Have you thought about a career in teaching? Did you

know that you can train to teach at the Long Eaton School and gain a PGCE qualification with the University of Derby through our School Direct programme?

Recruitment starts soon for September 2017. Subjects include Maths, English, PE, RE, Geography, History, Music, Languages, Computing, Food Tech, Resistant Materials, Physics and Business. The placements are based at one of 5 schools within the alliance including The Long Eaton School, Focus School and Ecclesbourne.

PARENT QUESTIONNAIRE

As part of the school's self-evaluation process and commitment to continuous improvement, we are always keen to seek the views of parents and students regarding aspects of school life and their educational experience. We would be grateful for your support in completing a questionnaire so that we can evaluate parent's perceptions of the school's performance. YEAR 7

I would encourage all the students to try out one of our amazing Extra Curricular Clubs in the next few weeks as this is a great way to try new things and make like-minded friends. NATIONAL POETRY DAY

Thursday 6 October was National Poetry Day – an annual event to celebrate all things poetical. Four Year 7 classes took part in a carousel of poetry activities in the Library, and enjoyed creating their own poems and performing favourite ones. This year the theme was Messages, and students wrote their own poetical message, which then was displayed on a ‘Poet Tree’!

TRAVEL TO AND FROM SCHOOL

We are increasingly concerned about the safety of students who come to school along Thoresby Road, at the start and end of the school day as they enter and leave the site. Despite a number of requests for parents to avoid driving into school to drop off and pick up, there is still a significant number of cars coming on to the site unnecessarily at these times, causing congestion whilst several hundred students are cycling or walking through the main gates. If you bring your child to school by car, please ensure that you find somewhere off the school site where it is possible to drop them off and turn around safely. We would also appreciate the support of parents in emphasising to students the need to obey the Highway Code when cycling to and from school, and to encourage strongly that cycle helmets are worn at all times. Thank you.

SPORT MATTERS

U16 Netball Tournament On Wednesday 21st September the following students represented the school for the U16 netball tournament. They were Lucy Shotton, Beth Clutterbuck-Allen, Lauren Stead, Lilly Lymn, Eden Sulley, Mollie Daniels, Hollie Read and Phoebe Cartwright. The girls were fantastic and won 2 games, drew 1 and just lost to Ockbrook by 3 goals, finishing 2nd overall at the Erewash Tournament. They beat Kirk Hallam 8-1, beat Wilsthorpe, drew again St John Houghton 4-4 and lost to Ockbrook 4-7 in the last half.

27th September U14/U16 League match

The following girls represented the school for the U16 netball team and won both their league games again Friesland 15-3 and Wilsthorpe 8-4. They were Lucy Shotton, Beth Clutterbuck-Allen, Lauren Stead, Lilly Lymn, Eden Sulley, Mollie Daniels, and Hollie Read. The girls played fantastically and another staff member even commented on how well they played as a team and how good their passing was during the game. Well done! The U14 girls played excellently considering they had limited practice time. They won against Friesland 6-1 and unfortunately lost against Wilsthorpe 3-1. They tried really hard and developed as a team throughout the games. The team was Kelsie Hughes, Heather Goodall, Maddie Ford, Ella Smith, Olivia Stevenson, Meg Atkinson, Lucy Harriman and Kitty Murphy.
