as we kick back and relax from the daily grind. But it is important that we do not forget the blessings from the Lord and continue to remain active in worship and support of His ministry. Summer is an easy time to become a little lax in different areas and forget that bills, salaries and expenses continue throughout these months as well. So, we ask that you prayerfully consider your relationship to the Lord, not only as it pertains to the summer’s months but each and every day of your life.
